What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

The 2009 King’s Bishop was headlined by Munnings, who was cutting back in distance off of a 3rd place finish behind Rachel Alexandra in the Haskell at Monmouth Park.  He was to be joined by Vineyard Haven, the 2008 Hopeful and Champagne winner, who was making his first start in North Ameri...Read More
After a couple of very strong efforts at Gulfstream in the spring, Quality Road was considered one of the main contenders for the Kentucky Derby.  His Florida Derby victory earned him the label of “superstar” from track announcer Larry Collmus as he handily dispatched Dunkirk in the final three...Read More

  • Medlocke · Great analogy, but that's why they run the race. Zentational will no doubt be tested harder than he has been in his last four win's, but he's a quality horse that know's how to win. That's why he has four straight win's. They'll all come at him hard, but Zensational will win the B.C. Sprint. · 138 days ago
  • mshutty · A bad start, rail draw and pressured pace did Zensational in. Fatal Bullet was just playing too much catch up and didn't have the conditioning. Fleeting Spirit ran a dud. Dancing In Silks ran the race of his life. Hats off to Carla Gaines for a well planned campaign, a new top in the prior prep race and taking advantage of the home court. · 131 days ago
If there is one thing you can always count on in the Breeders' Cup it's that it will have it's share of longshot winners and mid-price overlays who get lost in the handicapping frenzy that is so much a part of the event.Read More
The post position draw for Saturday's $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita added a little further intrigue to the race after Zensational, the track's 7-5 morning-line favorite, drew the rail. Nine of the 11 horses pre-entered for the six-furlong Sprint were entered on Tuesday, with Square ...Read More

Bob Baffert has been quoted as saying Zensational is one of the most talented horses he has ever trained in his Hall of Fame career. The 3-year-old son of Unbridled's Song will get a chance to prove it Nov. 7 in the $2-million Sentient Jet Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) at Santa Anita.Read More
  • Rossington · Not that there's even really such a thing, of all of the Breeders Cup races, this race is as close to a "sure bet" as you're going to get. My meaning by that being that in each race there's going to be a favorite. I think there's little doubt that Zensational will be the favorite for the Sprint. And of all the favorites for each race, I feel that he's the one that's most likely to win his race. As of late, Zensational has just looked unbeatable at 6 furlongs. It will really surprise me if Zensational loses this race. I'm not saying that he can't, he's definitely got plenty of competition, but I don't think he will. But given what his odd's are likely to be come race time, don't go looking to get rich off of this race. · 141 days ago
  • mshutty · One thing is for sure, when that gate opens, there will be no stopping him. He will run as fast as he can for as long as he can. Fatal Bullet will be breathing down his neck pushing him faster than he has ever run before. Keep in mind, Baffert wants a cool day thinking a hot day changes the Pro-Ride surface to be unfavorable to his charge. Don't count the filly Fleeting Spirit out. Tons of class, beating on a huge fields of boys. Dancing In Silks is capabale of the upset as well sitting just off the Zensational/Fatal Bullet duel. · 141 days ago

  • Rossington · Both of O'Brien's horses, Rip Van Winkle and Mastercraftsman are for real. I've watched a lot of replays of races that they've either won or gave Sea The Stars all he wanted. Personally, although O'Brien doesn't seem to think so, I feel that Mastercraftsman is a bit more talented even then Rip Van Winkle. I plan to bet Mastercraftsman whether he's in the Dirt Mile or the Classic. I do, however, feel that Rip Van Winkle will be right there with the front runner's come Classic's end. If she sticks with the Classic, it would for me be difficult not to bet Zenyatta to at least hit the board. She handles the synthetics and most particularly Santa Anita race course as well as any horse in racing does. Since it seems that most good turf horses do well on the pro-ride surface, I also wouldn't rule Gio Ponti out of this race either. Beyond that, it's difficult to say. Einstein has done well here in the past having won the S.A. Handicap earlier in the year. Richard's Kid, although a longshot, has done exceedingly well on synthetics having won the Pacific Classic and finishing third in the Goodwood. Summer Bird and Quality Road are the question mark's to me in the race. Having raced exclusively on conventional dirt, no one really knows how they will fire on synthetics. If he does, I feel Quality Road may be sitting on a big race having been bogged down on off tracks his last two races. Colonel John is also proven on synthetics, although I think this particular group of horses may be a little better competition than he used to facing. All and all, this is a tough race to handicap with a lot of "what if" factors to consider. I anxiously await. · 142 days ago
Big Drama and Munnings should each relish a cut back to their ideal distance of seven furlongs, but in addition to dealing with each other must contend with the likes of Capt. Candyman Can, Vineyard Haven, and a host of other talented sprinters Aug. 29 in the $300,000 NetJets King's Bishop Stakes (g...Read More
  • Medlocke · Big Drama and Munnings are two of the best in the business at this distance, or 8 furlongs for that matter, but this race just shows how some horses, no matter how good, just don't run well in the slop. · 155 days ago

  • TerriZ · I witnessed Quality Road beat Dunkirk and set a track record at the Florida Derby. He bested Barbaro and Big Brown for the record at Gulfstream Park. Dunkirk had the lead and QR took it away from him; Dunkirk left a defeated horse. It was frustrating that QR's previous trainer didn't know how to manage a horse with bad feet. Whatever can be said about Dutrow, he certainly knew how to get the best from Big Brown by his selection of shoes and by letting him rest. I am sure that Pletcher will be a improvement. Quality Road is a talented, big, intelligent, and even-tempered thoroughbred; he reminds me of Big Brown. And I was lucky enough to see both of them in the FLorida Derby. · 224 days ago
A story about Rachel Alexandra seems out of place in a column about the Breeders' Cup, but who cares. That's between Jess Jackson and the Breeders' Cup decision makers.
