Older Comments about Crowded House...

We love to talk about "turn of foot", that sudden power of acceleration that wins big races; and it's usually mentioned in connection with horse racing's superstars, Frankel and Black Caviar and Zenyatta and Zarkava, etc. However, when surfing through YouTube this morning I was reminded that perhaps the most impressive "turn of foot" I've seen from a horse this century wasn't shown by a "superstar", but merely a very honest and solid runner named Crowded House. His devastating win as a 2year old in the 2008 Doncaster Mile (Eng-1) was simply a display of awesomeness while beating a solid field that included Sri Putra, Jukebox Jury, Set Sail etc. (You can watch the replay here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DXf6W0hAkI ). Sadly enough, Crowded House never won a race after that (despite many valiant and close efforts in defeat), and oddly enough he's still listed as Active even though I'm pretty sure he entered stud last spring. What an intriguing stud prospect too, by the great Rainbow Quest out of a Woodman mare whose dam (Chapel of Dreams) is a Northern Dancer half-sister to Storm Cat. Sorry for the rambling history lesson, but I found it all very interesting!

Next time CNAK KEEP YOUR HEAD UP SON Nice ride almost
Crowded House make's his return engagement back in the UK April 24th at Sandown in the Gordon Richards Stakes, a race won by Tartan Bearer in 2009. He comes into the race having run a couple of encouraging place efforts at Meydan during the 2010 Dubai Carnival. Winner of the 2008 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster, Crowded House let loose one of the most amazing bursts of speed to blow by Jukebox Jury in that race that I had seen for quite some time. As if he was just dropped into the race from out of clouds. This really is a talented colt. He didn't run a particularly good Dubai World Cup, but did look very good in the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 2. A race that Allybar got first run, and Crowded House was closing with every stride, but Allybar was able to hang on to win. He also ran a quite game 2nd to Alexandros, a very tough colt, in the Al Rashidiya. I think the Gordon Richards Stakes will be the race that serves to put Crowded House back in the winners circle. He really is the class of 7 listed starters for the race. His only competition should really come from Tranquil Tiger. A colt that just finished 2nd at Newmarket in the Earl of Sefton Stakes on April 15th, and that also won the Winter Derby at Lingfield in March. But I believe that Crowded House will ultimately prove too much for Tranquil Tiger in the race.
