Zayat Stable’s 3-year-old Eskendereya worked an easy five furlongs in 1:02 2/5 Sunday morning at Palm Meadows as he is kept on edge for next Saturday’s $750,000 Florida Derby (G1) at Gulfstream Park, leading a team of a dozen stakes runners on the work tab from trainer Todd Pletcher’s arsenal of ta...Read More
CANADIAN TURF HANDICAP   Bill Mott (Courageous Cat) – “We were really excited with him coming back as well as he’s been training for the last month, although you are always a little concerned about their first race back. The race developed about the way we expected, although I thought the...Read More
Pam and Martin Wygod's homebred COURAGEOUS CAT (Storm Cat) kicked off his four-year-old season with a victory in Saturday's $150,000 Canadian Turf S. (G3), but it didn't come easy. After closely stalking wicked early splits of :23 1/5, :43 4/5 and 1:08 2/5, the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1) runner-up disp...Read More
Rahy's Attorney, winner of the G1 Woodbine Mile in 2008, takes on a tough field of turf veterans on Saturday at Gulfstream Park. Pam and Marty Wygod’s 4-year-old Kentucky homebred colt Courageous Cat was last seen finishing second to international champion filly Goldikova in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1) at Santa Anita on Nov. 7, and comes out for another campaign as the horse to beat in the Canadian Turf Stakes wit...Read More
“With the close of each racing year comes the interesting problem of the best horse…In past years this was much easier than it is in the present. Today commercialism cuts an important figure, crowding old-fashioned ‘sportsmanship’ to the wall. Horses are no longer raced purely as ‘sport’ much as we ...Read More
It was another brutal Breeders' Cup for New York-based horses. One year after winning just 1 of 14 Breeders' Cup races - Maram in the Juvenile Fillies Turf - the New York-based contingent drew a blank in last week's Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita. Tapitsfly, this year's Juvenile Fillies Turf winner, d...Read More
Zenyatta, who will take on the boys in Saturday's Classic, made her first local appearance shortly before 7:00 a.m. Galloped an easy mile and visited the paddock. Looks great physically although she doesn't have the prettiest way of going when she gallops. Read More
Courageous Cat, a 3-year-old graded stakes winner, delightfully fooled jockey Garrett Gomez during a five-furlong turf workout at Santa Anita on Monday.Just five days before the Breeders' Cup Mile here, Courageous Cat worked in 1:01, much quicker of a time than Gomez expected, considering the colt w...Read More
Will the Euros dominate the Mile? Maybe not if Justenuffhumor shows up.Read More
  • arazi · I agree Justenuffhumor is a strong play in the Mile. He's proven over firm turf and although he could be off form, you'd feel silly not to forgive him for one bad race over soft turf and a slow pace. Another possibility is that Justenuff bounced. He ran a lifetime top in the Fourstardave, then ran back to it in the Bernard Baruch and then bounced big time at Keeneland. I haven't looked at the sheets yet, but those guys might say this guy has improved a ton since he started running in December and that it was inevitable he would bounce after the two big efforts. They would also say that he will need more time to come back. However, at 12-1, you have to use him strongly and take a shot it was the soft turf. What'sthescript running late for a piece is also a nice call... as former Miler's usually do better their second try... and he will be a fat price. · 135 days ago
  • Rossington · I don't think Justenuffhumor has enough to win the mile. I think, even though Goldikova is a very talented filly, Delegator is the horse to beat in the mile. My mile tri-fecta is Delegator, Gladiatorus, and Goldikova with Zacinto coming in 4th. jmo. · 135 days ago
Goldikova looks to become the fourth horse to repeat in the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT). Doubters will point to Goldikova's third-place finish in her most recent effort Oct. 3 in the Prix de la Foret (Fr-I), but she was beaten just a half-length in that seven-furlong contest. The 4-year-old Ana...Read More
  • invasor · Agree with Medlocke that Goldikova has a some tough Euro competition to contend with especially Delegator. While the US horses are just a cut below they are better than last year's US entrants · 139 days ago
  • Rossington · Goldikova is an excellent filly by anyone's standards. The way she exploded through the stretch in the 2008 Breeders Cup Mile was impressive. But Goldikova awaits a much tougher field in the 2009 Breeders Cup Mile than she faced a year ago. She may possibly, with a another big run get up into the money, but she'll have to beat Delegator, Gladiatorus, and Zacinto, all her fellow European countrymen to do so. I personally feel that Delegator is the horse to beat in this race. · 138 days ago
From his maiden victory here in June to his eye-catching victory in the Grade 2 Hall of Fame Stakes at Saratoga in August, Courageous Cat has the look of a turf star in the making. Bill Mott has a late-blooming turf horse in Courageous Cat ($6.30), who followed up a good-figure maiden win at seven furlongs with a score in the A Gift overnight stakes in 1:39.75, just a couple ticks off the inner course record for 1 1/16 miles. Read More
