What the Nation is saying about Court Vision...

With four Grade 1 victories on his resume, Gio Ponti captured dual Eclipse Awards as the top turf male and leading older horse in the country.   After going winless in his first two starts this year, Gio Ponti will seek to reassert his dominance Saturday and defend his title against 10 others ...Read More

  • arazi · This is a really good point. People forget, but Mandella is right. Very few horses come back from Dubai and are competitive in May and June. There have been plenty of flops over the years. I wouldn't toss Gio, but I would definitely spread in the Pick 4 around him. · 58 days ago
  • mshutty · A great bet against for the win spot. Makes the race a better betting proposition · 57 days ago
General Quarters did not fire in his first start on the grass but found soft turf to his liking with a determined victory over Court Vision in the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic on Saturday at Churchill Downs. Just as an off track could affect the outcome of Saturday's Kentucky Derby, forecasted heavy rainfall Saturday may play a role in deciding the Grade 1 Woodford Reserve Turf Classic in the race preceding the Derby. Champion Informed Decision and multiple Grade 1 winner Court Vision are two of many stars among the entrants for five graded stakes on the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) undercard on Saturday at Churchill Downs.Read More
  • medlocke · Informed Decision looked to me like a mare that had a little bit of lay-off rust in losing her first start of 2010 at Keenland in the Vinery Madison Stakes. Informed Decision had been undefeated over synthetic surfaces until her recent 3rd place finish. But she's one of those rare one's that can perform equally well over a conventional dirt surface as well. She won the 09' Human Distaff in the slop at Churchill Downs, if you'll remember. A lot of horses are slow starters after a lay-off. Gio Ponti springs to mind, losing his first start of 2010 at Tampa Bay Downs to Karelian. But came back in his second start to run an amazing Dubai World Cup, finishing 4th, but having to go extremely wide to get that. So it was a very quality run for him. I expect Informed Decision to bounce back with a win on Derby day. IMO. · 93 days ago

Court Vision will try for his third victory from as many starts at Keeneland Race Course on Friday in the $300,000 Maker’s Mark Mile Stakes (G1). Will the Euros dominate the Mile? Maybe not if Justenuffhumor shows up.Read More
  • arazi · I agree Justenuffhumor is a strong play in the Mile. He's proven over firm turf and although he could be off form, you'd feel silly not to forgive him for one bad race over soft turf and a slow pace. Another possibility is that Justenuff bounced. He ran a lifetime top in the Fourstardave, then ran back to it in the Bernard Baruch and then bounced big time at Keeneland. I haven't looked at the sheets yet, but those guys might say this guy has improved a ton since he started running in December and that it was inevitable he would bounce after the two big efforts. They would also say that he will need more time to come back. However, at 12-1, you have to use him strongly and take a shot it was the soft turf. What'sthescript running late for a piece is also a nice call... as former Miler's usually do better their second try... and he will be a fat price. · 271 days ago
  • Rossington · I don't think Justenuffhumor has enough to win the mile. I think, even though Goldikova is a very talented filly, Delegator is the horse to beat in the mile. My mile tri-fecta is Delegator, Gladiatorus, and Goldikova with Zacinto coming in 4th. jmo. · 271 days ago
Goldikova looks to become the fourth horse to repeat in the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT). Doubters will point to Goldikova's third-place finish in her most recent effort Oct. 3 in the Prix de la Foret (Fr-I), but she was beaten just a half-length in that seven-furlong contest. The 4-year-old Ana...Read More
  • invasor · Agree with Medlocke that Goldikova has a some tough Euro competition to contend with especially Delegator. While the US horses are just a cut below they are better than last year's US entrants · 275 days ago
  • Rossington · Goldikova is an excellent filly by anyone's standards. The way she exploded through the stretch in the 2008 Breeders Cup Mile was impressive. But Goldikova awaits a much tougher field in the 2009 Breeders Cup Mile than she faced a year ago. She may possibly, with a another big run get up into the money, but she'll have to beat Delegator, Gladiatorus, and Zacinto, all her fellow European countrymen to do so. I personally feel that Delegator is the horse to beat in this race. · 274 days ago

IEAH Stables President Mike Iavarone woke up Monday morning with a flu bug, but nothing could bring him down following the tremendous performance of his horses this past weekend. • Rossington · I say now or never for Zenyatta. If she had been entered in the Goodwood Stakes, Gitano Hernando or not, she could have won that race. There really wasn't much there to beat, imo. MTB who hasn't won a race since the Ky. Derby, Colonel John who runs well on the surface but is a bit overmatched in the Classic, Informed and Parading, whom neither have ran to par for some time now. So with Sea the Stars now retired, I say let Zenyatta run against the boys. Quality Road or Summer Bird are neither proven on the surface. Of the American entries, only Einstein may give her trouble. So let her run, so what if she finished 3rd to Rip Van Winkle and Midshipman. No shame in that. · 291 days ago
