What the Nation is saying about Courageous Cat...

OK, so who’s the Eclipse Award-winning trainer this year? The usual names  – Baffert, Asmussen, Pletcher, or Mott, all of whom had terrific years? Or perhaps Graham Motion or Dale Romans, who both had career years and won classics? Before deciding, voters should pay close attention to Aidan O’B...Read More
A year after the Life At Ten Fiasco, the Churchill Downs stewards, more so than anyone else, needed a good couple of days at the Breeders' Cup to redeem themselves and to restore the public's confidence in them. It didn't happen. The one time they were called upon to make a decision they got the cal...Read More

  • dsparrowd · Last Year on the Friday I had the triactor until the stewards took my horse down. I believe it was the ist time for that. How would you feel if your had Court Vision,Turallure, Gio Ponte & Mr.Commons in a tri box or heavens forbid in a super box. From what I saw Goldikova should have been taken down and put behind Courageous Cat who she obviously interfered with and finished last. With the 7-5 favorite out of the picture just try to imagine what the tri would have paid? how much for the super? Are we talking $ 500,000. Its absolutely criminal that this horse was not placed last. Thank God I didn't have the ticket I just mentioned above. The stewards should be fired! · 190 days ago ·

  • GypsyRose · Ok so I have a question about this. When I originally saw the race and she made that move I immediately thought oh yes she has to be taken down. I was sad cause on her last race that's not a way you want this fabulous horse to go out. But my question is, it looked like Courageous Cat was fading out of contention, does anyone think that has anything to do with the call? Because it wouldn't have made a difference because he was fading and wasn't going to win? I'm just asking, I'm not a genius at this horse racing stuff :) I'm just glad everyone emerged okay and unharmed. · 186 days ago ·

  • Cigar16 · The debacle that occured on Thursday from the fallout of CD's decision to not open the turf course for training has become a situation that I now find to be just as humorous (somebody please take Michael Stoute's deplorable trackside rant and make a comical YouTube video of it!) as it is shameful! Shameful for both entities. Despite CD's effort to make trainers aware by broadcasting on several occasions via the PA system the possibility of grass course training closure due to a threat of precipitation, a mess still ensued. WHY, did CD close the course a nanosecond before the scheduled opening? HELLO? I get that it was for legit reasons, but making that decision without facilitating your freaking public/horsemen relations department etc in preemptive coordination with the Euro's was appalling. This is not a normal event. Sorry, but CD definitely dropped that ball! But on the flip side is who the hell does John Gosden, and the most obnoxious, self entitled jackass Michael Stoute think they are in that they feel they can remedy their inconvenience by doing as they please in disregarding the closure, attempting to DISMANTLE the railing, and helping themselves to the course as if they were at home and having a backyard BBQ??? OMG! I was embarrassed for them! We can only hope that this will be at the very least a learning experience for the future.. All of that being said, and being one of the last people to look the other way as protocol is not adhered to, I do not speak lightly when I say that in the grand scheme of things, 10, 20, or a 100 years from now as an American racing fan I DO NOT WANT the unpleasant stigma that would have been ours FOREVER had the stewards DQ'ed Goldikova to LAST, therefore forever tarnishing her image. I am so glad the stewards proved diplomatic, thought of the consequences, and made the RIGHT DECISION! · 192 days ago ·

  • likin sparks · Hey, what better way to entice more foreign horses to complete in the BC races, no harm nor foul for bumping. Also CD should have had all the PR and grounds crew out after the rain subsided drying the track off with hair dryers it wasn't good enough! · 192 days ago ·

A few random thoughts about the BC from the last 48 hours of being glued to the TV and interweb screens.....Handle was down this year by about 5%, as was attendance. Unlike last year, when Zenyatta was the most popular horse in the sport (by a football field), there was simply not the same buzz. I g...Read More

  • railbird33 · The day before, a horse got DQ for "bumping " another horse. Goldikova MADE a hole by altering the run of two horses down the stretch, her not being taken down was 100% because it was final race. Any other day,,,,any other track- DQ. Jerry Bailey is in the booth now, if he had been ON- COURAGEOUS CAT, do you think he would be that gracious????? · 192 days ago ·

  • mshutty · Court Vision has won only one race this year and it was the 2010 edition of the Woodbine Mile. He's another year older and other horses are improving at the right time. I like the Side Glance but Courageous Cat appears to be the one to beat. Turallure and Right One deserve some consideration underneath or even as possible upsetters for the win · 242 days ago ·

Fifteen years ago, Skip Away won the last edition of the Woodbine Million, ushering in a new September event at Woodbine. Was the switch to the Woodbine Mile an evolution or a devolution from its long-lost predecessor? Read More
  • zatt · I loved the old Molson Million, Prized, Izvestia, Peteski, Dramatic Gold, and of course Skip Away, but the Woodbine Mile has also been an excellent race, and fits in with Woodbine's turf emphasis in the fall. Having said that, this year's field does look a bit weaker than usual. · 244 days ago ·

  • medlocke · @act7, Canford Cliffs is retired now, and Henry Cecil's already said that Frankel won't be at this year's Breeders Cup. Goldikova is clearly at the very least a half step slower herself this year than she was in 2010. But of the American horses likely for the BC Mile, I see Caracortado as the one American horse with enough speed on the turf that could challenge her? But in all honesty, I think the colt that just won the G1 Prix Du Moulin in France, Excelebration, may be the only one fast enough to legitimately beat Goldikova. JMO. · 248 days ago ·
