  • rossington · @Brian Zipse, I very much agree!! Losing Banned was a tough blow for American turf racing. Gio Ponti's pretty much carried the banner for American turf racing almost single handed for the past 2 or 3 seasons. But I felt like Banned may have been the one young American turf prospect that could've been capable of taking that banner off of Gio Ponti's shoulders, and carrying it forward himself. A tragic loss to a talented horse, indeed. · 599 days ago ·

Wow, what an eventful week in horse racing... we lost some, like Rahy, Crystal Lily, Slip Anchor, and Bearpath. We saw the greatness of Dick Turpin, Pomeroy's Pistol, Future Prospect, and Derby Kitten. We saw the rebirth of To Honor and Serve. and in Hansen, we get a glimpse of how good the future can be. So to those we love, those we've lost, and those who give us hope, thanks for a great week!!
  • medlocke · @shores, I saw the replay of the G1 Premio Vittorio Di Capua from Italy, and Dick Turpin was very lucky to have been able to run down Cityscape on the wire, and beat him literally on the bob. Steve Drown timed the fraction's just right I felt, and really did a great job stealing the break on Dick Turpin aboard Cityscape in that race. Soumillon had to really get after Dick Turpin to run Cityscape down!! But I would imagine Richard Hannon and Roger Charlton will both be very pleased with what they saw out of their respective horses in that race. · 607 days ago ·

  • medlocke · Truly, all the best to Banned and his connection's. Really hope Banned comes through his surgery well, and eventually makes a meaningful enough recovery to stand stud somewhere? Losing Banned is tough loss for American turf racing. I felt like Banned was possibly the one coming up that would eventually take over Gio Ponti's roll as having carried the banner for American turf racing over the past 3 seasons. In my eyes, Banned certainly convinced me that he was a G1 level, middle distance turf horse by finishing only a 1-1/2 length's behind Treasure Beach in the G1 Secretariat Stakes. Treasure Beach was a very good gauge for Banned, as your talking about a 3yr.old that not only was a G1 Irish Derby winner at 12f, but just missed by a nose being a G1 Epsom Derby winner over the same distance as well. Best wishes for a speedy recovery for a classy horse!! · 608 days ago ·

From the President of Glen Hill Farm, Craig Bernick: "Banned made it through the night, surgery will likely be tomorrow morning, maybe this afternoon."
is scheduled to have surgery either this afternoon or tommorow.
There is still a 20% chance (they said) that he makes it!!! come on, banned, fight!!! you can do it!!!
Turf star Banned was injured today in a workout ... waiting for more word on the severity of the injury.

  • medlocke · @BrianZipse, That's not good news at all. I hope it's something that Banned recovers quickly from? Because he definitely looks one of, if not the best American hopeful in one of the Breeders Cup turf races this year. · 610 days ago ·

  • likin sparks · Such bad news, unless there has been a mis-diagnosis of the injury breaking both sesamoids are catatrophic. I would expect euthaniization unfortunately. Lets hope and pray for the best. · 610 days ago ·

  • icyhotboo · Again I don't mind a disagreement especially when I can learn something from it, well remember what I already knew would be more appropriate. I never owned a thoroughbred but I did have many standardbreds starting with a $1,000 claimer in 1970. As the years went by I along with partners claimed, bought outright, and went to the yearling sales in search of that one really good horse that we never found. I mention this only because we exclusively followed the trail of Meadow Skipper and descendants and that's where my "crap shoot" statement comes from along with "genetics". A genuine captain Ahab I was chasing Moby Dick. Whenever genetics comes up I lose my perspective. Thanks for your input. · 649 days ago ·

  • tiznow · Stacelita impressed me by bounds, she was a single to me and proved she was much the best in there. However, watching the Sec again, I believe strongly Banned may have been the best horse in there. I can't wait to watch his next out. And even though Gio couldn't get it done, it was a great race and my first Million visit was astonishing to say the least. · 648 days ago ·

  • medlocke · This colt has really and truly come into his own this season. His class told in Saturday's Secretariat Stakes. I don't think anyone would dispute that Banned and Wilcox Inn are 2 of the premier 3yr.old turf horses in America, and Treasure Beach handled both of them with a bit in hand. The other Euro horse representing the Aga Khan, Ziyarid, was really the only threat to Treasure Beach in the race. Treasure Beach is just another in long, long line of multiple graded and group stakes winning champion's sired year after year by the great Galileo. I.E. Treasure Beach, Cape Blanco, Frankel, Misty For Me, Seville, Rip Van Winkle, and Roderic O'Connor have all been sired by Galileo just over the past few seasons in Ireland. · 649 days ago ·
