  • ILuvTurfRacing · @Euro Trash, My guess is this race was a prelude to Brown Panther running in the G1 Ascot Gold Cup next month at the royal meeting, but beyond that I'm not sure what races he'll be pointed toward? There's been some good horses who've won the G3 Ormonde Stakes over the past few seasons now. Harbinger in 2010, St Nicholas Abbey in 2011, Memphis Tennessee in 2012, Mount Athos in 2013, and now Brown Panther in 2014. · 565 days ago
I heard RacingUK announcers Nick Luck & Steve Mellish prior to the Foundation Stakes at Goodwood today say that Brown Panther is due to go into quarantine sometime next week in preparation for the G1 Melbourne Cup coming up in a little over a month. Both said Brown Panther was supposed to run in the G1 Irish St. Leger again this year but he was sick around the time of the race, which was why he ended up running in the Foundation Stakes today at Goodwood over 10f which is really a trip far too short for him. Thought Brown Panther looked awfully good when he won the G2 Goodwood Cup at 2 miles back in early August. That type of effort from him at Flemington could make him a very live contender in the Melbourne Cup, IMO.
Brown Panther sees out the tough 2 miles at Goodwood thoroughly to win the G2 Goodwood Cup. Given the level of competition in against him in the race, I think this was probably the best race I've seen Brown Panther run since he bolted up to win the King George V Stakes during the royal meeting at Ascot in 2011 when he was a 3yo.
  • Euro Trash · I didn't gt to post before this race unfortunately. I have always followed this horse due to his owner. Very happy he won today. · 846 days ago
Trainer Tom Dascombe told the Racing Post this morning that Brown Panther will skip the G3 British Champions Long Distance Cup at Ascot on Saturday and will instead go to France to run in the G1 Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp on October 28th. That move now has me wondering if Dascombe still intends to bring Brown Panther to Santa Anita to run in the Breeders Cup Marathon? It would take some really quick regrouping to race in France on October 28th. Ship back to his home base in Great Britain, and then get on plane to be in California to make the BC Marathon on November 2nd. Almost seems a little too much, IMO. Just sayin'.
