Surgery yesterday was successful. He will now have 2 weeks of stall rest. Per Kiaran McLaughlin
Cairo Price is scheduled for surgery tomorrow at Rood & Riddle to remove a small but very painful chip from his ankle. ~Kiaran McLaughlin
Of course my favorite horse out of the derby. This KD is going to be such a joke. Im going to compare California Chrome to Man O Wars 100 length victory against Hoodwinked. Such a shame these champs are breaking down. Honor Code, Top Biling, now Cairo Prince. Jesus.

  • Dressage3295 · This is years Derby is hardly a joke- there's excellent talent in there. CC so far seems to be a bit of a monster so far, so we'll see how he does come Derby day. Wicked Strong is finally coming into his own away from the speed favoring GP track. Hoppertunity, Wildcat Red, Chitu, General A Rod and quite a few more have proven to be worthy contenders. I, personally, think Samraat is a toss seeing he couldn't handle 9f. I liked Cairo Prince as well, but after seeing his FL D, I question his ability for 10f and think he is much better as a miler. Top Billing, looking very promising in the beginning, proved to have little against graded stakes colts. Despite my support for Honor Code, he never proved (not that he had the chance exactly) that he could come back at three just as good as he was a two. That being said, try to look pass your established bias and see that we actually seem to have a good grouping of 3yr olds this derby. · 149 days ago

HRTV announced this morning that Cairo Prince is OUT of the Derby?!

  • coyne.kaylor · Definitely never said that, just talking about hypotheticals... If horses dropped off at the same rate as last year, and his owners had Derby fever, he could find his way in... I guess Cleburne and Strong Mandate could be added to that list. · 149 days ago
  • coyne.kaylor · I don't think any of them have a chance, but in a "Giant Finish" scenario they could find their way to the gate. · 149 days ago
Ahh poor boy wish he were still in the derby my money was on him
Cairo Prince, Honor Code, Top Biling, Constitution etc...... we are left with California Chrome, Samraat, Wildcat Red, and Wicked Strong. Wont be much of a competition if another one falls out.

  • DerekFisher · Guess this means Vinceremos is in, and if Midnight Hawk and Ring Weekend don't go, then everyone's exotic bet Commanding Curve will be in. · 150 days ago
  • Northport · Would make for a good story if Vinceremos gets in · 150 days ago
The more I look at this horse, the more I like him. After the Holy Bull when everyone was on the Cairo Prince bandwagon, I wouldn't have bet his Derby Future Wager wth counterfeit money, but now that everyone else has jumped off, I'm getting on. The Fappiano line has shown a remarkable affinity for Churchill Downs (the first three sires in his line were all first or second in the Derby), and Cairo Prince looks to be the only major contender from this dominant male line in the Derby field. Also, how many times have we seen that it's folly to ignore the Godolphin Blue colors at juicy odds?
Train up good Prince! Im counting on you to show these people what you're made of. These 3 upcoming races are YOURS!
If Danza can win the Ark Derby...CP can win the KD...

  • Sullivan · Its not how fast you run, but how you run fast. Your IGNORANCE is unbearable. Is there ANY hope? · 154 days ago
  • travel_vic · I have studied the science of biomecahnics since before you were conceived. The idea of locmotion through space has many surprising combinations that are effective: one fault compensated by yet another often makes an animal very efficient at what they do. Asymmetry is the big bug a boo in locomotive aptitude. Just having the mechanics is only part of the answer. I have seen pitifully conformed animals win with nothing bu HUGE heart and desire so is the combination of the Two, working together that reminds of us all of what excellence is made from. Go back to school and LEARN something for a change before opening your mouth and insuring your ignorance to all who read it. · 154 days ago
Most likely, though CC smokes CP in the stretch
  • CierraJanay · Or the opposite. California Chrome may have raced MORE than the Prince, but he hasnt gone any longer a distance than CP. He may have won, but some horses need to be kept on their toes. CP came off a lay off that lasted months. He might be the horse that needs the constant stimulation. California might be in for a shock. The Prince will be there ready. · 154 days ago
Wicked Strong, a horse who was 3rd in the Remsen, beaten by Cairo Prince at 1 1/8 is getting into the Derby, but CP who lost by a nose to Honor Code, is possibly not going. This is so logical. Cairo Prince has a better chance at winning than Wicked Strong does.
I just want to know, How can we say Cairo Prince doesnt have the stamina to go the Kentucky Derby length when it is the same length at the Holy Bull and he demolished that field? 8.5 Furlongs in the Holy Bull/Kentucky Derby and 9 Furlongs in the Remsen/Florida Derby.

  • travel_vic · sure the Derby is, but tell me, how many colts have run that coming IN except Canonero II?? · 161 days ago
  • travel_vic · you evaluate how they do at NINE to project that shot at 10 · 161 days ago
***Ignore those two comments, the person who I was talking to about the KD had the distances wrong.
Cairo Prince done very well in his starts, but after the Florida Derby, I think I might be a little worried about him racing. But we'll have to wait and see how it goes!
Cairo Prince done very well in his starts,
I got him in 20th spot minus the 2 Dubai horses is 18th. If Tapiture is 1st or 2nd then the 2 races will add 3 horses that leap frog him putting him in 21st only needeing one more horse to pass on the derby or fall off the trail. I really didnt think he would make it.

  • Sullivan · With Bayern, Strong Mandate and Ride on Curlin as well as Kid Cruz below him, just the running of the Arkansas will knock him out of the running. · 163 days ago
  • CierraJanay · Hope he makes it. · 162 days ago
McLaughlin better run this horse again before the derby?...obviously 9 weeks is too long to keep him out...2 races in 14 weeks is not good either..he got the right style to win derby..not to mention breeding

  • tmallios · Coyne agree with you all the way. I would take a slightly different approach. I would allow him the time to grow Physically and mentally. I would attack the 3 yo races in the Summer>> Jim Dandy- Travers ala WTC. In the meantime the Derby trial is perfect. If he passed that test,i would go straight to the Met Mile. Because he is a 3yo,he would get an incredible weight Allowance from his elders. Regardless if you are pro or con to his distance limitations. One thing that no one can deny, One turn Mile is probably his ideal distance. To be the lightweight would be scary. · 164 days ago
  • buds · looks like 24 points will get him in after all. hope he has a marked improvement for the derby... good luck chasing chrome! · 163 days ago
