  • Floridaf · I have not seen anything that would indicate that that is where he is heading. He was supposed to make his comeback in the Big Cap, but that obviously didn't happen. · 72 days ago ·

Breeders’ Cup Marathon winner Calidoscopio was not entered in Sunday’s San Antonio Stakes. “He came up with a wrenched ankle,” trainer Mike Puype said of 10-year-old Argentine-bred horse. “We need a little time to fix it up.”
On January 15, Calidoscopio drilled a 6F bullet in 1.13:40 (1/3) at Santa Anita Park.
Great horse who favors long distances with a pedigree full of stamina to boot. I think it would be awesome if he stayed in the US for stud duty. He is the type of horse that the US should be striving for (and needs, IMO).

  • Age of Reason · Apologies, for the factual inaccuracy, Goblin. I was only quoting what I'd read from a reliable source. It's likely the writers at BloodHorse just assumed Calidoscopio was a gelding, given that he's 10 years old... · 127 days ago ·

  • goblin · Yes, AoR, the key words being "reliable source". How reliable are they being if others know the facts better than BH on a given story? Making assumptions is not part of good journalism. For accuracy on DOB's, times, gender, etc., I nearly always check Equibase if there seems to be a question. · 127 days ago ·

  • mdracing69 · Breeders’ Cup Marathon winner Calidoscopio worked five furlongs on Santa Anita’s fast main track Wednesday in 1:01.40. “We’ll look at the San Antonio (Stakes at 1 1/8 miles on Feb. 3) and then if all goes well the Santa Anita Handicap (1 ¼ miles on March 2),” trainer Mike Puype said. · 128 days ago ·

  • AmbitiousD · So excited for Calidoscopio! I thought he would run well in the Marathon, but he blew away my expectations. I wonder if he would do OK on Synthetics. I also hope Puype doesnt try to change his training style of galloping bareback. I'm really excited to see what he can do in more races in the US · 184 days ago ·

  • kay.robinett · buckpasser - from the things they were saying on the old versus (whatever they call that channel now) this horse is a bit quirky - he goes without saddle except for serious works and races, has to have his head covered in the starting gate, etc. I am glad he has a trainer who works with his little quirks and keeps him so happy. A lot of the "big box" American trainers who work/treat all of their horses as if they were stamped by the same cookie cutter might not be willing to do so - and we would not have seen such a dominating performance from such a grand horse yesterday as a result. My husband and I have talked often about buying a couple of nice fillies when we retire and enjoying them in our golden years. If we do - small barn trainer who treats horses as individuals and is willing to run them without drugs is the way we will go...and when the fillies retire in turn they will be bred to horses like this grand fellow or Musketier. Soundness, stamina, durability, ability to carry weight - those are key ingredients to breeding champions. · 196 days ago ·
