Older Comments about Cirrus des Aigles...

Corine Barbe says injury not too serious, but more xrays coming--pointed towards Ascot: “We think it was just a little problem and nothing too serious. He was really lame straight after the race, but was much better very quickly. “He has had an X-ray already and there is a small shadow, but on the whole the report is not too bad, which is fantastic. “He will have some more X-rays in a few days and we will know more at the end of the week, but he had some medication yesterday, he has not had any since and he seems well this morning.”

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @Euro Trash, You're absolutely right, and as well she should. If Cirrus Des Aigles never ran another race in his career he owes no one a thing. He's made his connections a ton of money over the years. · 1050 days ago
  • Euro Trash · He certainly has been a wonderful warrior · 1050 days ago
wow i love this horse. hope when he was pulled up past wire it was nothing serious. great race for him. he seems to get better with age.
Wins the G1 Coronation Cup at Epsom, getting home a little over a length ahead of Flintshire. Race fitness told the story of this race, IMO. This was the 4th start of the season for CDA and the seasonal debut for Flintshire who hadn't ran since the Arc De Triomphe last October. Andre Fabre will be very happy with Flintshire.
To the surprise of few I'm sure, Cirrus Des Aigles wins the G1 Prix d'Ispahan easily by 3 lengths over Anodin in 2nd. Olympic Glory finished a well beaten 4th.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @Northport, A few times over the years I've made the comment that it's shame CDA is gelded and we'll never get to see any little CDA's race someday. But then again, if CDA hadn't been gelded he would've long ago disappeared from active racing, so it's kind of a catch 22 either way you look at it, LOL. · 1067 days ago

Just barely beat Treve in the Prix Ganay, ending her winning streak.
  • Show All 13 Comments
  • Euro Trash · @ILuvTurfRacing, yes Cirrus loves soft ground, but Treve's reputation has been inflated a bit. Many have been seeing her as the next Allez France and better than Zarkava. I am not sure she can live up to that. She is a brilliant animal, but if she was the next Allez France, she would have put Cirrus away in the stretch. Let us see how she comes on from this. I cannot believe that Criquette would send Treve into this race not race fit. · 1095 days ago
  • jonquil · It's been said many times that there's only so much preparation outside of a race that can be done for a big race. However, as usual I do agree with Euro. Criquette isn't just any trainer and she thought highly enough of Treve to put Treve in this race for a first race and not some smaller race against fillies. Criquette would make sure Treve would be as fit as possible even without the benefit of a prior race. And to top it off, Cirrus Des Aigles is coming a month off from a huge race in Meydan - that's a race in a completely different climate and flights to and from Meydan and likely a week-long quarantine unless I'm mistaken. I just have a hard time making excuses for Treve even while I'm reluctant to really make any judgment myself -- she could very well improve on this and go on to beat Cirrus Des Aigles later this year. We'll just have to see how they both develop. But I do feel Treve ran a fine race here. · 1095 days ago
It appears pretty definite now the connections of Cirrus Des Aigles have chosen to ship to Hong Kong to run in the G1 Audemars Piguet QE II Cup on April 27th at Sha Tin, bypassing a potential clash with unbeaten Arc winner Treve in the G1 Prix Ganay at Longchamp on the same day.

glad i had him in my tri. ran so well for second. proud of you Cirrus!
  • Euro Trash · He just keeps coming back season after season to run well. It took him some time to get back to form after his injury last year. It was a tough post for him to get over from. Great ride by Soumillon to get him position also. · 1124 days ago

Cirrus des Aigles could only manage 4th today in his 2014 debut in the listed Prix Meydan Hotel over synthetics at Chantilly, leading most of the way before being overcome in the final furlong
  • Show All 4 Comments
  • ILuvTurfRacing · @northport, the Prix Meydan Hotel is a conditions race, not a listed race. · 1149 days ago
  • ILuvTurfRacing · It's also prudent to mention this is a race ran on polytrack at Chantilly, not turf, and Cirrus Des Aigles has never been as good racing on synthetic surfaces as he's been racing on turf throughout his career. · 1149 days ago
Back-to-top-form Cirrus contends a solid Champions Stakes field. Farhh returns from the sidelines here. Ruler of the World (cutting back in distance) Main Sequence, Hunter's Light. Plenty to like, but I think it will be Morandi to chase Cirrus home.

We can say he is officially back 100% to his former lethal self with another win in the Prix Dollar. He is the first horse to win this three years in a row.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @Sullivan, I've always said I'd like to see Cirrus Des Aigles come over for the BC Turf just once, but my guess is if he runs well in the G1 Champion Stakes at Ascot a few weeks from now that Hong Kong will likely be on his agenda again. · 1299 days ago
  • kaitlinefree1 · i love this horse. i'm glad he won today! maybe hes regaining form. · 1299 days ago
Cirrus Des Aigles finally back in the winners circle with a win in the G3 La Coupe de Maisons-Laffitte today in France.
Cirrus Des Aigles could manage only a 5th place finish in the G2 Grand Prix De Deauville on Sunday. Even geldings have to eventually be retired someday. I don't believe in continuing to race horse year after year and running him into the ground simply because he can't reproduce in the breeding shed. Maybe it's time they start thinking about retirment for this gelding who's been a great champion and a great servant to connections over the years.
  • kaitlinefree1 · i said it last time also that i think Cirrus needs to be retired to a nice farm. this just isn't his year at all. · 1340 days ago
Cirrus Des Aigles beaten again by a head in the G3 Prix Gantaut-Biron at Deauville by Petiti Chevalier, a horse who prior to this race had never won above listed level in his career. I've seen a few comments already on various web-sites saying CDA had an overblown rating for winning soft ground G1's, but that hardly holds water when you factor in his beating St Nicholas Abbey in the G1 Sheema Classic, because you won't find ground any firmer than at Meydan. That said, CDA no longer looks the same dominant horse we saw in 2011 & 2012. He's clearly a horse on the down now and possibly already a year past his prime, IMO.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · @kaitlinefree1, I've always been a big CDA fan, too. One of the biggest reasons I've always liked him so much is that he's a horse that's really and truly paid his dues over the years. It took a long time sitting second chair behind horses like Zarkava, Goldikova, & Vision D'Etat before he finally got recognized as being the best horse in France in 2011 & 2012. But frankly, this was a race you figure he should've won in a romp on race fitness alone after those 2 runs in the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud & King George this season. · 1355 days ago
  • kaitlinefree1 · yeah exactly, maybe its time for him to just be a horse. hes a gelding right? · 1355 days ago
Cirrus Des Aigles, who runs in the G3 Prix Gantaut-Biron at Deauville on Saturday has been taken out of consideriation for the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York on August 21st, his trainer Corine Barande-Barbe announced today. He is however still being pointed at a 3rd run in the G1 Champion Stakes at Ascot in October.
  • Northport · Makes sense. He isn't getting any younger and hasn't quite bounced back this year. I hope he improves in the Champion and shows his trademark brilliance · 1356 days ago
After back to back mediocre finishes in his last two G1 starts, 5th in the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud and 4th in the King George, the connections of Cirrus Des Aigles have decided to drop him in class and have supplemented him into Saturday's G3 Prix Gantaut-Biron at Deauville. It's a race Cirrus Des Aigles has contested twice in the past, finishing 3rd in 2010 behind multiple G1 winner Vision D'Etat and the then German based Budai who now races in Australia. Cirrus Des Aigles came back a year later to win the 2011 renewal of the Prix Gantaut-Biron, defeating Lancelot in 2nd and Skins Game in 3rd. Sometines when a horse of this caliber is struggling to regain top form taking a drop in class and getting their nose across the wire in 1st again can go a long way to helping regain that form.
i don't think Cirrus has been the same since his lay off.):
I'm wondering what Cirrus Des Aigles mediocre 5th place finish in the G1 Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud have his connections thinking now in relation to bringing him to Royal-Ascot next month for the G1 King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes? That had been the intended target if all went well in the Grand Prix De Saint-Cloud, but now I'm sceptical as to whether they'll actually ship him over for the race? Once thing I've learned about CDA over the years is to never write him off or count him out, but what I saw from at Saint-Cloud on Sunday he'd have to improve on quite a bit to beat horses like Al Kazeem & St Nicholas Abbey who are both running extrememly well so for this season and are being pointed at the King George.

  • On The Gallop's · He has been laid up since The Champions stakes. He did fine his first start back. You have to think that as the summer ends and the fall starts he will round into form like he always does. I hope he goes to the KG/QEII because he deserves to be there with the best. Even at 7 he will still win a GR1 this year. Gutsy gelding · 1402 days ago
  • Euro Trash · I agree On The Gallop. He improved from 112 to 132 last year from the beginning of his season to he race with Frankel. · 1402 days ago
