What the Nation is saying about Crimson Knight...

Trainer Gerard Butler sent a string of six horses from his English home base to Arlington Park this summer with eyes on taking down some of the track’s graded stakes races.  It didn’t take long for Butler to accomplish that goal as he saddled Michael Deegan’s Pachattack to a six-length victory...Read More
The Grade III Arlington Matron and the $100,000 Arlington Classic, both longtime fixtures at Chicago’s premier Thoroughbred oval, will share top billing on Saturday.  Stone Farm, John Adger, Oak Crest Farm & Mike Stidham’s Upperline headlines the Arlington Matron and All In Stables’s Willc...Read More
With the meeting moving into its final six weeks, the trainers’ race is basically a two-stable affair, with Jamie Ness holding a 10-race edge over Gerald Bennett. Ness has won or shared the training title the last four seasons, and he tied with Kathleen O’Connell for leading trainer last season.Thro...Read More
The Timely Writer pace was the slowest of all preps to date while the San Felipe was the quickest. Did Mo get enough? Did the San Felipe's hot pace flatter Premier Pegasus? Read More

  • mshutty · Good point, Brian. The Factor and Sway Away are the marquee names in the race but "Gusto", "Alex" and others make this a pretty deep Derby prep field. annmatt, glad you like our site! Keep coming back for more great new content. Please tell a thousand friends about us! :) · 801 days ago ·

There were two races in Florida Saturday that served as preps for the 2011 Kentucky Derby, or at least that is what the connections of the winners are hoping, and the two stakes races provided decidedly different results. In South Florida, it was all about Uncle Mo. The hype machine has been turned ...Read More

  • icyhotboo · Brethren was never able to relax in that race ,natually he was worn out.I don't know about a big comeback but I feel it's to early to write him of a a top contender. His next start should offer very good odds and this horse is better than one bounce shows,if indeed it was a bounce and not the normal for him. · 801 days ago ·

All eyes were on 2-year-old champ Uncle Mo in the Timely Writer (89 BSF) at Gulfstream Park and he did not disappoint in yet another facile victory. The competition was suspect and his lone pace rival Madman Diaries scratched. Mo controlled proceedings throughout after an awkward start. He flew home...Read More
Uncle Mo’s long-awaited 2011 debut has been discussed in detail in this week’s Derby Dozen, but we’ll touch on it further later on. For now, let’s go back to Jan. 17, 1990 at Santa Anita.Bob Baffert was a newcomer to Thoroughbred racing, having been a leading trainer in Quarter-Horse racing. He was ...Read More
Premier Pegasus, who earned $150,000 for his runaway victory in Saturday’s Grade II, $250,000 San Felipe at Santa Anita, jumped from No. 27 to No. 13 on the Kentucky Derby 137 Graded Stakes Earnings List. The list will likely determine the field for the “Run for the Roses” on Saturday, May 7 at Chu...Read More
Sam Davis show finisher Watch Me Go turned the tables on Brethren to win Saturday's Tampa Bay Derby (G3). Brethren sat an outside stalking trip in the Sam Davis but Ramon Dominguez sent him after the lead through reasonable fractions of :23.73, :48.20, and 1:12.60 with Watch Me Go and Crimson Knight...Read More
With Uncle Mo scheduled to run in Gulfstream Park’s Timely Writer Stakes, the Tampa Bay Derby (G-2) is a showdown between the big hoss, Brethren vs. the foes he handily defeated in the Sam F. Davis Stakes plus the usual assortment of maiden/allowance winners. BRETHREN (Distorted Humor – Supercharger...Read More
Todd Pletcher entered Brethren and Uncle Mo in Saturday’s Tampa Bay Derby but the latter is expected to start in the one-mile Timely Writer at Gulfstream Park instead. The Tampa Bay Downs crowd will be disappointed that the 2-year-old champ is running in Hallandale but Brethren is no slouch. The Wi...Read More
Crimson Knight has a miler pedigree that strongly hints that he’ll prefer the lawn. His sire is a Champion Turf miler and his miler damsire is a grandson of Nijinsky. Crimson Knight’s dam was a very durable runner. She made 47 starts, wining only four times, but placing in 12 tries. His second dam placed in a minor stakes event, and that’s it for recent blacktype in his distaff family.
