What the Nation is saying about Clear Sailing...

Frankie Leal, stable foreman for California-based trainer John Shirreffs and the man who accompanied Arnold Zetcher’s New Orleans Ladies heroine Zardana to the Crescent City, was unsurprisingly all smiles Sunday morning outside his Brazilian-bred mare’s home-away-from-home in trainer Wally Dollase’s...Read More
$200,000 New Orleans Ladies Fillies & mares, 4-year-olds and up, 1 1/16 miles, inaugural running Jockey David Flores (Zardana, winner): “We had a picture-perfect trip. The strategy was simply to get her to relax and John (Shirreffs, trainer) said she would get the job done. The pace was perfect...Read More

  • amfuller · I don't think we will see RA at the AB. Even an 85% RA should have been what she was up against yesterday based on how she ran in 09. I think the best campaign won HOY in 09 not the best horse and now RA is paying for it. I am a Zenyatta fan, I just think what RA accomplished last year was great but she may never be the same horse again. I want RA and Z to match up when they feel RA is 100%. With Z yesterday, she go into traffic had to duck to the inside and still won going away and Mike never had to use the whip. Go Zenyatta! · 1495 days ago ·

  • Arrrgy · If RA bounces back and can put in a 1 mi. work in 1:39 in two weeks, come back with a good 5F work, why not run in the AB? · 1495 days ago ·

More than six months have passed since Calvin Borel last got that feeling -- whatever that feeling is a human being gets from sitting on the back of Rachel Alexandra during a horse race. If racing fans are itching to see Rachel, the 2009 Horse of the Year, make her first start since the Sept. 5 Wood...Read More
  • Arrrgy · Training, equipment change, Lack of works and lead switch problems say yes. If she was mine, she wouldn't run for another month. · 1497 days ago ·

  • kmb · Absolutely agree with Arrrgy. Steve A. has been saying RA wasn't fit, but JJ made the final call. JJ almost killed RA last year, and he expects her to bounce back without proper training after what she was put through with the grueling campaign she successfully handled as a 3yr old!!! Poor Rachel.. · 1495 days ago ·

It's sunny 64 degrees, with the Wind really blowing hard out of the north. Sustained 15-20 mph, with stonger gusts. Main track fast, turf good, with rail out 20 feet. Track played moderately in terms of time yesterday, and the same during morning work today. No biases on Friday's card. There's some ...Read More
The days are being crossed off the calendar with careful precision. Hopeful fingers turn the page to peek at the month of April and more specifically at the circled date. • Arrrgy · CS will jump up another notch and may be enough to beat a tiring RA. She needs a low tide and a super fast track to help. · 1497 days ago ·

  • gardenesque1 · Clear Sailing is improving, versatile, 3 for 3 at FG, and she is capable of uncorking triple digit late pace figs. Has a fitness edge and will be finishing. That being said, any of Rachel's last 9 figs would get the job done. · 1497 days ago ·
