Cavalryman

In his first race in the racing silks of Godolphin, Cavalryman, a colt never off of the board on turf, was well beaten in Dubai on the all-weather track in the Al Maktoum. The Al Maktoum was to be Cavalryman, the odds on favorite in the race, prep for the upcoming Dubai World Cup. He didn't at all look anything like the same colt the won the 09' Grand Prix De Paris, the 09' Prix Niel, or that ran a very game 3rd to Sea The Stars and Youmzain in the 09' Prix de l' Arc de Triomphe. Going into the Al Maktoum on March 4th, and given his turf successes. would've thought Cavalryman to be one of the favorites for the Dubai World Cup. But he just didn't seem to take to the all-weather surface at Meydan at all. He was soundly beaten finishing 6th just ahead of champion Japanese mare Vodka.

Frogsracingcoopdyga.com, a French thoroughbred racing web-site, posted that Cavalryman will now race in the blue colors of Godolphin and is now being trained by Saaed Bin Surror. Surror said on this web-site that Cavalryman is in training right now and will "definitely" race in the 2010 Dubai World Cup. That throws a whole new hitch into the wagon. Cavalryman was ranked 7th in the final 2009 World Thoroughbred Rankings. He won the 2009 Grand Prix De Paris, the 2009 Prix Niel, and finished 3rd in a photo just being edged out by mere inches by Youmzain for 2nd in the 09' Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe won by Sea The Stars. IMO, Cavalryman, just now starting his 4yr.old campaign, was one of the very best 3yr.old's in the world during the 2009 racing season. He will definitely be one of, if not the class of the Dubai World Cup field. IMO.

Of all the European 3yr.old colt's in 2009, after Sea The Stars, I personally thought that Cavalryman showed the most potential to go on and really be something special in his 4yr.old campaign in 2010. He was one of three horses that came into the Prix de l' Arc de Triomphe undefeated. Sea The Stars, Cavalryman, and the French filly Stacelita all went into the Arc undefeated. Cavalryman ran a strong Arc, just barely nipped at the wire for 2nd by Youmzain. Going into the Arc, he had won the 09' Grand Prix de Paris beating Age of Aquarius, Mastery, Freemantle, and Black Bear Island. He then won the Prix Niel beating Behesthtam, also an Arc runner, and Claremont. This colt has a long, powerful stride and seem's to be able to run down his competition rather easily. I won't be at all surprised if he races in the 2010 Prix de l' Arc, if Cavalryman win's it this time. JMO.
