  • yukichan · Should add: Military Attack (Ire), g, 5 is trained by John Moore and was ridden by the young and talented Australian jockey Tommy Berry. Military Attack was a recent winner in the Hong Kong Gold Cup at Sha Tin on Feb. 24 and the 1800m Premier Plate H. carrying 133 pds. Mar. 24. This is Berry's first venture abroad -- so far so very good for the 22 yr old! · 52 days ago ·

  • AmbitiousD · That was a great race! Congrats to Military Attack, he is really developing into quite a horse. I was very impressed with the finish by Sajjhaa considering she missed the start. And as for Ambitious Dragon, he was sure coming with quite a rush before being interfered with...but thats racing. I wonder if Millard will wheel him back next week for the Champion's Mile? · 52 days ago ·

Recovering from a rear leg injury earlier than expected, Ambitious Dragon is entered in the G1 Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup on Sunday. A step back in distance to 7 furlongs, has him set to face his main rival, Glorious Days, in their 5th matchup of the season and HK sprinting champion Lucky Nine. Should be a great race.
  • AmbitiousD · He just demolished the field. Glorious Days finishes 3rd. Beating some of Hong Kong's best sprinters at anything less than his best distance just shows why he is the back to back Horse of the Year. When he is on his game, he is near unbeatable. · 94 days ago ·

After suffering a minor injury in his 4th place finish in the Steward's Cup, Ambitious Dragon has been given some time to recover and is now targeting the APQEII Cup (April 28th) or the Champions Mile (May 5th) for his return to racing.
Ambitious Dragon will be taking on Glorious Days for the 4th time the Hong Kong Stewards Cup (G1) at 1 mile on turf on Sunday. The duo have finished first/second in all three of their races this year, with the Dragon holding the edge with 2 wins. Glorious Days single win in the rivalry has come at a 5 lb weight advantage. They will race under equal weights on Sunday. Best of luck to both horses and safe trips to all competitors.

  • AmbitiousD · Looks like there is no clear path forward for the Dragon. I found this article, which was written before this last race, so plans may change now. I'll keep digging. Glorious Days could be pointed toward the Yasuda Kinen in Japan in June. http://www.scmp.com/sport/racing/article/1128841/triple-crown-talk-presumptuous-insists-dragons-trainer-millard · 148 days ago ·

  • AmbitiousD · Yukichan, unfortunately I was not able to make this trip this year, but I have friends that are there and I will be on the phone with them during the races...Next best thing I suppose. ILTR, Cirrus was out with a mild tendon issue, but the trainer is optimistic about a return next year. Sweet Orange came up a little lame in his front right leg yesterday, so they decided to scratch. · 194 days ago ·

He's Back! Scored an impressive season debut win in the 1 mile Sha Tin Trophy (G2). Stopping the clock in 1:33.58 over a good/firm course, the reigning horse of the year is off to the right start to defend his title for a third straight year. Next up is the Jockey Club Mile as a final prep for the Hong Kong International Races in December.
The back to back Hong Kong Horse of the Year is set to start the new season in Sunday's Hong Kong Trophy - G2 at a mile on the Sha Tin turf. He is listed as the high weight at 133 lbs spotting up to 21lbs to some of the field. Liberator, who was last seen upsetting Ambitious Dragon and denying him the Hong Kong Triple Crown, has a 14 lb advantage

  • furlong · tv, the handicap system is very unique here. Weights are set by horse ratings, which are determined by a horses performance. It definitely gives motivations for trainers to get their horses into the higher classes to get the weight breaks. Every handicap race will have a weight range of 115-132lbs. They also get significant weight breaks depending on the experience level of the jockeys as well. I've done OK betting here, but never spectacular. I'm still trying to figure out their multi-race exotics. We have a pick-6 they have a "triple trio" where you have to pick the trifecta of 3 straight races. · 337 days ago ·

  • AmbitiousD · And for all those following, I think I showed my dog Hunter too many replays of this year's Kentucky Derby. He did his best reenactment of Union Rags. Completely botched the start, got moving late, but not enough to win. I think I know how Matz must have felt. · 388 days ago ·

After a disappointing 4th place finish in the BMW Champions Mile, there was a bit of a fallout between the trainer, Tony Millard and HK champion jockey Doug Whyte. Its a shame that the trainer is blaming the loss on the Whyte's ride, which was the result of an infraction from another horse (that jockey was suspended for 3 days). The country's focus is on a soap opera, rather than the next steps for the horse. Either way, it looks like he wont be racing again until the fall, and yet another year will pass without a HK Triple Crown winner, and when he returns he will have to find a replacement rider for the best jockey in Hong Kong.
