Shortly after the 2011 Breeders’ Cup, I made my Eclipse Award selections. For most of the categories, I stand by my original selections, but there are a few divisions in which some end-of-the-year races caused me to change my mind. • rorschach1992 · Did he actually state Mission Approved and Dean's Kitten as being some of the best in the WORLD???? MmmHmm. Is he not aware that they both ran on World stages and were absolute non-factors, Mission Approved 14th out of 16 in the Japan Cup and Dean's Kitten 9th and last in the BC Turf. That's really not a glowing recommendation for Cape Blanco. · 131 days ago ·

The Eclipse Awards are only a week away, and with the nominations already released, people can now choose from the top three horses chosen for each division. • Floridaf · I think I agree with all of your picks, though I find it hard to pick an Eclipse winner in the Female Turf division. Perfect Shirl's only win was the BC F&M Turf; Stacelita had two G1 wins and a 3rd in a G1 with open company; and Dubawi Heights had a G3 and a G1. I think you picked the best of the bunch, though, giving Stacelita the the trophy. · 138 days ago ·

  • footlick · Mary Z.- I'm not sure he likes soft turf, which might be why they really haven't run him outside of Cal much. If the turf was to his liking, I certainly think he could have taken the Sword Dancer. The fact that he won the Pacific Classic, though has opened up even more options for him in California, so they may opt for a turf and synthetic year. · 141 days ago ·

  • LAZMANNICK · I wouldn’t hold a dismal finish in the Charlestown race against any horse. The track is essentially a bull ring, much like Fairplex, with very sharp turns. The track was also sloppy and sealed. It’s easy to see that he didn’t like that race based on how dismal he ran and yet he bounced back and won his next five in a row. As for the Kilroe Mile, Acclamation isn’t a miler and is zero for two in that particular race. He’s a true router who likes to set a controlled pace and when he can do this is very tough to beat. In fact the only way to beat him in a route when they are planning on taking him to the front is to challenge right from the beginning. · 141 days ago ·

  • rorschach1992 · *Grade 1 Pacific Classic, sorry but I just have to correct that as it is CA's only $1 million race, and very few $1 million races for older horses outside the BC. Regards to the Amazombie debate, ridiculous to even suggest he's not the clear choice. Sprints for me personally end at 7f. Mile doesn't constitute a sprint. Amazombie won 2 G1 sprints Ancient Title and BC, plus had a good year winning the Sunshine Million Sprint, G2 Potrero Grande, and Tiznow at 7.5f. And he won the L.A. Handicap, horrific DQ that one was. Plus there were more than enough G1 winners in the Sprint. Amazombie = 2011 Champ Sprinter. Now this whole Turf Male, ultimately I think it may very well go to Cape Blanco, but agreed he's certainly not a lock. Acclamation is definitely in the running, and will at the very least be a finalist. Its too bad they couldn't settle it at the BC. But if Acclamation doesn't get this, he's also in the running for Champ Older Male, that's where, in addition to his turf record, his Pacific Classic win earns him big points. · 159 days ago ·

  • DeadHeat · He will probably win the Turf but not HOTY. Both HDG also has 3 grade one wins and with one coming outside her division, after such a big year, she will most likely get it. Game on has two grade ones, and two seconds in grade one company. I would think the third nominee would be Acclamation or Cape, though I think based off his Pacific Classic win Acclamation will be the third nominee. · 164 days ago ·
