What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

Paul Pompa, Jr.’s D’Funnybone won the Hutcheson Stakes (G2) on Feb. 20 as the favorite in his 3-year-old debut and will be the horse to beat in the Swale Stakes (G2) Saturday over the same seven-furlong track and distance with regular rider Edgar Prado in the saddle for trainer Rick Dutrow. D’Funny...Read More
Zayat Stable’s Eskendereya, 8 ½ lengths winner of the Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park on Feb. 20, is among 92 3-year-olds nominated for the $750,000 Florida Derby (G1) to be run at 1 1/8 miles on Sat., Mar. 20, and trainer Todd Pletcher has confirmed it is the next log...Read More
A handful of graded events were contested on Feb 20th, and the performance of the day belonged to my new number one Derby contender…Eskendereya. The Todd Pletcher trainee came into the ‘Youth off a sharp allowance score, and the early-pressing sort went off as 3rd betting choice behind Buddy’s Saint...Read More

HUTCHESON   Rick Dutrow (D’Funnybone) – “I’m happy to get him back and run so well off the layoff. He’s our next little Benny the Bull. He’s a lot like him except for his color. We’ll definitely consider the Florida Derby. At this point, I’m not ready to concede that his race in the Breeders’ C...Read More

  • horses · I think people are going to be very surprised how well D'Funnybone stretches out. It's telling that Dutrow is willing to go in the Florida Derby and not opt for the one-turn Gotham or stay in the 7f Swale. Besides, it's not like you need to be a 9f horse to get 9f at Gulfstream when you're out near the lead... · 24 days ago
“And they’re off in the 2010 Kentucky Derby, and it’s Rule going for the lead, followed closely by Super Saver, Eskendereya, and Discreetly Mine. Mission Impazible is right behind, with Interactif, Aikenite, Doubles Partner, and Connermara racing in midpack.”Read More
With nearly two months of the Derby prep trail completed, quite honestly I have not been blown away with the 3-year-old crop as a whole. Maybe that's why the horse I have ranked No. 1 on my list doesn't even have any graded earnings yet. I'm hoping my outlook changes in March.Read More
Rebounded from his flop in the BC to win like a good thing in the Hutcheson at even money. Sat off the pace as they went the half in 45.10, he's not too speed crazy, you would have to think they will stretch him out one more time. Probably not going to get 1 1/4 miles, but maybe it was the synthetic he didn't like at Santa Anita.
Paul Pompa Jr.'s D' Funnybone opened up his 3-year-old season in style, cruising to a professional one-length win as the even-money favorite in the $150,000 Hutcheson Stakes (gr. II) Feb. 20 at Gulfstream Park.Read More
Of the 23 individual betting interests in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager, 10 are running this weekend and six ran last weekend. That means the fabric of this year’s Derby picture is going to be greatly altered by Sunday. It also means that a good number of Future Wager tickets will be virtually wor...Read More
Edward P. Evans’ A Little Warm, impressive winner of the six-furlong Spectacular Bid Stakes on Jan. 9; and Paul Pompa, Jr.’s D’Funnybone, winner of the Saratoga Special (G2) and Futurity (G2) at Belmont Park last year, will be the favorites in the Hutcheson Stakes for brother trainers Anthony and R...Read More
Well, we have our Top 23 Future Wager horses. Of course, old reliable “all others” is the morning line favorite, which every year provides bettors with the worst odds imaginable. But what if you matched the Top 23 with and second-tier group and see which group proves more successful and sends the mo...Read More

Bob Baffert has already begun checking off items on his “Things to do” list for the 2010 Kentucky Derby trail by working Lookin At Lucky in blinkers, with the intention of adding them for the colt’s first start. As consistent a winner as Lookin at Lucky has been, it seems he’s even better with the b...Read More
South Florida has been a winter haven for Kentucky Derby hopefuls for decades. This is not some nostalgic bent. Three of the last four Derby winners, and four of the last seven, have made Florida their winter home, so it's little wonder that racing fans are already asking about which Florida 3-year-...Read More

A few days prior to the Breeders' Cup, I started to write something about how horses with prep races run on dirt had failed so abysmally over Pro-Ride at Santa Anita the year before. I was going to list all of the 2009 dirt-to-Pro-Ride horses, label them throwouts and advise the public that they wou...Read More
It was another brutal Breeders' Cup for New York-based horses. One year after winning just 1 of 14 Breeders' Cup races - Maram in the Juvenile Fillies Turf - the New York-based contingent drew a blank in last week's Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita. Tapitsfly, this year's Juvenile Fillies Turf winner, d...Read More
