  • travel_vic · McCarron was a good fit to Alysheba. In his Breeder;s Cup win, Chris read the biased Churchill strip and took the animal in the three path, where is was much faster....All of the winnig rides that day came from out there and not on the rail · 15 days ago ·

Say what you will about how the pace unfolded in yesterday’s Super Derby, but one thing you cannot deny is that the winner is a horse on a roll … and a Derby roll at that. • DeadHeat · He has not overly impressed me. It is easy to rack up wins when the competition you face is so inferior to you. I'm glad he is taking his game to a new level, but I don't see him hitting the board in the Classic. · 148 days ago ·

I wish someone could answer two questions I have concerning Alysheba. 1. How come he isn't more respected, especially after his impressive 4th year, when he broke so many track records. 2. How can they know if he was going to be a good sire, almost all his sons were gilded; especially seeing that now he has some respect as a broodmare sire?
Monmouth Park gives the grade 1 Haskell Invitational the tag line, “Where champions prove their greatness”. In the past four runnings...Read More

  • Mike in SB · Great blog, Silver Charm and Free House were two of my favorite horses, but I don't consider Silver Charm an eastern horse, he was trained and stabled in California and ran the majority of his races in California. I believe the best East-West rivalry of the 1980's was Sunday Silence and Easy Goer. · 210 days ago ·

  • skipaway2000 · I think the best rivalry that actually happened in the 2000's was among the Class of 2007 - Street Sense, Curlin, Hard Spun (& to a lesser extent Any Given Saturday) beat up on each other all year, in all of the major 3yo races. They all even showed up in the BC Classic. That's a great rivalry. Nice work on the retrospective :) · 210 days ago ·

I was looking at Alysheba and noticed after the preakness He went on a 3 race losing skid. Imagine if the handlers would have retired this horse . If this were today Alysheba would heve been retired and thought to be wore out from the grueling triple crown. I think modern day trainers should realize a couple of losses doesnt mean that horse is done or burned out . Just a thought.
With all the excitement of the recently completed Triple Crown, I have not had a chance to venture into the racing laboratory of late. I put a stop to that trend late last night. I put on my racing lab coat, turned on the Bunsen burners, started mixing potions, and tested any and all hypothesis that...Read More

  • Thoroughbred44 · Yes JamminPark, horses love attention! Especially thoroughbreds, the pawing was a way for Z to get rid of stress and she did it her own way to show off, it's like Secretariat's posing. Horses know what they're doing (most the time) after Secretariat lost a race he would go to the back of his stall and just "think" about it, and like JamminPark said, he'd go back and break a track record. Z was showing off (her own take on it) and she was calming herself. · 276 days ago ·

  • railbird1 · That long stretch at CD won't hurt his chances either. I think he has a decent shot considering his improving pattern and the increase in distance. Picking this years winner is going to be tough any way you look at it. The main saving grace being the price should be right on whoever you settle on. It will be a fun race to watch with the outcome so up for grabs. That being said a serious wager on this years Derby seems out of the question unless you're just a gambler.
