Buckpasser- with a Past Performance record of 31 25 4 1 and carerr earning of 1,462,014 back in 1967, was truly one of the all time "greats" The really amazing fact is that during his racing career, Buckpasser suffered with recurring quarter cracks. These injuries although keeping him out of Triple Crown races, didnt stop him from becoming the 1966 Horse of the Year. I have completed his Performance history. If anyone has any additional video please add them in.
Set one mile world record, lost it to Dr. Fager. Retired as one of racings top money eranings.

  • dale wyatt · Yes he did. He was also the highest syndication price at the time $4.8 million. The only time he faced Dr. Fager was in the Woodward that Damascus won by 10 lengths. For the record, Dr. Fager finished third and Buckpasser was 2nd. · 335 days ago ·

Buckpasser's style of racing was similar to Zenyatta. Missed Triple Crown with injury. Dominated as 2 and 3 year old; at 4 his health deteriorated and he locked horns with two standout three year olds, Damascus ansd Dr. Fager.

  • dale wyatt · Buckpasser was my favorite horse of all time. I saw him Lose the Futurity to Priceless Gem but come back in the slop to win the Champagne with Priceless Gem 6th. At three he was unbeatable. He had bad feet and the quarter crack that plagued him as a three yr old came back as a four yr old and caused his retirement. · 335 days ago ·

Buckpasser did win 15 in a row, all on dirt, then was 3rd in the Bowling Green Handicap on turf. After that he made only 3 more career starts, winning the Suburban on dirt, finishing 2nd in both the Brooklyn and Woodward (to Damascus) before being retired to stud.
  • icyhotboo · Both Dr. Fager and Damascus were lucky to catch him at a time his knee was bothering him to the point of retirement. He is an excellent example of why I believe about 20 different horses can be ranked behind Secretariat and make a valid case for each.Nice post Jackie999 · 349 days ago ·

I was looking for some history on the great Buckpasser. Does anyone have some of his race history that they could add to the wiki? Any Youtubes?
  • icyhotboo · sorry just fond memories but here's one that might interest you.Buckpasser won 15 races in a row on dirt never having run on grass but for some strange reason they did run his next race on grass which he lost.He then reeled of another 10 in a row on dirt against the best.If he doen't make that grass run do we talk about Citation,Cigar,Zenyatta or him. · 379 days ago ·

  • footlick · They wanted to run him on the grass because Mr Phipps wanted to send him to France and run in the Grand Prix de Paris. He was the only horse running in European shoes, which were flat instead of having cleats. Buckpasser was sliding the whole race. They scrapped plans to send him to France. · 372 days ago ·

  • footlick · An amazing animal. He was very lazy, but no horse could make up the amount of ground he did in such a short time. Baeza, in an interview, said that Buckpasser was the fastest horse he ever rode. He also had a bum knee which bothered him for his whole 4 yr old season because of the weight he had to carry. Damascas ran the race of his life that day, but you could see Buckpasser was just not extending himself. · 372 days ago ·
