What the Nation is saying about Conquistador Cielo...

I have just finished reading the book Bred to Run, by Mike Helm. It is about Mike’s account of a one-week visit to Claiborne Farm in 1992. In a 1:1 interview with Seth Hancock, Helm indirectly asked, why is there no stamina in US bloodstock anymore? Seth had some very interesting theories, one of wh...Read More

  • cugel the clever · Simple law of supply and demand. Most of the big-money and big-prestige races are at 10 furlongs or less. The biggest races on the calendar for older horses and late-year 3yo races should be at 12 furlongs or more. That would certainly bring stamina back into the breeding and training philosophy of the sport. · 5 days ago ·

  • cugel the clever · A good start would be to move the Pacific Classic, Santa Anita Handicap, Breeders Cup Classic, and Travers to 12 furlongs; and to make the BC Marathon one of the premier races with a purse of at least 2 million dollars instead of its current status as a freak show novelty race which attracts grade 3 stakes winners and optional claimers. · 5 days ago ·

Any fan of horse racing knows the incredible highs and lows that are part of loving this sport. As another fall prepares to welcome race fans to Belmont Park, I do what I do every year. I reminisce about those golden years of racing, and think about many of those unforgettable days at the racetrack....Read More

  • MaidenKing · As a teen-ager, began playing the races at Suffolk Downs in the early 1980's. Timely Writer was the horse that put our track on the map at the time and everybody at the East Boston oval was rooting for him whenever he ran and we were crushed when he died on the track. Great horse, tragic ending. · 141 days ago ·

  • LAZMANNICK · I somehow had a feeling that this would be your favorite. This one was always mine. What a closing effort from Runaway Groom, Canada's best three year old who would shine by upsetting America's best three year olds. He was second in the Queen’s Plate before winning the lengthily Prince of Wales and then the Breeders Stakes on turf, the 2nd and 3rd jewels in the Canadian Triple Crown. He came so close to being a great trivia question, what TC winner defeated the winners of three TC races in one race. I enjoy your nostalgic visits back to the good old days. · 166 days ago ·

Horses like Shackleford, Mucho Macho Man, and Santiva, figure to be the ones to benefit from the track condition the most. Shackleford is the controlling speed, and bred to like an off track. Dale Romans has to be tickled pink with the weather development. Meanwhile, Mucho Macho Man and Santiva migh...Read More

  • blooy · i took the leaders i know people like closers in the belmont, but i go the other way. ruler on ice and stay thirsty were both very close to shackleford that race. i bet wins on shackleford, stay thirsty and ruler on ice. got my money back on shackleford flating out and ended up a head. great race and it seems to always be someone upseting the belmont many times. congrats to those who had the tri or super! my problem is i just bet straight money usually win or across the board. · 242 days ago ·
