  • ILuvTurfRacing · @driveon, I think you're right about that if both of them actually run in the G1 Golden Shaheen? The problem is, Black Caviar and Sepoy have gone out of their way to avoid racing each other in Australia, and I don't really understand why they have since they're the arguably the 2 best sprinters anywhere in the world right now. It's about a 99.9% certainty since he's owned by Sheikh Mohammed that Sepoy will be in Dubai, and it looks as if they're targeting the G1 Golden Shaheen with him. But if Black Caviar does indeed make the trek from Australia to Dubai in March? It won't surprise me at all if they avoid a showdown with Sepoy on a synthetic surface and go after the Al Quoz Sprint at 5f on turf. Since the Al Quoz Sprint has now been upgraded from G2 to G1 status. TJMO. · 6 days ago ·

  • HorseDynasty · Acclamation also won 2 Grade II races, while Havre De Grace won 2 Grade III races (both won 3 Grade I) and even tried different surfaces. The fact that at the time of writing this there uh s an article about HDG and others going through the NYRA to an award only confirms that the award process is too flawed and the award doesn't have the meaning I once thought it had. HDG is a great horse and very deserving, but was her campaign really so much better? · 16 days ago ·

I'm not trying to sell him to anyone. He has a different style than many turf horses and I hope in 2012 his success continues. A favorite of mine. · 18 days ago ·

  • LAZMANNICK · There seems to be an insinuation here that because the Dubbys of the world disparaged Acclamation's competition, that he had something to prove. He had NOTHING to prove. He easily handled Game On Dude in the Pacific Classic, the same Game On Dude that our newly crowned HOY couldn’t compete against. His only bad race was on a sloppy track on the bull ring at Charles Town, a track they should never have run him on. · 18 days ago ·

  • footlick · Mary Z.- I'm not sure he likes soft turf, which might be why they really haven't run him outside of Cal much. If the turf was to his liking, I certainly think he could have taken the Sword Dancer. The fact that he won the Pacific Classic, though has opened up even more options for him in California, so they may opt for a turf and synthetic year. · 29 days ago ·

  • LAZMANNICK · I wouldn’t hold a dismal finish in the Charlestown race against any horse. The track is essentially a bull ring, much like Fairplex, with very sharp turns. The track was also sloppy and sealed. It’s easy to see that he didn’t like that race based on how dismal he ran and yet he bounced back and won his next five in a row. As for the Kilroe Mile, Acclamation isn’t a miler and is zero for two in that particular race. He’s a true router who likes to set a controlled pace and when he can do this is very tough to beat. In fact the only way to beat him in a route when they are planning on taking him to the front is to challenge right from the beginning. · 29 days ago ·

P.S.: I had no idea I would come out so strongly for Acclamation for Older Male, but the more I looked at the statistics on this horse, and the lack of any real depth to any of the divisions, and exceptions are being made all over the place for ALL the categories, then it just seemed astonishing that no one was really on this guy's bandwagon! If you match him up against any of the others, you just have to notice, he stands out where there are really not too many standouts!

The Case for Acclamation for Older Male: There are always exceptions to nearly every rule...has to race on dirt, synthetic doesn't count, there's already a turf category, etc. If a case can be made for HdG for HOY, then nearly the same case can be made for Acclamation as Older Male, using similar “exceptions”. A Horse of the Year in the past has not always had to have raced outside its division in order to get the honor (Azeri, 2002). Also, Rachel proved you don't have to go the Classic distance, as even in her races against the males, she did not even challenge at the 1 1/4 mile distance. So, what do we have left. I certainly concur that Havre de Grace is a good horse to break precedent with for some of the traditional qualifications for HOY, as she has never won at the Classic distance either, though she has certainly proved she can go the distance, and her performance against the males deserves extra points there, as she won decisively, making it look more like a workout than a big time race. As to what to do about Acclamation, he -- at the very least -- deserves some major award, I don't care if it's Turf champ or Older Male, but he certainly MUST get an award. He shouldn't have to step outside his division either (although I would argue that he accomplished a lot in the PC) to legitimately deserve the Older Male award. It doesn’t say Older “Turf” Male, just Older Male. He certainly dominated in every way any horse needs to to deserve an Eclipse award! Some feel Cape Blanco's performance makes him the Turf champ, so that leaves Older Male for Acclamation. If a horse that has won 5 GRADED STAKES and 3 GRADE 1s doesn't get a major award, then shame on the voters! I don't care what he ran on, where, or how far (he did go the Classic distance in the Pacific Classic), so what is the big deal about it being on synthetic or the turf. Give this horse a championship. He deserves it. HdG has 5 graded stakes wins and 3 G1s, and she has never won at the Classic distance, and her showing in the BCC left a lot to be desired. So, if you can make an exception for HdG for the HOY, and if you want to make Cape Blanco the turf champ, then, hands down, Older Male belongs to Acclamation. Oh, and by the way, he HAS won at the Classic distance, in addition to his other accomplishments. Also, by the way, HdG and Acclamation are the ONLY horses in ANY DIVISION WITH A 5 GRADED STAKES AND 3 GRADE 1s RECORD!
