One of the best new york breds of all time. His win in the 2005 whitney was one of the best races i've ever seen in person. a legend
  • LAZMANNICK · I agree. One of the best NY Breds ever and possibly one of the most under rated horses in recent memory. That 2005 Whitney was special because he defeated Saint Liam, who would win HOY that year, and in doing it he received a 123 Beyer, his second successive 120 plus Beyer (the race before he won an allowance race by 16 lengths and earned a 121). Even more remarkable about Commentator was his coming back and winning the Whitney in 2008, three years later, and scoring a 120 Beyer. Any horse that would receive three 120 plus Beyers in its career today would be talked about a lot more than Commentator was talked about back in his day. · 1118 days ago
Commentator was retired today following his game third place finish in the Whitney at the ripe old age of 8 yesterday.
I don't care if he wins the Whitney or not, the old guy's great in my book. Just when you think it's time to keep him in the barn, he pulls another rabbit out of his hat and wins again. All the best to this old war horse. He's a proven veteran and a proven champion.
