Older Comments about Ambitious Dragon...

2 time Hong Kong horse of the year, Ambitious Dragon is back in training under the care of Tony Millard after taking 7 months off to recover from a ligament injury. No timetable for a return to racing has been mentioned yet.
I was wondering where Ambitous Dragon was, and found this article from October, if anyone is interested - http://www.scmp.com/sport/racing/article/1336144/give-injured-ambitious-dragon-time-heal-says-trainer-millard
Recovering from a rear leg injury earlier than expected, Ambitious Dragon is entered in the G1 Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup on Sunday. A step back in distance to 7 furlongs, has him set to face his main rival, Glorious Days, in their 5th matchup of the season and HK sprinting champion Lucky Nine. Should be a great race.
  • AmbitiousD · He just demolished the field. Glorious Days finishes 3rd. Beating some of Hong Kong's best sprinters at anything less than his best distance just shows why he is the back to back Horse of the Year. When he is on his game, he is near unbeatable. · 1499 days ago
  • AmbitiousD · Here's a link to the replay. http://racing.hkjc.com/racing/video/play.asp?type=replay-full&date=20130317&no=07&lang=eng# · 1499 days ago
After suffering a minor injury in his 4th place finish in the Steward's Cup, Ambitious Dragon has been given some time to recover and is now targeting the APQEII Cup (April 28th) or the Champions Mile (May 5th) for his return to racing.
Ambitious Dragon will be taking on Glorious Days for the 4th time the Hong Kong Stewards Cup (G1) at 1 mile on turf on Sunday. The duo have finished first/second in all three of their races this year, with the Dragon holding the edge with 2 wins. Glorious Days single win in the rivalry has come at a 5 lb weight advantage. They will race under equal weights on Sunday. Best of luck to both horses and safe trips to all competitors.

  • AmbitiousD · Looks like there is no clear path forward for the Dragon. I found this article, which was written before this last race, so plans may change now. I'll keep digging. Glorious Days could be pointed toward the Yasuda Kinen in Japan in June. http://www.scmp.com/sport/racing/article/1128841/triple-crown-talk-presumptuous-insists-dragons-trainer-millard · 1553 days ago
  • rafirox · Thanks for the info, AmbitiousD. · 1553 days ago
Powers home to win the Hong Kong Mile. So glad he wasn't scratched. Glorious Days second

He's Back! Scored an impressive season debut win in the 1 mile Sha Tin Trophy (G2). Stopping the clock in 1:33.58 over a good/firm course, the reigning horse of the year is off to the right start to defend his title for a third straight year. Next up is the Jockey Club Mile as a final prep for the Hong Kong International Races in December.
The back to back Hong Kong Horse of the Year is set to start the new season in Sunday's Hong Kong Trophy - G2 at a mile on the Sha Tin turf. He is listed as the high weight at 133 lbs spotting up to 21lbs to some of the field. Liberator, who was last seen upsetting Ambitious Dragon and denying him the Hong Kong Triple Crown, has a 14 lb advantage
Crowned Hong Kong Horse of the Year for the second consecutive year. Congrats to the connections of this wonderful gelding.
After a disappointing 4th place finish in the BMW Champions Mile, there was a bit of a fallout between the trainer, Tony Millard and HK champion jockey Doug Whyte. Its a shame that the trainer is blaming the loss on the Whyte's ride, which was the result of an infraction from another horse (that jockey was suspended for 3 days). The country's focus is on a soap opera, rather than the next steps for the horse. Either way, it looks like he wont be racing again until the fall, and yet another year will pass without a HK Triple Crown winner, and when he returns he will have to find a replacement rider for the best jockey in Hong Kong.
Now that the derby is over its time focus on other things...like Ambitious Dragon trying to get revenge at Cityscape in the BMW Champions mile in Hong Kong
He was found to have a fever in his post race checkup after to Duty Free. Get well soon my old friend, I want to see you healthy and happy again
Looks like all things are go for Saturday. I can't wait to watch him run against some of the best. http://www.emirates247.com/sports/other/ambitious-dragon-set-for-dubai-duty-free-2012-03-28-1.450880
2 weeks until Dubai!! I can't wait
My boy is racing tonight in the second leg of the Hong Kong triple crown. Best of luck to him in the 10f Hong Kong Gold Cup!!
From Dubairacenight.com: After beating Xtension and California Memory, barely off the bridal, over the weekend at Sha Tin in the Stewards Cup, it's just been announced that it's possible Ambitious Dragon will run in the G1 Dubai Duty Free on world cup night on March 31st!!!
He's back to his winning ways showing another impressive turn of foot, easily pulling away in the first leg of the Hong Kong Triple Crown, the 8f Steward's Cup.
Entries are posted for the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International Races. If even 1 or 2 big name internationals show up in the Hong Kong Cup to face off against the Dragon I will be extremely excited. http://www.hkjc.com/english/corporate/racing_news_item.asp?in_file=/english/news/2011-10/news_2011101801448.html
Finished second in Jockey Club Mile.
  • AmbitiousD · Still great, even in the loss by a nose. Gave 5 lbs to the winner and was 4 wide through the entire turn. Overall, I think the prep will be great for the Hong Kong International Cup in December · 1979 days ago
My boy is getting some love in the worldwide thoroughbred rankings! Up to 18th and starting to mix it with some well known names. http://www.horseracingintfed.com/resources/2011Rankings/2011_1020_WTR.asp
