Older Comments about Australia...

From AtTheRaces.com: Though no longer among the 18 entries left for the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at 12f, it has been decided that Australia will be dropped back in trip with his next target set to be the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes over 10-1/2f at York on August 20th and if all goes well at York he will then run in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes at 10f in September.
rolls on home in the Irish Derby!

  • paul.nathan.946 · Although impressive we have learned nothing apart from we know hes stud fee has risen.. O'brien isn't going to run horses that could trouble the future built up monster stallion. · 1003 days ago
  • jonquil · O'Brien doesn't make the decisions on which horses run, the "Lads" do. He's said it many a time - he just makes the quick decision on which won't run. · 1003 days ago
This just posted on AtTheRaces.com: Australia will not run in the G1 Irish Derby if the ground is testing. If he misses the Irish Derby, perhaps we'll see him a week later at Sandown, taking on older horses for the first time in the G1 Coral-Eclipse?
  • ILuvTurfRacing · That's the same thing John Oxx did with the great Sea The Stars in 2009. Oxx felt like the ground at the Curragh for the Irish Derby was too soft for Sea The Stars, so he brought him to Sandown a week later for the G1 Coral-Eclipse and the rest is history. · 1020 days ago
Epsom Derby winner Australia and Derby 2nd Kingston Hill, along with Epsom Oaks winner Taghrooda are among 35 horses entered for the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on July 26th. In total, there were 11 3yo among the 35 total entries for Great Britain's most prestigious all age flat race.

  • Euro Trash · I hope he does also. · 1021 days ago
  • EP Taylor · This is going to be a great race this year. I still think Taghrooda is the best 3 year old running middle distances over there. With the weight break she could quite possibly pull this win off against older horses. · 1020 days ago
If he's as good as has been advertised, it should be no excuses ground for Australia in the G1 Epsom Derby coming up in just a few minuets.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · I'm anxious to see now what direction O'Brien goes with Australia next? I'm relatively certain we won't see Australia at Ascot during the upcoming Royal Meeting, but beyond that there's the G1 Irish Derby over 12f again on June 28th at the Curragh or he could drop Australia back in trip to 10f for the G1 Coral-Eclipse at Sandown on July 5th. I would think we'll surely see Australia next in one of those two G1 races, IMO. · 1025 days ago
  • Euro Trash · Any report on whether Geoffrey Chaucer came out of the race well? I hope it is just a bad race and not an injury · 1025 days ago
Trainer Aidan O'Brien told the Racing Post today that he'll be sending 4 horses to Epsom to represent Coolmore in this year's G1 Epsom Derby. O'Brien said son Joseph will ride Australia and Ryan Moore will then have first choice among their 3 entries Geoffrey Chaucer, G3 Chester Vase winner Orchestra, or Dee Stakes winner Kingfisher. On a personal note, I think it's stinks that Adelaide won't get a shot at Epsom. Beaten only a 1/2 length in the G2 Prix Hocquart at Longchamp on his seasonal debut and then came back to put an easy 3 lengths on stablemate Mekong River to win the G3 Gallinule Stakes at the Curragh. I would personally back Adelaide over any of Coolmore's Derby entries save Australia. JMO.
Where is he?

  • EP Taylor · I LOVE the sire, and LOVE the Dam. But it would take a miracle for any horse to beat Kingman in the English Guineas. This is the one I would expect bigger things come Derby time. · 1068 days ago
  • EP Taylor · take that with a grain of salt....the mircale part. · 1068 days ago
Now when Aiden O'Brien says that this is the best horse they have owned....you know that says something. We will see soon how this one fairs, but that is quite the statement. http://www.independent.ie/sport/horse-racing/aidan-obrien-australia-is-a-dream-horse-29564559.html

  • Northport · You have to take that with a grain of salt. While Ballydoyle has some of the nicest horses going through its stables, each year they declare a new horse the "best they have ever had". It was Camelot, then before that, St Nicholas Abbey, etc etc. · 1162 days ago
  • Sullivan · Being another St. Nick or Camelot isn't all that bad · 1162 days ago
Chomping at the bit to see this one race as a 3yo in 2014!! Talk about impeccably bred, it doesn't get any better than a combination Galileo, the top sire in the world, and Ouija Board, one of the all-time great champion middle distance fillies to ever race in Europe and beyond. Given his middle distance breeding, I don't know if Aidan O'Brien will point Australia at the G1 English 2000 Guineas or not since he has a horse like War Command he can send to Newmarket that would likely go off as race favorite. But I can sure see this colt being a force in the G1 Epsom Derby at 12f come June. Perhaps a stop at York first for a prep in the G2 Dante Stakes at 10-1/2f to make certain Australia is sharp for Epsom?
I thought Australia put forth one of the most impressive performances of the day winning the Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf Trial Stakes by 6 lengths when you consider how highly thought of and hyped Free Eagle was coming into the race as the ante-post favorite for the 2014 Epsom Derby. Australia punched his ticket to the BC Juvenile Turf via this win, and as supportive as Coolmore have been of that race it's hard to believe they won't take advantage of his "win and your in" slot. If Australia shows up at Santa Anita in November, I predict a 3rd straight win in the BC Juvenile Turf for Aidan O'Brien and Coolmore. JMO.
  • paul.nathan.946 · does not strike me as a horse that would run in the bc juvi he looks like one of obriens top derby hopes and he does not tend to send the better ones over · 1297 days ago
  • Northport · I had the same thought. This one has a bit too much class to be sent over, but I could definitely see O'Brien winning it again with one of the others · 1296 days ago
Well done Galileo and Ouiji Board, well done!
Such a huge fan of Ouija board. Nice to see her Colt by Galileo win impressively and Roll on to the Derby!
The royally bred son of Galileo & Ouija Board breaks his maiden on his second career start 3 weeks after finishing 2nd his first time out.

  • paul.nathan.946 · i was impressed by the second and the obrien second string too could turn out to be a very strong maiden next year. · 1346 days ago
  • ILuvTurfRacing · Aidan O'Brien has Australia pre-entered in the G3 Tyros Stakes over 7f at Leopardstown on July 25th next. I hope they run him in stakes company next time out. · 1346 days ago
Second by a short head in his much anticipated debut today at The Curraugh. Unfortunate start for him, surely would have won if not for the start. I suspect brillance ahead for this son of Ouija Board and Galileo....
  • amino998 · Early start for royalty, hoping he'll seek firm turf in November__oops :) · 1366 days ago
  • buckpasser · Will be rooting for him. The son of one of my favorite horses, Ouija Board. · 1366 days ago
