His progeny looks good so far.
  • rafirox · Always will love this guy. He was my derby horse in 2008. He has a wonderful pedigree, his progeny are looking good so far. Hopefully this multiple G1 winner's progeny are successful on the track. · 1473 days ago

  • shadowno · The final quarter was covered in 26.03 in the 08 Travers enroute to a 2:03.20 final time. The only time he raced in New York. Maybe you have Colonel John confused with another horse ? · 1724 days ago
  • travel_vic · correcto, it was Lawyer Ron...the two have the same ring to them. · 1724 days ago
Have always liked Colonel John but was not expecting such an impressive turf effort in the Wickerr. Tracked a strong pace and powered home. Connections certainly have options with the versatile stakes winner on dirt, turf, and synthetic. Still thinking they go in the Pacific Classic.
I didn't see it coming, but I have to admit, Colonel John ran pretty huge in the Wickerr. Would have to say that was one of the better (best?) races of his career... he may have a big future on turf!
The turf experiment worked out well. Wonder what's next after that performance...another try on the turf or as mdracing69 suggested maybe the Pacific Classic. Wherever he ends up...Colonel John will no doubt be a major contender.
Nice to see Colonel John returning to action in the Wickerr Handicap at Del Mar. He is probably using the flat mile restricted turf event as a prep for races such as the Pacific Classic.
My 2008 Kentucky Derby top Colonel John gave me a bit of redemption in Travers. Was an okay 6th of 11 in 2008 BC Classic. Pulled a muscle after disappointing 4th in Malibu, and he was forced to miss Strub Stakes. Came down with temperature and scratched out of the Big Cap.
