What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Beamer...

Travelin Man, a comfortable winner of the seven furlong Swale Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park on April 3, takes on eight other 3-year-olds in Saturday's Derby Trial (G3) from Churchill Downs. Todd Pletcher's fleet son of Trippi romped in his six furlong Florida debut in January and was made the overw...Read More

Kentucky Derby contender   workouts for today (Monday, April 4)  (with HRN Derby rankings):   Today's Derby contender works included a strong six furlong move from impressive Rebel Stakes winner The Factor. Bob Baffert’s fleet colt is expected to make his next start in the April...Read More
Sam Davis show finisher Watch Me Go turned the tables on Brethren to win Saturday's Tampa Bay Derby (G3). Brethren sat an outside stalking trip in the Sam Davis but Ramon Dominguez sent him after the lead through reasonable fractions of :23.73, :48.20, and 1:12.60 with Watch Me Go and Crimson Knight...Read More
With Uncle Mo scheduled to run in Gulfstream Park’s Timely Writer Stakes, the Tampa Bay Derby (G-2) is a showdown between the big hoss, Brethren vs. the foes he handily defeated in the Sam F. Todd Pletcher entered Brethren and Uncle Mo in Saturday’s Tampa Bay Derby but the latter is expected to start in the one-mile Timely Writer at Gulfstream Park instead. The Tampa Bay Downs crowd will be disappointed that the 2-year-old champ is running in Hallandale but Brethren is no slouch. The Wi...Read More
Todd is lucky that Flashpoint is not there to run, it would have spoiled his day & stats. Really!
Several 2011 Kentucky Derby hopefuls worked on Monday including To Honor And Serve, Machen, Wilkinson, Silver Medallion, and Runflatout. Read More
  • cigar · To Honor And Serve is likely facing a tough group in the Florida Derby, that is pretty salty with speed. Dialed In might be the one to watch in that one. · 810 days ago ·

  • ajump08 · Any word if Neil Howard's two colts, Mahcen and Wilkinson, worked together. The time was the same, and I like to know who the trainer puts on the outside in these sort of works. The one on the outside is typically the better of the two, best example of this is the Uncle Mo, Stay Thirsty tandem. The San Felipe is probably going to be the hardest prep race to handicap we've seen or will see, with a mixed combination of proven talent, unexperienced promise, early speed, and late speed. I expect the pace to be hot, probably the best case scenario for Jaycito, but he'll still have to pass a lot of very talented colts on a speed biased track. The San Felipe will probably be one of those races we will look back at this Summer and say "wow, look at all of the talent that came from that race". As for the other "real" prep this Saturday, the Tampa Bay Derby, the field is actually looking a bit weak. Again led by Brethren, and I'd say the next most likely colt to make an impact down the road is the rapidly improving Nafzger colt, Beamer. Unless Uncle Mo is forced to jump ship, it looks like it could be another walk over for Brethren. · 810 days ago ·

  • ArturoLaguna · Just curious what equine/handicapping credentials Mr. dubby30 possess to question the training methods of Bob Baffert . With 3 Kentucky Derby wins to his name and several other winners in the other legs of the triple, Baffert's training modus operandi seem to work. As Steve Haskins of The Bloodhorse wrote: "Leave the training to the trainers" · 816 days ago ·

  • 12 Clip · Astrology runs like a plodder. I don't even think he's worth talking about at the present moment. I don't think there is anybody in Steve Asmussen's stable that will be good enough to even make the Derby this season. Steve is a great trainer, and his horses are still getting used to their environment in So. Cal. As for Bob Baffert, it's a known fact that he likes to get the most out of his horses in the morning. Whether that's a waste of a horse is obviously up for debate. It's hard to knock Bafferts production in the 3-year-old series over the past two decades. · 815 days ago ·

  • ajump08 · No problem, Awesome Patriot is cut out to be a good one. Beat Riveting Reason in an Allowance, RR most recently was nosed out of winning the Robet B. Lewis. This may be Baffert's biggest Derby hope actually, unless Jaycito overcomes the adversity that's surrounded him thus far in his career: bolting in BC Juvenile, trainer change, missed works, missed races, and eventually not running untill at least March. · 823 days ago ·

It just goes to show you how fragile life is on the Derby trail, metaphorically, of course. The thud came for Tapizar when a knee chip was discovered following his meltdown in the Robert B. ...Read More
