Older Comments about Arab Spring...

After back to back wins in the Jorvick Handicap at York and Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at Ascot, and a perfect 4 for 4 record to date in 2014, Arab Spring will make the jump from handicap to patent stakes level on Thursday in the G2 Princess of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket(July). He's an overwhelming 3-2 favorite in the race with the international exchanges with stablemate Hillstar the 3-1 second choice and Dandino, Cavalryman, & Pether's Moon 8-1 co-third choices. If Arab Spring wins the Princess of Wales Stakes, and I believe he will, I would expect to see Sir Michael Stoute enter him in the G1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes on July 26th. Stoute has never been shy about running more than one horse from his yard at a time in the King George. In 2009 he had Conduit, Tartan Bearer, & Ask in the field and in 2010 he had Harbinger & Workforce. I suspect he'll have Telescope, Arab Spring, and possibly Hillstar all 3 in this year's King George field, IMO.

  • ILuvTurfRacing · Thanks to all for the kind well wishes. Just happy everything didn't go the other way, and believe me icyhotboo, I plan on following the Dr.'s instructions to the letter. Have been fighting some med drowsiness from the med's since I got home though. Thanks again all. Always look forward to keeping the "conversation lively" on this web-site!! LOL. · 264 days ago
  • ILuvTurfRacing · @Euro Trash & jonquil, In regard to Geoffrey Chaucer, it wasn't as much anyone verbally hyping him per say as it was his seeming to always be sent out as being the stable's #2 middle distance 3yo behind Australia of course, and he just simply hasn't produced anything close to that. In my view, even though he's had a string of 2nd place finishes, I personally think you can make a strong argument for Adelaide being O'Brien's second best middle distance 3yo right now, but TJMO. · 264 days ago
I've been very impressed by what I've seen out of Arab Spring in his 5 career starts to date so far. Much the best in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap at Ascot during the royal meeting, and prior to that he had won a couple of nice handicaps at Doncaster & York carrying top weight in all of them, so I'd imagine a step up into patent stakes company is inevitable in the very near future for this good looking son of Monsun. Ballymacoll Stud's racing manager said the Australians have been trying hard to buy this horse, but he said Sir Michael Stoute had told them back in the spring not to sell and hang on to Arab Spring for a European campaign.
  • jonquil · Thank goodness they didn't sell. There's a horse I'm watching now that I know was going to go to the sales ring, but I'm hoping his owner has changed their mind. I dread who might buy him. · 281 days ago
Won the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes!
  • ILuvTurfRacing · Much the best in the Duke of Edinburgh Handicap. 4 straight wins now for Arab Spring, 3 of them in handicap company, and he won today's race off a mark of 104, which I believe was top weight in the race. Wouldn't be surprised to see Sir Michael Stoute step Arab Spring up in class to pattern stakes company soon. · 282 days ago
