What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Apart...

I continue my week of writing the Super Derby notes and articles for Harrah’s Louisiana Downs today, with a piece on the winner of the local prep, Holiday Mischief. While there have not been many Prelude winners to also win the Super Derby, the two that did are noteworthy. In 1991, Free Spirit's Joy...Read More

In only a third of a century, the Super Derby has developed a rich and proud history. Many of the finest three-year-olds in American racing have ventured down to compete in the key end-of-summer event. Because of this, I was honored when asked to write the Super Derby notes and articles for Harrah’s...Read More

  • illhaveanothertriplecrown · Pretty good roster, I really like Hero of Order, Bourbon Courage and Nehro. I also think Mark Valeski and Macho Macho are pretty solid as well. Good for all of you that have an opportunity to go down to Fairgrounds and see these horses live. If only we had horses like this up here. · 443 days ago ·
Adele Dilschneider’s Apart, best known for winning the Grade II Super Derby at Louisiana Downs two years and two months ago, has been installed the tepid 3-1 choice when he heads a well-matched field of nine in Saturday’s featured 48th running of the $75,000 Tenacious Handicap at Fair Grounds. • DeadHeat · Rail Trip has never struck me as a slow horse, especially when he ran 1.40 and change for 8.5f last out ;) Look for a horse you know has the tactical speed to rate but will be the closer to the pace, 5 or 6 from the front. Saratoga is deep and tiring, more than some other tracks in the US, so when a horse looks like it is running slow, it is probably running evenly, when it is running evenly it's probably running fast, and when your going fast your burning up the track. · 990 days ago ·

We're riding now at Saratoga Race Course, 11 days into the summer meet. This is where I started, and it's where I won my first race in 2005, so I always feel at home every time I come back. The first year I came here, I was working for Patrick Biancone. I was actually supposed to ride my first race ...Read More
Charles “Scooter” Dickey, trainer of Flat Out (No. 1, 4-1) by telephone: “The post position doesn’t make any difference to him. I like my chances, and the horse is doing well. Trainer Al Stall made the most of his 13 starts last year at Saratoga, winning four races, including the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap with Blame and taking a maiden special weight with J. • MichaelPavelick · Pool Play is going in my virtual stable. He was probably about 10 wide or MORE at the quarter pole. · 1036 days ago ·
  • ruffian75 · When I was actually watching the race live, I thought there was interference. But,when I saw the replay, Pool Play cut in on Giant Oak's path, for he was ahead of him, but, it looked as though Gomez recognized immediately, and veered out. It looked as though it broke Giant Oak's run, but he might not have caught Pool Play anyway. Probably cost him 2nd or 3rd. · 1036 days ago ·
