What the Nation is saying about Acting Happy...

Two years ago, Acting Happy was one of the better three year-old fillies in the country. She won the Black Eyed Susan (G2) at Pimlico in May and followed that up with consecutive third-place finishes in a pair of G1 races: the Coaching Club Oaks and the Alabama, both at… Read More
The Grade 1 winner Rail Trip is on the comeback trail.Away from the races since finishing fifth in the Jockey Club Gold Cup, Rail Trip has breezed four times for trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. and is nearing a return to the races. Santa Anita Park is dark on Feb 16 so I’ll cover Wednesday’s program from Gulfstream Park on the blog today. 2010 Black Eyed Susan (G2) winner Acting Happy returns in the 3rd race and looks tough to beat under Ramon Dominguez. The 8th race marks the US debut of Crimson China. This one was originally...Read More
Gio Ponti has been caught nearing the wire three times during a tough-luck campaign in 2010. The dual champion finally had enough of that, this time doing a little catching of his own. Cutting back to one mile for the first time all year, Gio Ponti niftily split horses in deep stretch under Ramon Do...Read More

  • mdracing69 · Gio Ponti ran a nice race but was not the most impressive turf mile winner at Keeneland on Saturday. Proviso ran a bit faster and finished strong in her G1 First Lady triumph. She beat Grade 1 males at Santa Anita earlier this year. As for Gio Ponti, I agree that ten furlongs is his best distance and I would try the BC Classic. All it takes is a bad draw and his Mile hopes would be dashed. · 592 days ago ·

  • cugel the clever · Tough spot for this horse, but I think he has a better shot at the BC Mile. Turf is his best surface and he's probably the #3 ranked tuf miler right now, behind Goldikova and Proviso. So, with racing luck, he stands a chance in the BC Mile. But, for the BC Classic, he's definately an outsider. He couldn't beat Z last year in the Classic on polytrack; so what chance does he have on dirt against Z and a much stronger field of males than last year's Classic. All of Z, QR, Blame, LAL, and Haynesfield ave better shots in the Classic that Gio Ponti. · 591 days ago ·

Rail Trip continued his preparations for the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on October 2 with a brisk six-furlong breeze on the Saratoga main track Saturday morning.   Working in company with Eagle Strike, Rail Trip covered the distance in 1:11.25, 1.88 seconds faster than his st...Read More
Although Rail Trip has resumed training following a minor foot issue, he most likely won't make the $750,000 Woodward Stakes here on Sept. 4, trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. said Monday. "I don't see the Woodward, but miracles do happen," said Dutrow, who said he is really targeting the $750,000 Jockey C...Read More
The top four finishers from Saturday’s Grade 1, $500,000 Betfair TVG Alabama all appear to have emerged from the race in good order.   Alabama heroine Blind Luck was reported to be a “happy horse” by Archie Cross, assistant to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, who is also a co-owner of the filly wit...Read More
Blind Luck’s keen eye found the wire first again Saturday afternoon at Saratoga Race Course as she rallied from last to edge Havre de Grace by a neck and win the 130th running of the Grade 1, $500,000 Betfair TVG Alabama Stakes. Read More
It will be “East meets West” Saturday afternoon at Saratoga Race Course when Devil May Care and Blind Luck, the top two 3-year-old fillies in the country, face off in the 130th running of the Grade 1, $500,000 Betfair TVG Alabama at 1 ¼ miles.   Coming off a pair of Grade 1 victories in the Mo...Read More
  • medlocke · Save Zenyatta, because it's so hard to think of her as a filly or mare because of her behemoth size and ability. I really believe that Blind Luck is the best filly racing in America right now. As I said, besides Zenyatta. She's also a confirmed late closer who's closing kick has worked very effectively for her in 2010. Devil May Care is also an outstanding 3yr.old filly. But she likes to rate a bit closer to the lead than does Blind Luck. This should be quite an intriguing race. Whether or not Blind Luck's late closing kick can catch the front end speed of Devil May Care? One thing I am convinced of. Blind Luck or Devil May Care, both, could beat Rachel Alexandra based on the form that Rachel has raced with so far in 2010. But I like Blind Luck to just edge out Devil May Care in a very close finish. I think Blind Luck is an outstanding 3yr.old filly with a world of talent. Baring injury or a set-back of any kind? I really think the sky is the limit for this filly. JMO. · 642 days ago ·

The connections of Acting Happy have a saying – if a horse wins, and you didn’t bet it, you’re just “acting happy.”   “Marty McGee, who works for the Daily Racing Form, it’s something his father Jimmy used to say,” said Samantha Siegel, who, with father Mace, campaigns Acting Happy under the b...Read More
