What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Blind Luck...

Duke of Mischief is really good at lulling rival trainers into complacency. Just when you think this horse is not a threat, Duke of Mischief turns up with a gutsy performance to score an upset victory. Read More

Is he not aware that they both ran on World stages and were absolute non-factors, Mission Approved 14th out of 16 in the Japan Cup and Dean's Kitten 9th and last in the BC Turf. That's really not a glowing recommendation for Cape Blanco. · 19 days ago ·

  • Mike in SB · I agree with your choice of Havre de Grace for Horse of the Year and I have been reading your blogs for a year or so and do not believe you have shown an East Coast bias, but as someone who lives on the West Coast I do believe some California horses have sometimes been denied awards they deserved because they did not race in the east. A big part of the problem is that some people have not accepted that racing has changed from the 1970's. In those days the championship races were run in New York in the fall, a horse did need to win in New York to be a champion in those days. But today we are in the Breeders Cup era of racing and unfortunately many of the big championship races in New York have been diminished in importance as a result. Today I don't believe winning the Woodward or Jockey Club Gold Cup necessarily means they are a better horse than the winner of the Goodwood or Pacific Classic, but too often the eastern horse gets extra credit for winning one of the older historic races, even though the fields in New York are not noticeably better than the ones in California. · 56 days ago ·

  • DeadHeat · annmatt, HDG could get 10f plenty fine, and I'm sorry, BL was not even close to a shoe in after her last race, and would not have been because of her two losses prior. FO who won at 10f finished behind HDG in the Classic, and I heard people just yelling about the fact that with one extra furlong he would catch her...how did that work? HDG does not seem to run her best over Churchill. She did not have an overly impressive work over the track this year and still finished well. Trying to say what could have been will drive anyone mad. BL is a great horse, but did not have it this season plain and simple. HDG should not get a minus becase her two losses to BL at 10f were by a neck and a whisker. You don't take off because she beat her at a shorter distance. If you do that then you might as well take off BL for beating her at a distance longer than 9f. The score was 1-1, even. It goes to the horse who did the most, Grace. · 83 days ago ·

  • gocashking · Amazombie, by finishing the year with big wins in the Ancient Title and BC Sprint is a no brainer for the Sprint Champion Eclipse. It won't even be close. There's no way 7F and 8F wins will be rated higher than those two wins at the "traditional" sprint distance of 6F. Caling Flashpoint "brilliant" is also a bit of a stretch, I think. · 82 days ago ·

  • Cigar16 · All fans should go to a live Breeders Cup at least once. But even with stars in my eyes I can see travel_vic's point. Watching at home you do get to see all of it, at the track, even with a good seat it has its drawbacks. I have gone to several, and do not regret the hassles etc. But watching at home you have the best seat in the house. At home there are no dirty bathrooms, parking issues, crammed bleacher seating, (shame on GP in 99, I was a sanctioned sardine) long lines at the windows, jammed self service machines, lines at concessions, backups at valet parking, you name it! Only problem is if there is a late scratch you cannot cancel your tickets. :) · 94 days ago ·
