In 1999 was in the 20 horse field for Kentucky Derby while at Church Hill Downs. He spiked a fever one week before the KY Derby was scratched. Came down with pneumonia and almost died from the respiratory condition. He developed scar tissue in the lungs on X-Ray from pneumonia.
