Indian Charlie Rises to the Top
Until 2010, Indian Charlie ’s rise to the upper reaches of the commercial sire ranks was marked by the quality of his fillies. His runners were headed by champion 2-year-old filly and champion sprinter Indian Blessing; champion older mare Fleet Indian; and the grade I-winning Pampered Princess. That...

Laz, I agree he is very honest and full of heart. I love how TVG interviewed Mr. Barber and talked to Mr. Miller, both of whom were clearly thrilled he won this. I hope he goes up to Golden Gate, he does his best running there.

Laz, CttT is owned by a group of men who really like to have fun. He has done his best at Golden Gate and Hollywood, both of which are synthetic tracks, but I am guessing that they will continue to race him in sprint stakes. He is a winner on turf, dirt, tapeta, pro-ride and all-weather so surface takes a back seat.

I can see him pointing towards the Sprint and probably being a strong factor at some point in the race. the Sprint might just be ultra tough this year, but at least we knwo that CTTT will try as hard as he can.

Laz, I have been listing the sprint as a year end goal for three years now, as shown on the HRN stakes tracker, I don't know if he can win but he is a favorite of mine and I will be cheering for him just like I do every time he comes out to run. The great thing is he has a lot of miles left on him, with only one injury that hasn't reappeared in the best of 31 starts. He is a game horse and it will be interesting to see how he progresses

Buckpasser, I sure am thrilled. I have been doing research on Stagehand and on the DRF archives I see several columns with numbers that represent things I am unable to understand. I am wondering if you could, and would please explain to me what the column is that is to the right of the track conditions, the column to the right of the weight, the column to the right of the type of race and finally the column to the right of the last finisher. Also, confirmation that the column to the left of the jockey is fnishing position and not position in the stretch would help, an example of the old form can be found here: http://athena.uky.edu/cgi/t/text/pageviewer-idx?c=drf1930s;cc=drf1930s;g=drf;xc=1;q1=stagehand;rgn=full%20text;idno=drf1938101501;didno=drf1938101501;view=pdf;seq=16;node=drf1938101501%3A16;passterms=1 . Cocoa, the small number to the right of the jockey denotes post position, and the first number in the call position line (without lengths behind leader or lengths in front) is position after the start.

Comma to the Top
This one in his last 10 starts: 3 for 3 in listed stakes. 2 for 4 in G3 stakes. 0 for 3 in G2 stakes. It is so obvious he is comfortable in G3 competition. He is a solid horse and the funny thing is, his pace line comes up relevent to E2/LP. For exmplae, 104/96 (Daytona) compared to 113/88 (San Carlos).. If he can get easy pace in G2, he could win, but he would need a 95 E1 and no quality late speed (Sahara Sky has something to say). His pace lines, patterns, and past performances speak for themselves: He is a CLASSY, SOLID, and CONSISTENT G3 gelding. I love how he runs his heart out everytime. In the Los Angeles Handicap, he has the best early speed. Fast Bullet only contains E1 within the range of 90-93. Comma to the Top usually has 98-99, but he'll slow down. Fast Bullet contains something like a 97 E2 average, while Comma to the Top averages a 106. The LATE pace is sufficent, Fast Bullet will close 102+, while Comma to the Top generally closes in 88-92. This will be the case: Will Martin Garcia rush Fast Bullet and do the dirty work (press) the alone on the lead Comma to the Top? Or will he sit back and allow Comma to the Top to get away with a 92 E1 (imo, the race would be over)... IF he sits backk, Fast Bullet WILL come with a late run, but Comma to the Top could reserve more energy and kick home in 97. This race will come down to how the jockeys play it out. Knowing Martin Garcia and his previous rides on Fast Bullet, my guess is he will put him within a 1/2 length of Cooma to the Top and Edwin will control how fast he wants CTTT to go. This is going to be one damn exciting race between CTTT and Fast Bullet. The pace lines are so damn difficult to comprehend. Why? Because we have NO IDEA how the jockeys will run. This is a FANTASTIC example fo how jockeys matter in races. The pace matters WAY more, but when the pace is shifting either way; the jockeys can decide the final outcome. If I were Martin Garcia, I'd stick with CTTT the entire way. I know that if he sits back, CTTT can: A) get away with a 92 E1 and B) he can open up 2 lengths on the far turn. If you look at his past performances, he does well when he gets an easier pace and opens 2 1/2 lengths around the turn... If I were Garcia, I'd put Fast Bullet right there (I know it will hurt his late pace) and hope it sticks. You could let CTTT open up, but you'd have to trust Fast Bullet to be able to catch him. Edwin is in a much easier spot here. He can do whatever CTTT and Martin (also) tell him and dare him to. Just my two cents on this brilliant racehorse and this very challenging to handicap race.

So, bottom line, I find Comma to the Top at a SLIGHT advantage. His jockey has an easier decision and he fits the track profile... One thing I didn't mention is if a different horse, other than Fast Bullet, does the dirty work on CTTT. Perhaps the other Baffert horse, Apriority, could do the dirty work as a rabbit, however he has similar E1 as Fast Bullet... This race is going to be thrilling to handicap and watch.

Sullivan. I believe you'd tend to agree, this gelding has a fighting heart. Not many horses, unless they are simply faster than him (pace wise), will beat him by breathing down his neck. Mike Smith often likes to open up his horses at the top of the stretch, so I think he'd be a good fit for Comma to the Top. Mike Smith could let him open up 4 lengths at the top of the stretch and see if anyone can catch him. This is how I use pace lines, jockeys, visualazation, set up, etc to determine my picks. This horse, for whatever reason, seems to click with Corey, so he's a nice fit. I've always found Edwin a solid jockey for Comma to the Top. Edwin is very good at controlling the front end; which I have noted through many sample races and observing riding tactics. Fast Bullet is the better horse. He has better pace; which is provable. However, Comma to the Top has the superior set up.

If there were two other 98 E1's to press Comma to the Top, Jmac, Fast Bullet would be an easy pick. However, Martin Garcia has a tough decision to make; he better know his horse. Comma to the Top has a superb set up here.. He can't get hurt, only Fast Bullet can. If Fast Bullet presses him, CTTT will run his normal E1. He'll benefit because Fast Bullet's LP will drop accordingly. If Fast Bullet sits back, than Comma to the Top can lower his E1 and E2, which will raise his LP accordingly, which will benefit him. You can't give Fast Bullet this race.. Fast Bullet is the better horse, by far, his pace is much faster. You really, I apologize for saying this, must work on your handicapping. HANDING this race to Fast Bullet is ridiculous. The post parade (who looks like they're ready to run? these are two closely matched horses, b/c of the circumstances, it could be a deciding factor), the set up, what Martin does, the break, and much more will play a role who will win.

Amino, what? You know what I mean. You've seen it before. Mike likes to open his horses up at the far turn/top of the stretch and try to run away. Should I list some that you'll remember, even thoug it has nothing to do with the 1000s of samples I have observed? Perhaps him opening up Bodemeister in 2012 Kentucky Derby's stretch run? As opposed to Ferdinand. He would stop trying if he hit the front to soon. The jockey knew this and moved him at the right time...

Sullivan's biased viewpoints clouds his judegement over and over again.. It sure does explain his handicapping. Learn about pace and looks at these races objectively. Comma to the Top, in my opinion, will win. But he won't win opening up. Depending on how the front end portrays (as previously mentioned) will decide how much Comma tot he Top and Fast Bullet ave in the end. -smh-.. What is it, the fifth time you've picked CttT in a row? -smh-.

This is the last race in that BH contest, so I finally settled on Majestic City for the contest. Almost used Camp Victory. Had to try to go for the higher odds, but still one I thought has a chance to place. Of course GL to cocoa's CTTT.

Thanks. I'm way behind in points. Maybe should have gone with "safer" picks for Saturday's races. Then, again, a big longshot can put someone far ahead. Excuse: distracted and exhausted :) But, it is fun. Good thing they let amateurs like me play.

As per usual? He's never romped. He's a G3 horse that runs well with OK pace pressure. You must learn to throw emotions away when you handicap and objectively look at a horse. You say Comma to the Top is a G1 horse; yet EVERY SINGLE pace line and EVERY SINGLE past performances show he is G3. He will probably romp this race only because it has ALLOWANCE level pace pressure. Odds will not be worth a wager.

Yet, according to you, your a "superior handicapper"... LMAO. If only you could pick 1/2 the winners I do... I lost any respect for you once you called Man o' War a deep closer (and yes, I can quote it)

He has never romped? I'm not putting down cash, just rooting for my boy. You can't just let me do that? You thought I care about how good I am at handicapping? I just pick my favorites... your maturity level is astounding. You cannot stop bragging about your prowess as a bettor which quite honestly no one cares about. And I never, not one called him a deep closer. It was suggested he was a front runner only and I made the point he came from off the pace several times. You've had your share of stupid moments but unlike you I have better things to do than try to embarrass you. I'm sure your wife appreciates your chest thumping but you just sound stuck up to me. I can throw away emotions quite efficiently as I NEVER bet on favorites, I don't bet on Mylute, Adahai, Fonzy, Comma to the Top, I had a futures bet on Mylute and that is before I fell in love with him. I don't give a shit if you think he is a G3 horse, he quite clearly won G1s and given the chance will do it again.

" Actually, tv, you're wrong. Man o war was a deep closer his two year old year, since he could not break fast" -Cocoa2. Man o' War was a PRESSER in his two year old season; in his three year old season he was always on the lead.

rafi, sorry to dispute, but MOW was never a deep closer, especially at two. At two the furthest back he ever was was 1 1/2 lengths. At three he wired the field in every one of his races.

I have since contacted t_v with the charts and we have discussed how I did not mean to say deep. I never, not once, defended him being a deep closer. Nice job though, I love it when you try to embarrass me using threads 100+ days old and quoting only specific things I have said.

@LAZ. I know he wasn't. I qas quoting Cocoa (Sullivan) saying he was a deep closer... MOW was a presser in his two year old year and a Front runner in his three year old year... Look under the thread ofMan o' War with TBDF's comment and you'll see all the quotes and Cocoa's uninformed comments.

I simply said I lost all respect for you when you called MOW a deep closer. That was the point. I lost all respect for you when you consistently show ignorance yet think you know lot oabout this sport; when you know next to nothing. YOUR the one the=at dragged out this thread talking about Man o' Wr. @LAZ. I never called him a deep closer; I was quoting Cocoa.

"The" and "this" both refer to this thread, it's not reading comprehension but the english language that you have trouble with. I didn't drag it out, defending yourself against an attack isn't dragging it out. If you had stopped attacking I would've stopped defending which is exactly what happened.

We all kknew he would win after the scratch. A group and I have been betting together and discussing races... At 3-5 we went heavy (as a group) $300 to win.. Of course, though, I only was responsible for $100.. Solid G3 horse against easy pace pressure= Win.

Kait. I'd like to apologize about FLrailbird's comment yesterday. He is my friend in "real life" and is a pro. He gets annoyed at not just you, but me, and everyone else. He reminds me of travel_vic, in a way. I;d like to apologize for his comments and tell him to lighten up on you, considering you're one of my fave posters on this site :).
