  • AnnaK · IMO Leparoux is the wilier, abit like an invisible fox around a henhouse, so would bet on him, and personally think UR is the stronger physically and mentally. But there are a few others in there that I really like too, so a great race to think about. · 58 days ago ·

Next week’s Grade 2, $150,000 Shuvee Handicap for fillies and mares will likely feature two 4-year-olds from the barn of Todd Pletcher, the trainer said Sunday morning.   “We’re going to enter Awesome Maria, and I think we are going to run Happy Week as well to try and get her some black type,...Read More

Don't look now, but the 2011 Kentucky Derby is only ten weeks away. New contenders are rising fast, while the pretenders are falling by the wayside. Saturday features an excellent prep from Gulfstream Park, as To Honor and Serve makes his sophomore debut in the grade 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes. Next...Read More

  • dipak1 · 2011 kentucky derby is over, i am very disappointed with jockey Julien Leparoux piloting Dialed In in a very sluggish way left him 50 lengths behind the leaders without realizing that it is not a ordinary race, it is world famous Kentucky Derby and it is not a play ground, no horses yet own this kind of big races with a very big field and fast running horses ,own the race. it is kind ok joke to me that Leparoux play today in the derby field. it looks like he did'nt care too much about the race. shame on him! · 384 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · dipak1 it's almost impossible for a deep closer like DI to close on a tepid pace as shown today. If someone had told me the early fractions would be that slow I would have laughed. Leparoux is one of the best but he also needs a horse and a deep closer NEEDS a fast pace so the front runners come back to him as well as him gaining ground. · 384 days ago ·

Once again, the Kentucky Derby has changed drastically from what we all thought it would be at this point in the season. Horses like To Honor and Serve failed to progress from their juvenile form to three year olds. Promising looking two year olds like Brethren proved to only be hype. Dialed In show...Read More

  • DeadHeat · Bells, I am not sure what to expect of Nehro. At this point he reminds me of Ice Box but with more negatives. Ice Box came into the Derby off of only one big effort in 6 weeks, while Nehro has 3 in the same amount of time. For a horse just starting to roll, I think a bounce could easily happen. If not, then you have to consider the pace. Last year's Derby had a blazing pace set by 2 huge speed balls in Conveyance and SC. There is no horse with that kind of speed this year and most will probably try to throttle down and bunch up the back a bit. Without a pace to stretch out the field and possibly cause a pace collapse, look for him to get caught very wide and have trouble making up ground on stalkers or even pacemakers who are not burnt out by a rapid pace. · 394 days ago ·

The Factor has arrived in Arkansas, and yes that is big news to ardent fans of the Kentucky Derby such as me. • gettyde · Everyone wants The Factor to do well cause everyone is desperate for another great horse to emerge. The problem is that this group looks pretty darn lackluster. Speed figures don't lie. The rest of these horses just aren't running that fast. Watch out for Sway Away; he's a horse that has natural speed and the breeding to take all the way. How bad would you want to run if you had you tooth snapped off? · 406 days ago ·

  • bigbrown2332 · Well I agree with what you have to say gettyde, a lot of people want a great horse to come about. I wanted that to for a while to, but I think Zenyatta filled that desperateness for me. I know a lot of people say that she was a good mare, but not the best. but what she did for racing and what not, to me that shows a superhorse, and I do think she ranks up with there with the best mares, and best of all, thats what my gut tells me, so anyone who wants to get mad at me for what makes horse racing, keep it to yourselves...( with all do respect) . Like you said Speed figures don't lie, and there's not a star studded field lining up for the derby, but it's not lackluster. If you count in the whole crop of three year olds, you'll find a lot of very nice horses that have bright futures. · 406 days ago ·

For those who like stats, here are a few: 8 out of the last 11 and 11 out of the last 16 and Derby winners have come from the RAN sire line (those that did not were Giacomo in '05, Barbaro '06, Big Brown '08 and Charismatic '99 and Silver Charm '97). The Average Dosage Index from '95 to '10 (which is the 11 out of 16) is 3.15 which includes Thunder Gulch's 4.00, Real Quiet's 5.33, Charismatic's 5.22, Giacomo's 4.33 and Mine That Bird's 4.33. Since '91 (And I don't want to hear anything about this one, IT'S JUST A FUN FACT!!!), the Derby winner has been either 1st, 2nd or 4th in their last prep!! Pretty weird, huh? I guess that means Uncle Mo is not winning, lol!! Let me know if you like these stats though, I have more and I'll post them all the way up to the Derby. GOOD LUCK!!!

The addition of blinkers better improve Brethren a ton. His figures have been slow.He just lost to a recent low level claimer and Watch Me Go came back to run a clunker.
I'm going to attend the Arkansas Derby on Saturday, and I'm very excited about this field. The Factor is my favorite for this race. But, personally, I love Brethren. We'll just have to see who the top horse is in such a strong field!
