Champion Cape Blanco sires first foal a filly
I hope he gets a chance to breed some of the top mares,I think he could be a champion sire in a few years if given the chance
Congratulations to Cape Blanco, the Male Turf Champion for 2011.
Should be horse of the year 2011!!! NO DOUBT... Three trips to the U.S. and 3 grade 1 wins.
  • travel_vic · Turfers rarely win HOY · 1958 days ago
  • DeadHeat · He will probably win the Turf but not HOTY. Both HDG also has 3 grade one wins and with one coming outside her division, after such a big year, she will most likely get it. Game on has two grade ones, and two seconds in grade one company. I would think the third nominee would be Acclamation or Cape, though I think based off his Pacific Classic win Acclamation will be the third nominee. · 1958 days ago
Acclamation: 7 starts 5 in the money 2 off the board 3 (not five) Grade 1 wins CWittingham, Eddie Read, Pac Classic 2 Grade 2 wins Hirsch and Jim Murray Off the board 5th in F Kilroe Mile finishing behind horses named fluke Jeranimo and Times Gone by. Finishing last in the Grade 3 Charles Town Classic behind, Game on Dude, Tizway, Tacklebery, Gone Astray, Inherit the Gold, No advantage and Rule. Cape Blanco 3 for 3 in America Winner of the G1 Man O War, Arlington Million and Joe Hirsch. Won the top 3 Turf races in the United States and did so impressively against the Best Runners the US has to offer, ever ducking not one time. All 3 races far outweigh the turf races that Acclamation ran in. Consensus Cape Blanco Hands down Eclipse award Turf winner Acclamation distant Second. Hard to Win HOY when unable to win your own division Championship.
Really disappointing news breaking right now England's Racing Post web-site. Cape Blanco apparently sustained an injury during his win in Saturday's G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont, and has been retired!! I was really hoping to see Cape Blanco get to run in next month's BC Turf at Churchill Downs. A win in the BC Turf, I felt, would've put Cape Blanco squarely in the discussion for winning the Eclipse Award for 2011 American HOY. But he still deserves to win the Eclipse Award for champion turf horse for 2011, IMO. Best wishes to Cape Blanco in retirement!!
  • footlick · very sorry to hear that. · 2029 days ago
  • AndyScoggin · That doesn't surprise me. CB has had a grueling campaign and he was all out to win on Saturday. It felt like something was going on in that race. · 2029 days ago
Has been retired
Hooolllyyy Cow! Cape Blanco hangs on... Thank you Dean's Kitten for making this Hirsch Classic so exciting!
  • shores · definitely! Dean's Kitten gave a good fight! He should improve next out, wherever he goes... · 2030 days ago
On this morning's Racing Post web-site in England, Aidan O'Brien says that Cape Blanco will be returning to America to try and complete the hat trick. Cape Blanco is going to run in the G1 Joe Hirsch Turf Classic at Belmont over 12f. I've already seen Cape Blanco race over 1-1/2 in Europe. So I know what he's capable of at that distance. But I'm pretty certain that a lot of American racing fan's have only seen him at 1-1/4 in the 2 races he's won in America. IMO, Cape Blanco will come to Belmont and win the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, too. The only thing that will be different for Cape Blanco in that race is that he'll likely be facing Winchester instead of Gio Ponti this time. Mark my word's, Cape Blanco will win this race, and then we'll see him again at Churchill Downs in November for the Breeders Cup Turf. I think it's looking quite possible that Cape Blanco may be named American turf horse of the year. JMO.
  • medlocke · Actually, I believe Cape Blanco may only have to win 1 of the 2 races between the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic and the Breeders Cup Turf to be named American Turf champion, and should he win both, and Goldikova get beaten in the B.C. Mile? I think he could garner serious consideration for American HOY. TJMO. · 2057 days ago
  • DeadHeat · Medlock, What about Acclamation? As of now he has two grade one wins over turf too. If he goes to the Turf and I hope he does, and wins against Blanco I would think he would be turf champion. I would also think because of his dominance over the surface as of now he would be just about tied with CB as division leader. · 2057 days ago
"Breeding For Speed? I keep hearing that U.S. breeders are breeding for speed, yet how does one explain Arlington Million Day (Aug. 13)? In the three Grade I turf races that afternoon — the Secretariat, the Beverly D. and the Million — two of the 11 foreign-bred horses competing led after the opening half-mile, compared to just one of the 19 American horses. What's more seven (63.6 percent) of the foreigners were positioned in the top half of the field at the first call versus just six (31.6 percent) of the U.S.-born runners. It gets worse. The average early speed ration (ESR) of the foreign-bred steeds was a +6; the Americans averaged a +9. If this breeding for “speed” continues, I foresee tracks going back to a tape barrier." Derek Simon
proud!I think he did his great-great grandsire (Secretariat) proud!
just held off the late-charging Gio Ponti in the Man O' War. i hit the $5 exacta
