Oh, what might have been. Today at Laurel Park, amidst a sea of slop, the right horse won, but it was in the wrong race. As Ben’s Cat effortlessly strode away from five foes to win the $75,000 Laurel Dash Stakes all I could think was that he should be running instead in the $1,000,000 Breeders’ Cup ...Read More

  • arazi · szulcc - I agree. Where's the fun in winning a $75k race in the slop? After winning all these races, don't they sort of "owe it" to the horse to see what he can do? He's run like champion - he deserves the shot. · 96 days ago ·

I have been pondering what horse I am going to the Breeder’s Cup to see. Last year, I couldn’t decide who I was going to see because I was excited about so many. The first time Tom Howard attended a Breeders' Cup was at Churchill Downs in 1988. "That was Alysheba's year. I watched it from right back here in the bleachers," Howard said. "That was the best place to watch, because you could see all the horses going over to the paddock." Alysheba was housed in B...Read More

  • nobody · Angela, After reading your March 17th blog earlier today I have a question for you. You offered some vey high praise for two riders, namely Leparoux and Velasquez. Would you please explain what it is about these riders that you feel puts them above the others. · 313 days ago ·

  • RaTalk_Girl · Sure, I praise Leparoux and Velasquez because I like to watch them ride. I enjoy watching Leparoux sit patiently and then attacking. I like that Velasquez makes it looks so easy even though we know it is not. I also put Garrett Gomez and Jamie Theriot on my list of favorites. I like to watch how athletic GoGo is on the track. Theriot I like because he gets the job done without being a horseracing household name. I don't know if I would say any of them are above the others, but they are my favorites. · 310 days ago ·

  • medlocke · Chamberlain Bridge looked brilliant winning the B.C. Turf Sprint and the Rail Splitter Stakes at Sam Houston. I think he's got a huge shot at bringing the Al Quoz Sprint Trophy home to America from Dubai this year. I think one of his biggest threats could be Happy Dubai. Who's already won two 5f sprints on the turf at Meydan during the Carnival. But I'd have say Chamberlain Bridge is much more the class horse of the two. JMO. · 354 days ago ·
