Eight Belles will be one of those horses that will always be remembered. She will remembered for her huge heart, her great performance in the Derby, her beautiful stature, and, most of all, for all the safety and improvements that she brought her sport since her passing. • Mary Z. · Where does one even begin with a statement like that by you, June? Horse anatomy/physiology? The track condition? Her shoes? I think being astride a horse naked in a tasteful photo shoot(all three goodies covered) is less of a cry for attention than these ???? comments, but maybe that's just me. · 378 days ago ·

The first reported foal by grade I winner Cowboy Cal is a filly born Jan. 2. Dr. Naoya Yoshida, owner of Winchester Farm near Paris, Ky., said the filly is a “very nice, strong filly with good bone and nice hip.”Read More
Cowboy Cal was as game as they come. Really loved watching him gutting it out in the stretch, ususally in turf races where he had been totally compromised by the pace, and seemingly would be done, but often still put up a tough buy hopeless fight before finishing a game second.

Fluke's win in Friday's $300,000 Citation Handicap at Hollywood Park was a milestone that trainer Humberto Ascanio would have gladly postponed indefinitely. By the time Cowboy Cal reached the eighth pole of the Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita on Nov. 7, he was one worn-out 4-year-old colt. Setting a quick pace took its toll, and he faded to finish 10th of 11. It was Cowboy Cal's worst performance of the year, but it did not leave trainer Todd Pletcher...Read More
Friday’s (Day 11) pick six from Hollywood Park features the Grade 1 Citation Handicap. Cowboy Cal is the 5-2 favorite and looms a factor from the outset. If the pace gets hot keep an eye on Monzante. Read More

Trainer Todd Pletcher said all of his horses came out of their Breeders' Cup races at Santa Anita well. The conditioner saddled 10 horses over the two-day championship event, but only nine actually raced. Will the Euros dominate the Mile? Maybe not if Justenuffhumor shows up.Read More
  • arazi · I agree Justenuffhumor is a strong play in the Mile. He's proven over firm turf and although he could be off form, you'd feel silly not to forgive him for one bad race over soft turf and a slow pace. Another possibility is that Justenuff bounced. He ran a lifetime top in the Fourstardave, then ran back to it in the Bernard Baruch and then bounced big time at Keeneland. I haven't looked at the sheets yet, but those guys might say this guy has improved a ton since he started running in December and that it was inevitable he would bounce after the two big efforts. They would also say that he will need more time to come back. However, at 12-1, you have to use him strongly and take a shot it was the soft turf. What'sthescript running late for a piece is also a nice call... as former Miler's usually do better their second try... and he will be a fat price. · 1297 days ago ·

  • Rossington · I don't think Justenuffhumor has enough to win the mile. I think, even though Goldikova is a very talented filly, Delegator is the horse to beat in the mile. My mile tri-fecta is Delegator, Gladiatorus, and Goldikova with Zacinto coming in 4th. jmo. · 1297 days ago ·

Goldikova looks to become the fourth horse to repeat in the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT). Doubters will point to Goldikova's third-place finish in her most recent effort Oct. 3 in the Prix de la Foret (Fr-I), but she was beaten just a half-length in that seven-furlong contest. The 4-year-old Ana...Read More
  • invasor · Agree with Medlocke that Goldikova has a some tough Euro competition to contend with especially Delegator. While the US horses are just a cut below they are better than last year's US entrants · 1301 days ago ·

  • Rossington · Goldikova is an excellent filly by anyone's standards. The way she exploded through the stretch in the 2008 Breeders Cup Mile was impressive. But Goldikova awaits a much tougher field in the 2009 Breeders Cup Mile than she faced a year ago. She may possibly, with a another big run get up into the money, but she'll have to beat Delegator, Gladiatorus, and Zacinto, all her fellow European countrymen to do so. I personally feel that Delegator is the horse to beat in this race. · 1299 days ago ·

  • Rossington · I say now or never for Zenyatta. If she had been entered in the Goodwood Stakes, Gitano Hernando or not, she could have won that race. There really wasn't much there to beat, imo. MTB who hasn't won a race since the Ky. Derby, Colonel John who runs well on the surface but is a bit overmatched in the Classic, Informed and Parading, whom neither have ran to par for some time now. So with Sea the Stars now retired, I say let Zenyatta run against the boys. Quality Road or Summer Bird are neither proven on the surface. Of the American entries, only Einstein may give her trouble. So let her run, so what if she finished 3rd to Rip Van Winkle and Midshipman. No shame in that. · 1317 days ago ·

Cowboy Cal should never leave Santa Anita. In Saturday's $150,000 Oak Tree Mile, Cowboy Cal won his third stakes of the year at this track. In five starts at other tracks this year, he has no wins. • Medlocke · Cowboy Cal's run in the Oak Tree Mile was maybe one of the most impressive performances of all the Grade 1 races on Saturday. Going wire to wire against a field of quality horses with a number of Grade 1 wins there selves. Global Hunter tried making a run and Whatsthescript also coming late, to hold them off in the stretch after leading the whole race, he's got my attention for the Breeder's Cup Sprint or The Dirt Mile, which ever he decides to run in. · 1318 days ago ·
