What the Nation is saying about Book Review...

A winner of the Grade I La Brea Stakes going seven furlongs on Dec. 26, Book Review was then a sharp second in the Grade II La Canada Stakes going a mile and a sixteenth on Jan. 20, and she’ll try that distance again on Saturday as she heads a six-horse field in Santa Anita’s featured Grade II, $200...Read More

I guess when you are a jockey with a name like Gary Stevens you better be good, and it looks like we have another good one. Did you see today’s Grade 2 Santa Maria? I mean for a new rider, it was simply masterful. This kid was on one of the race’s long shots, a mare named Great Hot, and it was like ...Read More

Looked good in a tough fought 2nd place finish.
In a manner eerily similar to so many other stakes wins covering parts of four decades, comebacking Gary Stevens sent longshot Great Hot to the early lead in Saturday’s Grade II, $200,000 Santa Maria Stakes for older fillies and mares and put on a textbook exhibition on how to ride a frontrunner, gu...Read More

In her first main track try, the John Sadler-trained More Chocolate, with Garrett Gomez at the controls, was able to ration her considerable speed as she charged to a 1 ¾ length victory in Sunday’s Grade II, $150,000 La Canada Stakes for 4-year-old fillies getting a mile and a sixteenth in 1:42.59. Saturday’s Santa Anita Park Recap – Jan 19 (5 out of 6) Fast main track seemed to play fair. Tactical types best on turf (turf rail at 8 feet). Tyler Baze and Rafael Bejarano both booted home a pair. On the ticket front I tabbed four Primary (Ms. G.I. Jane, Jubliant Girl, Trucial State, A Jealous Wo...Read More
Book Review has shown her versatility in winning two stakes at distances from a mile and an eighth to seven furlongs, the latter being the Grade I La Brea Stakes on a wet/fast Santa Anita track on Dec. 26, with Rafael Bejarano aboard the daughter of Giant’s Causeway for the first time. Read More
Book Review, fresh off victory at 9-2 in the Grade I La Brea Stakes on opening day, and Lady of Fifty, an impressive winner of the Grade II Bayakoa Handicap on Dec. 8, each seek consecutive victories as they head a field of six in Sunday’s Grade II, $150,000 La Canada Stakes for 4-year-old fillies a...Read More
With a crash and a thud and a boom and a bang, fickle fans of racing jumped ship in mid-stretch of yesterday’s Grade 1 La Brea Stakes. The excellent three-year-old filly, My Miss Aurelia, went down at odds of 2-5 much like the Mighty Casey had done so many years before. Read More

Over the years when a horse ships in for the Millions after running their last race in a BC race, two things happen- 1. they are underlays and 2. they don't often win. just sayin' · 143 days ago ·

My Pick 4 was shot before the races even started, as Race 2 was taken off of the turf, but I went for it anyways and lost immediately. I singled heavy favorite Drift King in the first leg, but after pressing Red Jag throughout, he took the lead around the far turn. Unfortunately for me, he got the l...Read More

  • Linda in Texas · I think Dance Card is lovely. Watched her race, watched her win. So what if she veered toward the center. When she goes out to exercise where the heck do you think she runs. Most are exercised right down the middle of the track. It boggles my mind why bearing away from the rail surprises so many. · 172 days ago ·

  • Mary Z. · It seems that she's drifted to some degree in all of her races. Front wraps added after the first race, "off behind" and sent to the farm when her trainer first got her. His words in this report about Questing's ankle chip surgery: http://www.drf.com/news/questing-has-chip-removed-race-2013. When she beat older females it was in a 25K optional claiming race. How good is she? Good enough to run win with the physical problems that she does have, but for how long? I hope she gets some time off now, and of course, good luck to her. · 172 days ago ·
