Older Comments about Adelaide...

To the overseas guys and gals if any. Can you tell me what the overall opinion on your sie of the pond was over his race. Personally and with all respects to Mr. Spaker in the race. Adelaide was the much the best horse on this day and a hard luck loser. I just watched the replay of the running. He broke flat footed and gave up early ground. Down the backstretch the horse was a bit to keen to go on(jock did an amazing job settling him down) When he finally got into stride and moving well. H was basically put to a halt on the turn awaiting room to run. When he fired, that was an amazing turn of acceleration. When Mr. Speaker blew by him,i thought he would win the race by open lengths. Adelaide not only fought back,if the race were 5 yards longer. He would of won the race. Under the circumstances of so many races in suh a short span. Adelaide IMO was nothing less of Spectacular on this day. I sure hope they bring him back stateside for another shot. This time if they can space him a bit more conservatively.

  • Euro Trash · @tmallios, you are welcome. It is probably unlikely, as jonquil said, that any of them would be pointed to th Breeders Cup. But, if the end up disappointing in the Fall races, there would be a better chance. I could see the connections of The Grey Gatsby possibly targeting the Arlington Million, but as far as I know there has been no mention of it.. · 885 days ago
  • tmallios · Thanks Jonquil i will keep an eye out for her. I forgot to mention it to you. One of the people i was sitting with at Belmont on Saturday is a personal friend of the Australian trainer Waterhouse.I am really looking forward to seeing the Euros come over this year, normally i never pay attention to them. But in looking at the quality of American Turf racing at the top level only. It is very weak. Even in the Mile division,i think the Euros will capture the race this year. The horse in California is a very nice horse. But he is not the Star he is now being portrayed to be.What is the prognosis for the Million,is there a quality contingent scheduled to come over. Also if you look at the replay of the colt rce this past Saturday. Take a look at Sheldon,he was shut off twice in the stretch and got up for 5th place, missing 3rd by a tiny bit. Not bad for a horse going from Maidens to Grade1. Sheldon being a big horse is on the improve mentally and physically. Give him another couple of months and he will be beating the Americans that beat him the other day. · 885 days ago
I knew Aidan O'Brien had already mentioned awhile back he was strongly considering sending Adelaide over from Ireland for the G1 Secretariat Stakes on Arlington Million day, but I'm a little surprised he's turning up at Belmont for the Belmont Derby so soon off the back of a tough race in the G2 King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot 2 weeks ago. Still expect him to run a decent race though, and thoroughly expect Adelaide to be in the frame.

Over the past 2 weeks I think Adelaide has emerged as the 3yo for Aidan O'Brien that could make for a powerful double entry with Australia for Coolmore in the upcoming G1 Epsom Derby. 2 weeks ago he went into the G2 Prix Hocquart at Longchamp with only a Leopardstown maiden win under his belt and ran a cracking good 2nd, beaten only a 1/2 length by the winner Free Port Lux. Then he comes back today and wins the G3 Gallinule Stakes in a romp, putting an easy 3 lengths on stablemate Mekong River who was one of Coolmore's most highly regarded juveniles last season. Most of what I've been reading on the web coming from John Magnier seems to indicate Coolmore are pretty much putting all their eggs in Australia's basket for the Epsom Derby, and deservedly so I suppose. But based on his last 2 races I would hate see Adelaide miss his shot at running at Epsom to make it an easier road for Australia. I've always felt like they did that for Camelot in 2012 by keeping Imperial Monarch out of that Epsom Derby, IMO.
