What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Best Pal...

The tradition of California-bred Thoroughbred runners is a grand one. Horses the ilk of Morvich, Bed o’ Roses, Determine, Swaps, T.V. Lark, Decidedly, Hill Rise, Native Diver, Quicken Tree, Ancient Title, Crystal Water, Flying Paster, Snow Chief, Best Pal, Free House, Tiznow, Lava Man and Acclamatio...Read More

Snow Chief was a Classic winner and an American champion. The California bred, near black colt was a consistent and dominant star in 1985 through 1987. He was the all-time leading California bred earner until surpassed by Best Pal, and still is fourth only behind Tiznow, Best Pal and Lava Man...Read More

From the time the Pacific Classic was first conceived it was designed to be Del Mar’s signature event. It was to be a test for the top horses in the nation, going America’s classic distance of ten furlongs, and held where the turf meets the surf. • Mike in SB · TV I think the Breeders Cup is the best way to get a championship series like the ACS, they could expand the win and your in races into a series for each Breeders Cup race. The Breeders Cup and the Graded Stakes Committee are the best groups in racing that could be used to organize the different tracks, owners and trainers into excepting one governing body for racing. I'm not saying it would be easy but it could happen and needs to happen. · 282 days ago ·

Twenty years ago this week, a field of 12 older horses lined up for the 1991 Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park. Then as now, it was the first Grade 1 race of the year for the nation’s top older horses, but in 1991 it was the start of something even bigger: It was the first leg of the inaugural Americ...Read More

  • CauseForConcern · The idea is great, but, if a point system led to an Eclipse award, then all buy-outs of judges would be taken out of the equation. Then, horses who lose, would win the award. We can't have that. · 509 days ago ·

I would also add Curlin, Lawyer Ron, (consecutive years) Victory Gallop, Tank's Prospect, Davona Dale, Bold 'n Determined, and Festin as other memorable Festival winners. • ILuvTurfRacing · Before I say what I'm about to say, I'd like it noted for the record that I'm a huge fan of Game on Dude, and admire this horse a ton!! That said, I'm not sure the word "Great" actually applies to Game on Dude? I think he probably has as much heart and pure desire to win as any gelding racing in America, or any horse period for that matter. But 6-wins, 4-places, and 1-show in 15 lifetime starts is a long way from being labeled "Great" in my view. TJMO. · 803 days ago ·

  • xmango93x · Could be the best since Lava Man, but I am so biased toward Better Talk Now that I'm probably ineligible. I don't think I'll ever love a racehorse as much as I love that old gelding. Of course, that's because he was "THE horse" for me - the one who got me into racing when the most beautiful black horse I'd ever seen won the 2004 Breeders' Cup. This sport needs more great geldings that stick around and build fan bases. I don't think he was ever as popular as a horse like Lava Man, but to me Brass Hat was another one of those geldings that just stole my heart. The old, classy type that doesn't always win but always gives an honest account of himself. Evening Attire also comes to mind. Right now, I'll say Game on Dude is the best since Lava Man, but it'll take a lot to out-do that. Well Armed was a terrific horse on his day, also, but I'll put GOD above him based on consistency. · 798 days ago ·
