Mad Flatter, ridden by Jon Court, took command of the six-horse field on the backstretch and never looked back while winning Sunday’s $51,284 featured allowance race at Churchill Downs by 1 ¾ lengths over Moe Man.   Trained by Jeff Thornbury, Mad Flatter ran 1 1/16 miles over a fast main track ...Read More

Awsome Act has been training at the Fair Grounds, and his last work was going a half mile in 50 4/5. Nothing that I know of was said of his next start but maybe the fair ground stakes race for older horses this spring.

Awesome Act was my pick for the Kentucky Derby and I apologize to anyone who took my advice and bet their lunch money on him. I still think he has great promise--the First Saturday in May just wasn't his Saturday. He had a rough trip in the Wood Memorial, when he pulled a shoe leaving...Read More
The performance of the week was turned in by Fly Down in the Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park. The promising Nick Zito runner earned a 100 BSF for his romping off the pace win over Drosselmeyer and must be viewed as a major player in the Belmont Stakes. Zito also has Derby runner-up Ice Box...Read More
Up — TV ratings: The Derby overnights were the best they had been since 1992, the year Lil E. Tee won the Run for the Roses. Not sure the reason for the increase, especially considering the expected favorite, Eskendereya, dropped out the weekend before with an injury. Nevertheless, the numbers bear ...Read More

Trainer Alexis Barba expressed pleasure with both the performance of MAKE MUSIC FOR ME (Bernstein) and the manner in which the bay colt came out of his late-closing, fourth-place finish in Saturday's Kentucky Derby (G1) at Churchill Downs.Read More
I don’t usually handicap races in advance on my blog, mostly because well, hell, your hot air and ill-considered opinions are worth more or less exactly the same as mine. Put another way, any moron can look at tomorrow’s Derby and say something like “Lookin’ at Lucky blah blah blah.”Read More
Not too long ago, it appeared that everyone would be touting Eskendereya as a possible Triple Crown winner following what was expected to be another brilliant victory following his romps in the Fountain Of Youth and the Wood Memorial. Unfortunately, things don't always work out the way they...Read More
Slop, the great equalizer. As if this year’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) isn’t equal enough, we’re about to get bombarded with a prolonged rain unlike anything the Derby has ever seen.Read More
According to Weather.Com there is an 80% chance of precipitation on Saturday at Churchill Downs. With an abundance of rain threatening to turn the dirt track into a sea of slop, I ventured online to track down which horses will enjoy an off track - - and I have great news: ALL of the contenders...Read More
