There is just one week left in 2011 and while nobody knows what the future holds for Golden Gate Fields, one thing we do know, is the past year was a banner one for the little track by the bay. On June 11th, jockey Jose Valdivia Jr. guided Ruler On Ice to an upset win in the Belmont Stakes. It was the highest point in the jockeys 17-year career. A win like that can sometimes vault a jockey to the top of the horse racing world. But in the case of Valdivia, life returned to the norm of a rid...Read More
  • jasen.mangrum · Why didn't Valdivia try to stay in New York this winter? With the increased purses and the chance to be a top 10 jockey after some depart for Gulfstream, it seems like a good situation. Now he's going to be third fiddle to Russell Baze & Aaron Gryder, so there's very good chance that he'll never be on the best horse in any race since there's 5 or 6 horses in most races. Did he go out there because Russell Baze is planning on retiring soon? At least its a beautiful part of the country. · 79 days ago ·

  • ruhlmann · It was a mistake to come back to Southern CA, the jockey colony here is very strong. And especially with the short fields, I don't think Valdivia stood a chance. I remember when he rode horses such as "Ghostzapper & Big Jag". Hopefully those days aren't gone for him. GL in Northern Cali. And don't forget about Kevin Krigger, he's been riding very well up there. · 79 days ago ·
