What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

After a filly has already won seven stakes races, defeated males twice, subjugated horses of her own gender, there isn’t much more you can ask of her.  However, owner Jess Jackson was hellbent on testing Rachel Alexandra and thus he scheduled a date with her in the Woodward. Read More
  • cigar · This was a more exciting finish than the Classic. The Classic finish is overrated in a sense because Zenyatta NEVER had any traffic trouble and just did what she always does (which is impressive) but this effort was remarkable. · 46 days ago
They call it a handicap, but not because of post positions, for crying out loud. And yet here's Einstein being asked not only to carry high weight of 123 pounds Friday in the 135th Clark Handicap, but to start from the outside in post 14 of the Churchill Downs starting gate. "What can you do?" asked...Read More
It's been a long and storied career for Einstein and his trainer Helen Pitts-Blasi. The long road which featured victories on all surfaces from coast-to-coast comes to an end when on Friday he takes on a full field for the Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs.Read More

  • dustino140 · I'm reading that he's been supplemented to a race in Hong Kong in December, so he might have one more race in him before he's done. · 75 days ago
  • bband · Maybe after drawing the 14-hole... yuck... they decided to pencil in one more. Always feels good to hit your last shot before calling it a day! · 75 days ago
This weekend's lineup is tremendous, with 16 graded stakes at Churchill, Aqueduct, and Hollywood. I'm especially looking forward to the 2-year-old races, as well as the Cigar Mile and Clark Handicap.Read More
The heavy lifting is all done and according to trainer Dallas Stewart, MACHO AGAIN (Macho Uno) is "ready to roll" for Friday's 135th running of the Clark H. (G2) at Churchill Downs. "I feel good about our chances," Stewart said of Macho Again, who is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds. "I like where ...Read More
Stronach Stables' Einstein, unplaced in the Nov. 7 Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I), was assigned top weight of 123 pounds for the Nov. 27 Clark Handicap (gr. II) at Churchill Downs.Read More

  • arazi · I believe that sounds correct. · 80 days ago
  • Rossington · Devanni, yes that was said about Einstein. Before the Classic it was being stated that this would most likely be Einstein's last race. But I don't think his connection's counted on an 11th place finish in the Classic. I, for one, am personally glad that they're giving this great champion one more shot at going out with glory. And against a pretty competitive field in Misrembered, Bullsbay, Macho Again, Giant Oak, and Furthest Land. All the best to Einstein. I'll surely be sentimentally rooting for him to win the Clark Handicap. · 79 days ago
A few days prior to the Breeders' Cup, I started to write something about how horses with prep races run on dirt had failed so abysmally over Pro-Ride at Santa Anita the year before. I was going to list all of the 2009 dirt-to-Pro-Ride horses, label them throwouts and advise the public that they wou...Read More
Mastercraftsman is one of the European bankers of the meeting and should have too much class for Pyro. Furthest Land could represent some value in the place market.Read More
Europe's Mastercraftsman is a strong favorite at 6-5 in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.Read More
Part four of my Breeders’ Cup Classic blog, and below is a look at the final four pre-entrants. Colonel John rates a longshot look in the Classic. 2-time local graded winner just missed in the Goodwood, and he won the Grade 1 Travers at this distance last year. He was my Ky Derby top in ‘08, and I h...Read More
The presence of classy Europeans Mastercraftsman and Sweet Hearth to the pre-entry field for the $1-million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (gr. I) on Nov. 7 gives the runners from the powerful Godolphin stable the prospect of some tough competition.Read More
Larry Zap takes you back to see Grade 1 winner Bullsbay (Larry Zap Bloodstock purchased) training as a two year old at Santa Anita Racetrack on the old dirt track. Check him out gallopingRead More
Rachel Alexandra provided one of the great moments in the history of Saratoga when she scored a courageous head victory over older male rivals in the $750,000 Woodward Stakes Sept. 5.Read More
Once a race of national prominence, one that counted Kelso and Broad Brush among its champions, the John B. Campbell Handicap has largely receded into the background of racing noise on the East Coast.Read More
As soon as trainer Kiaran McLaughlin found out Rachel Alexandra would be running in the Woodward Stakes (gr. I) Sept. 5 he quickly contacted the owner of his Woodward hopeful Asiatic Boy, about the possibility of heading to California.Read More
This year's Breeders' Cup Classic (gr. I) is such an odd concoction of grass and synthetic horses and undistinguished older dirt horses it's difficult to make a worthwhile list of potential starters.Read More
I'm really happy that he is really coming into his own. Once again, the Tiznows win big on the days where it counts the most.
Wynn Las Vegas released their Future Book odds for the 2009 Breeders' Cup at Santa Anita. Leading the way in the Classic is the undefeated filly Zenyatta (10-1) and Einstein (10-1) as co-favorites. Read More
  • arazi · I think the future books are interesting as they are wide open this year. There are no standouts in the older division, and with polytrack, the Europeans are a factor more than ever. Some interesting plays to consider are: - Colonel John at 18-1 off his tremendous turf return at Del Mar - Rail Trip at 25-1 off a dominating run in the Hollywood Gold Cup - Macho Again at 30-1 based on his ability to run big in major events I'm not sure about 12-1 on a European that may or may not come, but would love to see super horse Sea the Stars come for Breeders' Cup. The Wynn put together a deep future book that should be great to get bettors started. I actually wish the Breeders' Cup still did those future wagers... they were a lot of fun. · 176 days ago
  • mdracing69 · Wynn has a nice future book site with the odds in PDF. · 175 days ago
Stamina influence Tiznow again matches with a speed-oriented Turkoman-line mare. Whitney Handicap (gr. I) winner Bullsbay joins Colonel John as elite runners bred on the cross.Read More
The sun shone proudly every day at old Saratoga during Week 2 and not one turf race was transferred to the main track and if you know anything about the Spa and the shaky weather, that is an accomplishment. Read More
