EP Taylor has started a trend. Here's six year old Woody Stephens honing his training skills early: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=664427356941358&set=a.189145141136251.61389.189123901138375&type=1&permPage=1 Horse of the Year Conquistador Cielo, with Laffit Pinkay, Jr., was Woody's first of five in a row Belmont winners. The Champion 3 Year Old Colt won the Met Mile just 6 days earlier with Eddie Maple aboard, setting a track record against older horses by 7 lengths. Maple had a spill and broke a rib the day before the Belmont, knocking him out of the race. He won three years later on Creme Fraiche.

  • travel_vic · In the late 40's he and with another associate, burned up the place WAGERING. Quote: Stephens also was a firm believer in speed. He first came to New York in 1944 at the behest of owner/horseplayer Julie Fink, who offered him $1,000 a month to be his trainer. In a 27-month span, the “Speed Boys” won 157 races before a legal battle with The Jockey Club ended the partnership. http://www.belmontstakes.com/history/woodystephensstreak.aspx · 589 days ago
