El Kabong · You never know until they break what pole position is good because you never know who is going to cause trouble by veering in or out. I can remember back watching the post draw of 2009. The connections of Friesan Fire, my choice, had the opportunity to pick PP 6 or 9. I was hoping for 9, they chose 6. No big deal until the gates opened and ironically it was the horse in gate 9, Join in the Dance, who veered in pushing MTB and Papa Clem into Friesan Fire who sustain injuries from this event that damaged not only his Derby, but his career. It should have been a good post but it turned out to be his demise. You just can't tell where the trouble will start or end in this big of a field but getting away clean or dropping back clean are much preferred over bouncing with the out of controlled starters. Soldat's draw was a tough break as was Mo's. Shackleford is to their inside so the best they can hope for is that shack breaks really well or really bad so that they can cut across the field and hope to sit behind CTT and POF going into the first turn. Had Shackleford drawn between 9-11 that would have helped but they won't be muscling Shack to move over unless shack wants too. He's a tank. Maybe he'll break well become a hassle for the inside speed who might get caught up into a shoving match as all three try to assert themselves the leader. Anyway I'm not as thrilled for 17 as you seem to be for 18, but are fortunes are tied at this point. Arch 3 has a tough choice to make. I have a feeling Calvin will try to use some of TTA's speed to get the rail so that he can position himself behind the pacers but on the rail like he did with super saver. Stay Thirsty may have the same idea. That leaves AAA with the choice of dropping way back on the rail and trying to follow Calvin or trying to race him for the rail. Tough choice. AAA does have tactical speed and I hope he decides to go out and fight for the rail and position himself for a good trip behind the top 6 instead of falling back. If he succeeds on the rail to position himself just off the speed but not too far back, I like his chances far more.
