What the Nation is saying about Brave Victory...

The two key figures in the pace scenario for Saturday’s Belmont Stakes are Miner's Escape and Charitable Man. The former will be a longshot in the field of 10, while Charitable Man was made the 3-1 second choice behind Mine That Bird. So, let’s see how this may play out...Read More
  • mshutty · Excellent analysis of the Belmont Stakes likely pace scenario by Steve Haskin. I think he has the two early leaders nailed down. There is no doubt in my mind that the Zito barn is sending Miner's Escape. I believe Steve's estimate of where Dunkirk will be sitting early is interesting. He has decent trackable cruising speed, so if the pace is slow he'll find himself closer to the leaders than is being projected but without compromising his late punch. Agree, however that I would prefer he sits about 5 lengths off early closing that gap to two lengths behind about mid final turn. · 1447 days ago ·

In fact, Robert LaPenta has two chances to join Chenery--Miner’s Escape and Brave Victory. Longshots? Maybe, but don’t try convincing LaPenta he doesn’t have a chance, not while last year’s 38-1 stunning Belmont Stakes victory with Da' Tara is fresh on his mind. “I have to tell you, that day will be...Read More

LaPenta’s pair of Brave Victory and Miner's Escape worked in tandem after the break under jockey Rajiv Maragh and exercise rider Eddie Cruz, respectively, going a half-mile in :48.66 over the fast main track. • arazi · The thing you have to remember about Zito is he is always cognizant of how early speed can take these Triple Crown races. Think about: - Go for Gin - Louis Quatorze - Da' Tara Also, Commentator loafing on the lead is pretty tough... · 1460 days ago ·

Charitable Man confirmed his class. He had a dream trip but this colt has speed and is able to carry it a distance of ground. While the poly race at Keeneland might have been a complete throw out, he did benefit from the run fitness-wise. Charitable Man could give a generous run in the Belmont Stake...Read More
Not long ago it was all about whether Dunkirk would make the race, but after Saturday's Lexington, Pletcher's Derby roster grew to two, maybe three, after an impressive win by Advice.Read More
  • mshutty · Garrett Gomez will make a public announcement today at Noon EST on ESPN as to which horse he has chosen to ride in the Derby. Many are throwing Advice, the winner of yesterday's Lexington Stakes at Keeneland, into the consideration set but no announcement of Advice's Derby status has been made and let's face it, the decision really comes down to Dunkirk and Pioneer of the Nile. Is there any way Gomez would pick Pioneer over Dunkirk? No chance. Despite the lack of foundation, Dunkirk is the superior horse...proven on dirt and just confirmed his brilliance with a strong work out. It's an easy decision, Dunkirk's the choice! · 1493 days ago ·
