In the Whatever Happened To department, while he hasn’t raced since Sept. 27 of last year or had a recorded breeze since last Oct. 27, multiple graded stakes winner Caracortado is still alive and kicking. The 7-year-old California-bred son of Cat Dreams could return to the races this summer at Del Mar, where he won the Grade II Del Mar Mile in 2011. “He’s galloping every day now,” said trainer Mike Machowsky, who has nurtured a nagging foot problem the chestnut gelding has endured for more than two years. “I’ll probably run him five-eighths on the grass at Del Mar. The foot grew out really well and he’ll make it back.”
I put alot of the blame for this horse past injuries on Machowsky, Time to retire Caracortado...

Caracortado, fourth in the Grade III Eddie D. Stakes opening day in his first race in nearly two years, is scheduled to work a half-mile on the main track Saturday as trainer and part owner Mike Machowsky prepares the rags-to-riches California-bred gelding for the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint on Nov. 2.
Very nice 4th! For being off for nearly 20 mths, he made a nice move. He needed the race. I expect he will improve next out.
  • Mary Z. · His finishing as well as he did surprised me since he was off for so long and had to grow back a frog. · 1306 days ago
Caracortado exited the race in good order from the Eddie D. stakes. After his big effort, his connection plan on moving forward to the BC next.
After nearly a 20 month hiatus from racing due to a hoof injury, Caracortado is set to return on Santa Anita's opening day on Friday Sept 27. He's entered in the Eddie D. Stakes which is 6.5F on the hillside turf course. If he does well, he could be pointed to the 1 mil dollar BC Turf Sprint. Go Caracortado!!
