What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Candrea...

Maiden winner Reneesgotzip literally burst into the graded stakes ranks Sunday with a scintillating 7 3/4-length romp in the 61st running of Santa Anita’s Grade II, $150,000 Santa Ynez Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at 6 ½ furlongs. The daughter of City Zip, purchased by the Lanni Family Trust for $45...Read More
Candrea improved with her Beyer figures in her first 3 efforts. Stretching out from 7 furlongs in a minor stakes to a grade one at 8.5 furlongs was a tremendous test for Candrea. She faltered at the end after going an extra 3/16ths of a mile in that grade one, which was very admirable. Her Beyer figured also improved to 85. Shes older more mature, with almost 2 months of rest and going backward in distance. I could see her exploding with a huge jump in her Beyer figure and running close to a 100 with her Beyer figure in the Santa Ynez. That's probably whats its going to take to beat the early morning favorite Reneesgotzip.
Looks like she has been injured, judging how she stumbled across the wire today.

  • MichaelPavelick · A good study of using workout activity to determine if a horse is sound. Candrea was eased to the wire in her last race (D. D. Princess s.) which is a strong indication of physical issues possibly. As long as the horse comes back with a workout within 30 days of showing signs of physical concern, then that concern physically is usually minor. Candrea came back 20 days after being eased to the wire on Nov. 19th. She had two 6 furlong works, and one 7 furlong work since also. Very nice for today's effort at 6.5 furlongs. Her last workout was 5 days before the Santa Ynez. A very nice sign of physical soundness, and readiness for today's effort. · 132 days ago ·

The Kentucky Derby is America’s race, but in the eyes of Bob Baffert, who has won the Run for the Roses three times, the Breeders’ Cup is an inspirational and motivating event that has the potential to attract new blood and new bucks in an industry that sorely needs both.
