  • BrianZipse · Now I understand ... for the most part I try to stay out of the back and forth stuff, but maybe on this one I will make an exception. Enjoy your holiday weekend, icyhotboo. · 154 days ago ·

  • CauseForConcern · That race was great!!!! Inspirational!!!! I think Tom Durkin knows how to captivate the moment with his call. I remember when Giant's Causeway and Tiznow hooked up in the stretch, and he described it as a "heart pounding, pulsating stretch drive". Rachel raised the rafters that day. · 154 days ago ·

Notice I didn’t say “the" Pick Six and me because this is not a post about the elusive wager that I have never hit and seldom play. No this is about Pick Six, the horse. “Wally” is his nickname, and I've been following him since the first time he ever ran. The big, handsome bay colt, by Dynafor...Read More
Blame emerged as a force last fall with victories in the Fayette Stakes (G2) at Keeneland Race Course and Clark Handicap (G2) at Churchill Downs. The Arch colt will try to get his four-year-old season started with a victory on Saturday in the $100,000 William Donald Schaefer Stakes (G3) at Pimlico R...Read More
  • medlocke · I really like the looks of this colt!!! He's a real competitor, no doubt about it. I'm curios to see how well Blame performs after his winter lay-off. If he hits the track running in the same sort of form that he carried throughout 2009, he really could become one of America's top older colts to deal with in 2010. IMO. · 631 days ago ·

Jay Em Ess Stable's ARSON SQUAD (Brahms) bided his time in Friday's $169,650 Alysheba S. (G3) at Churchill Downs, saving his best run for the stretch of the 1 1/16-mile test, and pulled away to score by 2 1/4 lengths with jockey Paco Lopez guiding him to a second straight win. Trained by Richard Dut...Read More
Bullsbay and Macho Again, Grade 1 winners and Churchill Downs lovers, renew acquaintances and make their seasonal debuts in Friday's Grade 3, $150,000 Alysheba Stakes at 1 1/16 miles. After a filly has already won seven stakes races, defeated males twice, subjugated horses of her own gender, there isn’t much more you can ask of her.  However, owner Jess Jackson was hellbent on testing Rachel Alexandra and thus he scheduled a date with her in the Woodward. Read More
  • cigar · This was a more exciting finish than the Classic. The Classic finish is overrated in a sense because Zenyatta NEVER had any traffic trouble and just did what she always does (which is impressive) but this effort was remarkable. · 771 days ago ·

They call it a handicap, but not because of post positions, for crying out loud. And yet here's Einstein being asked not only to carry high weight of 123 pounds Friday in the 135th Clark Handicap, but to start from the outside in post 14 of the Churchill Downs starting gate. "What can you do?" asked...Read More

  • Rossington · Devanni, yes that was said about Einstein. Before the Classic it was being stated that this would most likely be Einstein's last race. But I don't think his connection's counted on an 11th place finish in the Classic. I, for one, am personally glad that they're giving this great champion one more shot at going out with glory. And against a pretty competitive field in Misrembered, Bullsbay, Macho Again, Giant Oak, and Furthest Land. All the best to Einstein. I'll surely be sentimentally rooting for him to win the Clark Handicap. · 804 days ago ·

A few days prior to the Breeders' Cup, I started to write something about how horses with prep races run on dirt had failed so abysmally over Pro-Ride at Santa Anita the year before.
