What the Nation is saying about Cost Of Freedom...

If racing thinks it can solve it's problems by starting petty fights over Social Media, it has another thing coming.Read More

If you feel strongly enough about something, speak your mind, bring it to attention. Just do it the right way. Do what is best for everyone, not just yourself and your ego. • buds · 1) The court fees would be more than the horse is worth. 2) FYI. In America you are only innocent until proven guilty in a crime case, not civil. Example, A boss can fire you (Guilty) with no pay because he "thinks" your not an honest employee. Now if you want your job back you have to "prove" you are innocent in court. · 96 days ago ·

Does anyone know what is going on here? I read some troubling tweets by Ray Paulick that the money for this horse's retirement may have been misappropriated.

  • buckpasser · Cocoa. According to the tweets, $4,000 was suddenly located when this matter went public. I do think Calloghan commingled his personal funds and the donations for Cost of Freedom which is a red flag here. The issue boils down to was this commingling accidental I.e. He had several donations in check made out to him that needed to be deposited and then sent out to Malone. · 104 days ago ·

  • buckpasser · Or did he take advantage of this commingling to dip his fingers in the till. As Ray Paulick pointed out pictures of Carl partying in Vegas at this time were suddenly removed from his Facebook page when the criticism about his handling if the donations came out. · 104 days ago ·

  • EP Taylor · Fair enough Goblin. But I didn't mention Steve Assmussen. I couldn't remember who so I just put the Surname. I was thinking either Cash, or Keith. The sad part was all the mares foaled and then some were covered again and sold at auction. Sad. · 110 days ago ·

  • goblin · EP, Much of the focus with this Cost of Freedom discussion has/had been on trainers and their responsibilities. (As above) As I said, I wanted to clarify that Steve A. wasn't involved with Keith's actions in this instance. The mares were all sold to responsible owners after the facts became known. Donna Keen of RMR stepped in, among others, and I believe even the breeder of one mare attempted to get her back. Hopefully, Keith A. won't be doing this again. · 110 days ago ·
