Daily Racing Form had it's annual Black Eyed Susan-Preakness seminar here at Pimlico Friday morning. For the record, the picks went this way: In the Black Eyed Susan, Dave Grening picked Seeking the Title, while Andy Beyer, Jay Privman, and yours truly all landed on Harissa. That poor filly has no i...Read More
Several years ago, trainer Michael Machowsky had high hopes for a filly who was sired by Maria’s Mon, the daddy of 2001 Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos and this year’s victor Super Saver, but could never get her quite sound enough to enter her in a race.“I bought her as a yearling with a couple of p...Read More

I can’t imagine anyone will have any alibis after Saturday’s 135th Preakness Stakes is run at Old Hilltop, otherwise known as Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Md. The forecast is for sunny skies and comfortable temperatures in the 70s, the top horses received favorable post positions, and all ...Read More
Hi ho, hi ho, it's off to Pimlico we go for the second leg of the Triple Crown, the 135th Preakness Stakes, in which Super Saver, the Kentucky Derby winner, will face another large field, though the complexion of the race has changed dramatically from the lineup at Churchill Downs, both in terms of ...Read More

The performance of the week was turned in by Fly Down in the Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park. The promising Nick Zito runner earned a 100 BSF for his romping off the pace win over Drosselmeyer and must be viewed as a major player in the Belmont Stakes. Zito also has Derby runner-up Ice Box...Read More
With just a few days till Saturday's Preakness, our voters have predictably picked Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver as the favorite to win the second leg of the Triple Crown. Lookin at Lucky picked up a few first place votes and strengthened his footing as second choice once trainer Bob ...Read More

  • curlin · I don't care who wins as long as it is either super saver, lookin at lucky, conveyance, jackson bend, or dublin. i know this sounds wierd but i hate when crappy horses win prestigious races. i don't want a horse who has raced 8 or so times and has won twice. actually it doesn't have to be a great horse but if it isn't i want it to have a good pedigree or to be trained buy a top trainer. i hate when crappy horses like mine that bird trained by a no body of a trainer chip woolly comes and win a race that should be won by a trainer who races at a real track. and by a real track i mean: if it isn't in Kentucky, Florida, new york, Illinois, California, and i guess Arkansas (oaklawn) or Louisiana (fairgrounds ) your not racing at a real track. · 82 days ago

As of Monday afternoon, it looks as though there is going to be a full field of 14 for the Preakness. Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver will have no easy task if he is going to take the second leg of the Triple Crown--for many reasons...Read More
Caracortado punched his ticket to next weekend’s Preakness Stakes (gr. I) with a seven-furlong work at Santa Anita May 8 with regular rider Paul Atkinson aboard. The son of Cat Dreams stopped the clock in 1:24 3/5, the faster of two works at the distance.Read More
Eight days from race day, and the Preakness field still has questions, but it is much closer to taking shape than it was a couple of days ago. At this time, here are the 14 sophomores I see as most...Read More
The Preakness, the middle leg of the Triple Crown, is less than two weeks away. For those horses that ran in the Kentucky Derby, training up to the Preakness Stakes will be somewhat light. Wednesday was the first time many of them returned to the track to train. The Derby winner, Super Saver...Read More
Derby Trial winner Hurricane Ike heads an impressive group of new horses taking aim at the Preakness. Under Calvin Borel, the colt had a five-furlong work in 1:00.40 on Tuesday at Churchill Downs. Borel rode Hurricane Ike to the one-mile victory in the Derby Trial as well as his second-place finish....Read More
With the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby behind us and the eyes of the horse racing industry now focused on the Preakness in less than two weeks, the most important questions that need to be answered have as much to do with the mud as they do with a horse. Is Super Saver a great 3-year-old, capa...Read More

  • davidcrone · He has a shot, for sure. He ran very good in the Derby, considering most of the horses as close as he was completely collapsed. He got a good trip, but a big part of that was having the speed to stay in it early. He will be a deserving Preakness favorite, but he isn't a near-lock like some past Derby winners have been. · 88 days ago
While trainer Todd Pletcher traveled from Louisville to New York two days after securing the Kentucky Derby (G1) with SUPER SAVER (Maria's Mon), Pimlico officials learned DUBLIN (Afleet Alex) will be shipping into the Preakness Stakes barn on May 11. The $1 million Preakness S. (G1) is May 15.Read More
After Noble’s Promise finished fifth in the Kentucky Derby, trainer Kenny McPeek considered taking his colt to England for Royal Ascot’s Group I St. James’ Palace Stakes for a mile on grass on June 15. Super Saver is Baltimore-bound to pursue the second jewel of the Triple Crown, the Preakness Stakes. It appears he is going to have a lot of company on May 15, as the trainers of several Derby runners indicated they wanted another shot at the colt. The Kentucky Oaks champion, Blind Luck...Read More
  • Arrrgy · Nowhere in the world is a young horse asked to run on such a lousy racing surface when it's wet. It can't be compared to anything i know of and is cruel to the horses. The only horseman I saw all day was Calvin Borel. · 90 days ago

  • myownbusiness · Will I bet him in the Derby? No. But, he did run second to Eskendereya twice, and he is going to be, quite possibly, the shortest price favorite since the 20 betting interest field began. IMO, that makes him very deserving of inclusion in the field. · 102 days ago
  • callieracer · WATCH careful the way STATELY VICTOR how he won the Blue Grass. He was ridden hard to Paddy O'Prado, he start lenghting his stride once he got the lead. His sire Ghostzapper one of the best mile and quarter horse of all time. I going to bet a exact box Dublin Homeboykris & Stately Victor. $200 to win Homeboykris. · 102 days ago
Because no one else will tell you, not a single Wood Memorial alumnus has finished in the money in the Kentucky Derby since Funny Cide and Empire Maker in 2003. That's six years of blanks, 13 off-the-board finishes and an average placing of 10th. So before one more gas-blower tells you about how bad...Read More

  • cstphns20 · Four Triple Crown winners came from winning the Wood Memorial and that does not include Secretariat who finished third in the Wood. So what's the point? On May 1st the horse who runs the best race will win the Kentucky Derby. That's the way it has always been!! Just pick a horse you like, stay on his band wagon, bet on him to win and if he doesn't, try it again next year! · 103 days ago
