Caracortado, who has not raced in 15 months due to persistent frog problems with his right front foot, could have his first workout since that lengthy span soon. Winner of nine of 19 starts and $864,105, the rags-to-riches California-bred gelding won the Daytona Stakes with a breathtaking last-to-first move on Jan. 8, 2012, albeit in a four-horse field. “He could work on the turf at Hollywood Park when it opens,” trainer Mike Machowsky said of the chestnut son of Cat Dreams, winner of the Grade II Robert B. Lewis Stakes in 2010 and the Grade II Del Mar Handicap in 2011. “He might even breeze here.” Caracortado won first out at Fairplex Park in September of 2009 against $40,000 maiden claimers.
His foot is looking much better, and should be returning this summer at Hollywood Park.
ive been waiting on this horse for over a year. since he is a gelding he should come back. it was one of the fastest last 1/16ths i ever seen in horseracing. machowsky left the bar where he was watching the race when denman said he didnt fire today only to see him mowing them down stylishly at the wire sure fooled mike and trevor
Any news?
It’s been almost a year since Caracortado won the Daytona Stakes with a scintillating last-to-first victory that had racing experts mentioning his burst in the same breath as those of a Thoroughbred of yesteryear whose stretch rallies made him a household name, Silky Sullivan.Read More

So have they retired Caracortado?
It’s official. There will be no Breeders’ Cup for Acclamation this year. Trainer Don Warren confirmed speculation that the 2011 Eclipse Award winner as outstanding older male would not make the World Championship events at Santa Anita on Nov. 2 and 3. Read More

  • Mary Z. · Turfy, read the Acclamation threads. It's all been discussed, and yes, there's a reason that the connections themselves did not travel this year, and I think you already know that, but, in case you don't have the time to read, here's this, for now, about the trainer, but the owner also has health concerns. And you are really showing something today, as you will accept nearly any excuse for your personal favorites, wouldn't you? And why don't you address the connections personally. Do you have the guts to do that? If yes, do it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6jzT1TvWh-0 · 254 days ago ·

  • Mary Z. · Your dig about last year didn't go unnoticed. Lack of research about this horse on your part, and much speculation, but as long as you apply that skepticism equally and not just in picking on one horse, then that's just how you are, but in that way, fair in your pre-judgments. · 254 days ago ·

Whats going on with Caracortado, I have heard nothing about him as of late..was the injury more serious then they said?
Caracortado, scratched from Saturday’s Sensational Star Stakes due to a minor burn on the bottom of the frog on his right front foot, is recovering and will be pointed to the Grade I Kilroe Mile on turf on March 3. “Maybe after that we’ll look at the San Simeon Handicap at the end of the meet,” trainer Mike Machowsky said. “The plan is to keep him in California this year and hopefully get to the Breeders’ Cup (at Santa Anita on Nov. 2 and 3),” Machowsky said. The San Simeon at about 6 ½ furlongs on turf will be decided a day before the meet ends, on April 21.

  • mdracing69 · Caracortado, a late scratch from the Jan. 28 Sensational Star Stakes due to a minor burn to the frog on the bottom of his right front foot, is recovering slowly and likely will miss the Grade I Frank E. Kilroe Mile on turf on March 3. “I’m just taking my time,” trainer Mike Machowsky said. “I don’t know if I’ll make the Kilroe or not. If I don’t, I’ll run in the San Simeon (Handicap on April 21).” · 496 days ago ·
