What the Nation is saying about Color Me Blue...

As we near the end of the Hawthorne spring meet, you didn’t think it would just go quietly did you? Heck no! Intermixed throughout Saturday’s great card are 6 $125,000 stakes races featuring the best of the best of Illinois-bred runners. Now in the spirit of NFL draft weekend, let’s take a look at t...Read More

Quietly, one of the best performances on an excellent Saturday of racing took place in Oaklawn Park’s Essex Handicap. On paper the race looked like it would be Pin Oak Stable’s Alternation to lose. Although 2011 became largely a season of unfulfilled potential for the attractive son of Distorted Hum...Read More
  • Winplacsho · It's nice to see Alternation back, it seemed like he fell off the map after that subpar effort in the Jim Dandy. I agree that this horse is similar to Blame in a couple of ways: running style, under the radar by being midwest based & no triple crown starts as a 3 year old. · 109 days ago ·

Calvin “Bo Bo” Borel just couldn’t resist the lure of budding three year-olds at Oaklawn Park, where he picked up the mount on Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver in 2010. His agent Jerry Hissam recently announced that the 45 year-old Cajun jockey with the famous ear to ear grin will be moving his tac...Read More
  • zatt · Borel at Oaklawn is a good thing ... Alternation is the class, and should have a good year, but today, and especially if the track is sloppy, may be a vulnerable favorite. · 112 days ago ·

For as long as I have been a blogger representing Chicago, I have been adamant about the value and quality of racing that Chicago has to offer. Well, apparently I haven't been the only person thinking this very thing. And sure, I may be biased a bit, but I am sincere when I ask that you give some re...Read More

  • christysontheweb · Well, for me no question...in the field of next race track I've never been to before visit, there is a very chalky fave...Arlington Park!!! If I have to (unfortunately) pick just one that's it! Also CDH I think that you are right about people that knock Chi racing...I think they have a preconceived notion about it but nothing to base it on. Once they went and spent any time there (or just educated themselves on it) at all they'd be singing a whole new tune. Maybe go a lil something like....'We're in the moneyyyy....we're in the moneyyyyy!!!' Another great one from you, as always! · 126 days ago ·

Making one full trip around the Arlington Park oval this Saturday are the entrants of the 79th Washington Park Handicap. Workin for Hops and General Quarters are two of the bigger names entering the event which has been dominated by Mike Stidham’s Gran Estreno each of the last two years. Hopefully o...Read More

  • tonykelso · I would consider General Quarters bouncing back his allowance dirt race at CD was very good. The Firecracker is a tough race, I don't think the distance of one mile against top horses really fit him.. Demand value. · 267 days ago ·

  • RobertPotter · If Working For Hops reproduces his Hanshin performance,he most likely wins. If not, the steadily improving Illinois bred-Color Me Blue- can win this running of the Washington Park Hcp. · 267 days ago ·

A troika of accomplished stakes winners – Thomas McCarthy’s General Quarters, Estrorace LLC’s Workin for Hops and Lothenbach Stables’ Mister Marti Gras – share top starting impost of 119 pounds for Saturday’s Washington Park Handicap.  The Grade III race carries a $100,000 purse and will be run...Read More
