Akeed Mofeed has been retired and will stand at Lindsay Park Stud in Southern Australia. He knocked himself in his last prep gallop for the recent QEII Cup in Hong Kong. Having considered the time necessary for full recovery, his Hong Kong owner Pan Sutong decided to retire him after taking HKJC veterinary advice.
  • kaitlinefree1 · well darn. i was hoping to see him at the Arlington Million. · 536 days ago
  • AmbitiousD · Majorly bummed to not see him end on a win, but he'll have a wonderful retirement. The owner reportedly has 40 mares he wants to breed to Akeed Mofeed. · 536 days ago
Looks like Akeed Mofeed may be planning to visit Chicago for the Arlington Million.
Akeed Mofeed pulled up lame on Wednesday working over 6f on the all-weather at Sha Tin and will miss Sunday's G1 Audemars Piguest QE II Cup according to trainer Richard Gibson.
Trainer Richard Gibson has told the Racing Post that 2013 G1 Hong Kong Cup winner, Akeed Mofeed, has been confirmed for a trip to Dubai in March. Gibson said the only thing still up in the air is whether Akeed Mofeed will run in the G1 Dubai World Cup or the G1 Dubai Duty Free? Gibson said he'd personally prefer to see Akeed Mofeed race at the 2000 meters distance in the Dubai World Cup versus the 1800 meters in the Dubai Duty Free, but admits it's unclear whether he'll handle racing on the tapeta surface as well as he handles turf? I think Akeed Mofeed will lend a big element of class to either race and at his very best is more than capable of winning either race, IMO.
  • ILuvTurfRacing · Since both horses are trained by Richard Gibson and owned by the same connections, I think they should send Akeed Mofeed to run in the G1 Dubai World Cup and Gold-Fun to run in the G1 Dubai Duty Free. JMO. · 682 days ago
  • AmbitiousD · I hope he does well in Dubai. His owner has specially not had him gelded because of his pedigree and potential future as a stallion. This is very rare in Hong Kong, as there is no breeding industry. Have already won 2 of the most prestigious 2000m races in Hong Kong, a win in Dubai would make him a very desirable stallion prospect in either hemisphere. · 682 days ago
Akeed Mofeed wins the 2013 Hong Kong Derby at Sha Tin!!
Akeed Mofeed got his 1st win in Hong Kong today in his 3rd start at Sha Tin. He won the Taipa Handicap, a class 2 handicap for horses rated 80-105, beating several former European based horses in the races including Emperor Claudius, Beauty Lead(formerly Glaswegian), Silver Grecian, Free Judgement, Blazing Speed, Chater Dream(formerly Hard Dream), and Genki Twins(formerly Caledonian Spring). Akeed Mofeed is being pointed toward the upcoming Hong Kong Derby where he figures to be one of the favorites in the race.
Another promising European middle distance turf horse snatched up by new owners and gone off to race in Hong Kong. Akeed Mofeed had his second start for his new connections at Sha Tin today, finishing 6th in the Hong Kong Classic Cup. He finished 3rd in a Class 2 Handicap at Sha Tin in his first start in Hong Kong. These Hong Kong based owners are buying up so many promising European horses these days that you can't hardly keep up with who's gone off to Hong Kong and who's still left in Europe these days? More often than not, the new owners in Hong Kong change the names of the horses they buy in Europe, too. So that makes it even more difficult to keep track.
