What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

If you can't get excited about racing this weekend, I don't know what to tell ya. Saturday is action-packed from coast to coast and I know I'll be glued to my computer with racing form in hand all all afternoon. Let's take a trip around the US and A, in the Space Shuttle to see what's in store....Read More
The field for the Grade 3, $125,000 Honeybee Stakes on Saturday at Oaklawn is set, with Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies runner-up Beautician making her first start of the year in the mile and a sixteenth race. She will be removing blinkers. The Honeybee will go as the eighth race, with an approximate...Read More
Lewis Schaffel’s 4-year-old Kentucky homebred colt Sal the Barber won the Calder Derby (G3) in mid-October before a disappointing 10th-place finish in the Hollywood Derby (G1) in late November in his last start of 2009, and is set to return for another campaign in Sunday’s ‘three other than’ optiona...Read More
While many of the leading Kentucky Derby candidates stabled in south Florida ran here Saturday afternoon in the Hutcheson and Fountain of Youth, another member of that elite group, Noble's Promise, did his major work earlier that morning when he worked four furlongs in 48.40 seconds for trainer Ken ...Read More
  • DebbieM · I became a big fan of Noble's Promise after watching him race in the Breeders Cup Juvenile. I hope he will continue to do well. Best of luck to Noble and his connections. · 13 days ago
Chasing Dreams Racing 2008 LLC’s 3-year-old colt Noble’s Promise and Peter J. Callahan’s 3-year-old filly Beautician are now in residence at Gulfstream Park in trainer Ken McPeek’s barn after arriving Tuesday on the Tex Sutton charter flight from Los Angeles that brought California-trained runners ...Read More
Blind Luck left trainer and co-owner Jerry Hollendorfer nearly speechless with her seven-length win in the Grade 1 $405,250 Hollywood Starlet Stakes on Sunday. Read More
Sunday’s closing day pick six from Hollywood Park includes the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet. Blind Luck is the 2-1 fav, but will her patient style be as effective over Cushion Track? Same goes for Beautician. The weather is expected to be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 60’s. Read More
  • cigar · Ugh, Beautician... she killed my tickets with her runner-up BC effort. I needed her off the board. · 82 days ago
This weekend’s stakes schedule is as light as last but certainly more consequential to next year’s Derby trail. The American racing world will be focused on the synthetic track of Hollywood Park as the CashCall Futurity and the Hollywood Starlet are run for late-season California 2-year-old supremac...Read More
Though Rose Catherine and Beautician each came up short in their respective Breeders’ Cup World Championships races in November, both will try to end 2009 with a bang in the $405,250 Hollywood Starlet Stakes (G1) on Sunday at Hollywood Park.Read More
Trainer Ken McPeek has left his six Breeders' Cup World Championships weekend starters behind for the time being to race during the upcoming Hollywood Park fall meet, he said Nov. 12.Read More
Despite losing the Breeders' Cup Juvenile by a head, Lookin at Lucky has emerged as the top 2-year-old in North America and will be widely considered the winter favorite for the Kentucky Derby."The consolation was, man, I have a serious horse," trainer Bob Baffert said the morning after a wide trip ...Read More
Juddmonte Farms' homebred trio of VENTURA (Chester House), VISIT (GB) (Oasis Dream [GB]) and PROVISO (GB) (Dansili [GB]) were doing well Sunday for trainer Bobby Frankel, who missed the Breeders' Cup due to ongoing illness. It was reported during the telecast that the Hall of Famer has checked himse...Read More
Nancy Mazzoni’s homebred She Be Wild shot through a narrow opening in the stretch, collared pacesetter Always a Princess, and inched away to victory in the $1,818,000 Grey Goose Juvenile Fillies (G1) on Friday at Santa Anita Park.Read More
It looked more like a rodeo than a horse race, but She Be Wild was good enough to prevail in the Juvenile Fillies. Behind her was a wall of horses who sorted themselves out at the last minute with Beautician in second and Blind Luck in third.Read More
With the Breeders' Cup fast approaching, we'll take a look at the final premiere preps for the Juvenile Fillies (G1) and Juvenile Fillies Turf. Home field advantage: The top two in the October 4 Oak Leaf (G1) at Santa Anita, BLIND LUCK (Pollard's Vision) and ALWAYS A PRINCESS (Leroidesanimaux [Brz])...Read More
  • Rossington · Lillie Langtry looks like the filly to beat in the Juvenile Fillies Turf. Already with 6 starts and having won the Debutante Stakes a Group 2 event, and finishing 3rd in the Moyglare Stud Stakes, a Group 1 event, she look's like a proven filly against a basically unproven group of contenders. · 130 days ago
After taking a sabbatical from training for nearly a year in 2005 and ’06, trainer Ken McPeek figured he would need three years for his stable to completely bounce back. McPeek may outdo himself in meeting that projection. He picked up his first Keeneland Race Course training title with 17 winners d...Read More
The favorite from the Oak Leaf Stakes (gr. I) at Santa Anita, where the Breeders' Cup World Championships will be run, is in the field for the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (gr. I) on Nov. 6. So, too, is the favorite from the Darley Alcibiades (gr. I) at Keeneland, which is also run on a...Read More
Misremembered, the winner of two Grade 2 stakes for 3-year-olds this year, will skip the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile at Santa Anita on Nov. 7 and be pointed to the $400,000 Clark Handicap at Churchill Downs on Nov. 27, trainer Bob Baffert said on Saturday.Read More
Trainer Ken McPeek said Oct. 16 that he will send his Breeders' Cup quarter to Santa Anita on Oct. 19. A win or second-place effort in your final Breeders' Cup prep is reason enough to move on to the big event. But when you run fifth, well . . . Read More
  • medlocke · Even finishing 5th, Beautician is a decent 2yr.old filly with some promise. She'll probably improve with age. But in the juvenile filly division this year at the Breeders Cup, if she brings her "A" game to the table, I don't look for any of them to catch "Hot Dixie Chick." She has excellent tactical speed and can really open up when called on. She run's very smart, more like a 3yr.old than a 2yr.old. · 149 days ago
  • gardenesque1 · Note that Beautician will not have to face Hot Dixie Chick in the Cup because the latter is not going to Santa Anita. According to assistant trainer Scott Blasi, Spinaway (gr. I) winner Hot Dixie Chick will be given some time off and probably will start back at the end of November at Fair Grounds. · 148 days ago
