From the Racing Post web-site: Sightvery sub-par, trainer Mike De Kock announced today that he has decided to take Bold Silvano out of the G1 Dubai World Cup field and instead race him in the G1 Sheema Classic on March 31st. De Kock that he will still be represented in the G1 Dubai World Cup by Master of Hounds. Bold Silvano finished 5th of 9 in the G3 Firebreak Stakes back in February in his 2012 Carnival debut, and he finished a very disappointing 12th of 14 most recently in the G1 Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 3. This may very well be the right move by Mike De Kock for Bold Silvano, IMO. He's obviously not recaptured the same form on tapeta that he'd shown a year ago when he won the G2 Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 2. But he does have legitimate G1 form on turf in his native South Africa. Having won the G1 Durban July Handicap and finishing 2nd to stablemate Irish Flame in the G1 Daily News 2000 in 2010.

Is Bold Silvano still active? It would be great to see him race again.
De Kock withdrew his colt today after he came back sore from a workout. Bold Silvano's defection from the DWC really opens the race up quite a bit. As does Snow Fairy's defection from the Sheema. Bold Silvano was very likely to be co-odd's on favorite with Twice Over. But De Kock still has a real live wire for the race in Musir. Musir finished 2nd to Twice Over in Rd. 3 of the Al Maktoum Challenge. But I really believe he can improve off of that effort. Musir's never been worse than 2nd on the Meydan tapeta in 2 different Dubai Carnivals now.
  • medlocke · I didn't find out until after I had already posted this comment that Golden Sword has been pulled out of the Sheema Classic and put into Bold Silvano's slot in the Dubai World Cup by Mike De Kock. Golden Sword won 2 races, and had 1 place in 3 starts on the tapeta at this year's carnival. He also broke the Meydan tapeta course record for the fastest 1-1/4 ever ran over the surface. He could be as equally effective as Musir in the Dubai World Cup. · 1123 days ago ·

One of the likely favorites for the 2011 Dubai World Cup, Bold Silvano will miss the 2011 Dubai World Cup (G1) after he “tweaked or pulled something” according to trainer Mike De Kock.  Jason Ford of the Racing Post has the story.  As a result, Golden Sword, previously moved to the Dubai S...Read More

  • medlocke · Even worse than Bold Silvano missing Rd. 3 of the Al Maktoum Challenge. Saeed Bin Suroor entered Mendip in the Burj Nahaar instead. After Mendip romping in Rd. 1 of the Al Maktoum Challenge, and allegedly being pointed for the Dubai World Cup? Don't understand this move by Suroor at all? · 1144 days ago ·

  • ajump08 · medlocke, just like the Derby these trainers for the most part don't want a peak performance before the big day. Godolphin doesn't wan't to overdue it with him, but I do question if Mendip as good at 10 furlongs as 8 furlongs. He should definitely win his race though with division leader Skysurfer skipping this one and training up to the Godolphin Mile. · 1144 days ago ·

  • peteclara · What's happened with Richard's Kid? They pulled him out of the Breeders Cup Classic, supposedly for this race. Is there something wrong with him or something wrong with his owners? And why did they take him away from Baffert? He was doing a great job with Richard's Kid. · 1164 days ago ·

  • medlocke · I think a new era had began for the Dubai World Cup in 2010 at Meydan. What happened in 2010, I fear, will now be likely in many Dubai World Cup's to follow. Horses that show up early for the carnival and get two or three run's under their belt on Meydan's tapeta surface will be more of a factor in deciding the outcome of the Dubai World Cup than horses that ship all the way to Dubai for just that one race. Take last year's DWC for example. Gloria De Campeao, Lizard's Desire, and Allybar ran #1,2, 3. All three of those horses showed up at the beginning of the carnival and ran well in handicaps prior to DWC night. Gio Ponti's 4th place finish, and Mastery's 5th place finish were best among the shippers. I personally think this year is likely to be very much the same. Mike De Kock already has 3 likely starters for the DWC that are burning the tapeta up. Bold Silvano, winner of the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 2, Musir, 2nd in the Firebreak Stakes and winner of last year's UAE 2000 Guineas and Derby, and Golden Sword who has one win and one place at this year's carnival. Then there's Godolphin's Mendip. Who won the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 1, and took 2 races on the tapeta last season. He really look's the kind of horse that could be a big player in this year's DWC to me. Gitano Hernando finished 6th in last year's DWC, and 5th in this year's Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 2. But he's had troubled trips in both races, and is an outstanding synthetic surface horse. That's why I believe Gio Ponti's connection's should already have him in Dubai preparing to prep in the Al Maktoum Challenge Rd. 3 instead of in the U.S. prepping on turf. JMO. · 1156 days ago ·
