What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Checklist...

Here Comes Ben continued his upward ascent in class with a late-running victory on Saturday at Saratoga Race Course in the 31st running of the Grade 1, $250,000 Forego.   Freshened after concluding his sophomore season with a fifth-place finish in a minor stakes at Turfway Park in December, Her...Read More
Trainer Todd Pletcher was delighted to report this morning that Quality Road exited his victory in Saturday’s Grade 1 Woodward in excellent shape and would next return to Belmont Park to prepare for the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on November 6.Read More
Vineyard Haven, first under the wire but disqualified to second in last year’s King’s Bishop, will have another opportunity to earn a Grade 1 victory at Saratoga Race Course when he competes in Saturday’s $250,000 Forego at seven furlongs.   Owned by Godolphin Stable, Vineyard Haven returned f...Read More
TRUE NORTH QUOTES   Todd Pletcher, winning trainer of Bribon (No. 3) and third-place finisher Checklist (No. 8): “I thought with Quality Road going to the Met Mile, it could open a lot of options for Bribon. He had won at 6 and 7 [years old] and he’s just a very versatile horse.   “I thoug...Read More
The veteran gelding Bribon returned to the scene of his greatest triumph Saturday afternoon at Belmont Park, charging from last to first for a 1½-length victory over Snapshot in the 32nd running of the Grade 2, $250,000 True North Handicap.   The 7-year-old son of Mark of Esteem, who last year...Read More
The Belmont Stakes is now only hours away and while the 3rd leg of the Triple Crown may lack the Derby and Preakness winner, it has no shortage of quality.  There are two colts, First Dude and Ice Box, on the verge of ascending to the top of the 3YO ranks with a win in the Test of the champion....Read More
One year after his sensational back-to-back triumphs in the Grade 3 Westchester and Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap, Derrick Smith’s 7-year-old gelding Bribon seeks to recapture old glory Saturday in the 32nd running of the Grade 2, $250,000 True North Handicap at Belmont Park.   The six-furlong...Read More
Quality Road will have his final tune-up on Tuesday for Memorial Day’s Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap, and trainer Todd Pletcher could not be happier with the way the 4-year-old Elusive Quality colt is coming into the race.   “He’s doing great,” said Pletcher of Edward P. Evans’ homebred, who in...Read More
Though his horses are here, it remains unclear when or if Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel will join them. The Daily Racing Form reported earlier this month that Frankel, 68, has stayed away from the track battling an undisclosed illness at home in California. • mentorass · Regarding The Derby Trial and Hull and heading for Prek, last year the Preakness '08 had an obvious winner BB, and looking for the second horse was the trick. (One really has to handicap every race, like not overlooking MTB, but BB was a stand out.) Anyway, when I did my numbers on PK '08 ~ Macho Again, who came out of the 7.5 furlong race he was very attractive. When I reviewed a visual/video of the race I fell in love with this horse . Which goes against one of my racing rules Never fall in love with a horse race, etc. Anyway the video showsw MA bumping into and being bumped by everything coming down the stretch to include the Clerk of Scales and the Parking attendant at the entrance to the track and MA ran in about +/- 1.27. And MA goes on to run second in PK '08 as you know, and Icabad Crane ran third. He then went on to pay some nice figures. AAAnnddd, guess who else came out of this race. The horse to beat BB in th Belmont, D'Tara. Butttt, the key to finding D'Tara to beat BB in the Belmont came out of the Preakness when on that card, D'Tara ran on the card and had a better time/speed performance, maybe even Beyer than Big Brown did that day. With Casino scratched, BB with footproblems and the racing god not going to give the triple crown to this connection, D'Tara was the horse. If you look at the 4fl and six fl fractions for MTB in his last, Sunland, before the KD they are the best of the rest. I scratched my head when Smarty Jones got beat, and now I know it was MTB's dad getting distance and a little horse with a lot of stuff inside. Check Hull's 4fl and six fl times against this field. · 1808 days ago ·
  • mentorass · continued Hull. Check Hulls 4 & 5 FL in the Derby Trial against the '09 Preak contenders. Also, MTB is not finished, but that the connections overmicromanage this horse, but they will overlook something, like his bit will fall off in the middle of the race. · 1808 days ago ·
