What the Horse Racing Nation is saying about Acaffella...

I thought it would be fun to go back and revisit my initial 2011 Kentucky Derby Top 10 list from last September to see how many of my early contenders are still in the chase.Below is my first Kentucky Derby Top 10 list posted on 9-22-10, followed by a where are they now report. 1. Stay Thirsty, 2. U...Read More

  • ArturoLaguna · Just curious what equine/handicapping credentials Mr. dubby30 possess to question the training methods of Bob Baffert . With 3 Kentucky Derby wins to his name and several other winners in the other legs of the triple, Baffert's training modus operandi seem to work. As Steve Haskins of The Bloodhorse wrote: "Leave the training to the trainers" · 814 days ago ·

  • 12 Clip · Astrology runs like a plodder. I don't even think he's worth talking about at the present moment. I don't think there is anybody in Steve Asmussen's stable that will be good enough to even make the Derby this season. Steve is a great trainer, and his horses are still getting used to their environment in So. Cal. As for Bob Baffert, it's a known fact that he likes to get the most out of his horses in the morning. Whether that's a waste of a horse is obviously up for debate. It's hard to knock Bafferts production in the 3-year-old series over the past two decades. · 814 days ago ·

The stakes winners Acaffella and Bench Points are sidelined with injuries and will be out of training until early 2011, their trainers said. Acaffella, who won the Angel Island Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on Sept. 11, underwent surgery on Monday after being diagnosed with a hairline fracture of a c...Read More
The performance of the week was turned in by Jaycito. The Mike Mitchell runner turned the tables on J P’s Gusto in the Norfolk despite racing wide throughout. The Victory Gallop colt figured to relish two turns and climbs the ladder in my rankings. To Honor and Serve turned in an impressive effort at...Read More
Acaffella's distaff family is filled with durable runners and listed stakes horses. His pedigree indicates that turf could be an option later in his career.
J.P’s Gusto, who has won four stakes in a row for owner Gem Stable and trainer David Hofmans, will make his first venture past seven furlongs in the Norfolk. The 2-year-old Successful Appeal colt and the Caller I.D. mare Call Her Magic will have six opponents in the 1 1/16 mile race over Cushion Tr...Read More
While many Europeans and locally based West Coast connections were happy to see Breeders’ Cup 2008 and 2009 in Los Angeles, many East Coast-based trainers were less than enthusiastic, because of the lack of a conventional dirt surface. Hall of Fame conditioner Nick Zito, for example, had no runners ...Read More
I am getting an early start in my first in a series of blogs devoted to 2011 Kentucky Derby hopefuls. There will be many twists and turns in the coming weeks and months, and the majority of horses on this initial list will almost certainly fall by the wayside. For my 2010 Derby list, I posted my Top...Read More
Stay Thirsty and Acaffella are two juvenile runners worth keeping an eye on. Read More
Acafella won the two-turn Angel Island stakes at Golden Gate by 6 lengths and got an 81 beyer. Going to the Norfolk next and possibly BC Juvenile. Jeff Siegel ranks him as his #1 Juvenile. I don't know if I would go that far, but could be a nice 2yo.
Ranking the four Breeders’ Cup juvenile divisions can be very risky at this time of the year because of the uncertainty surrounding the capability of many of the top-rated colts to project their sprint form around two turns.Read More
Trainer Richard Mandella said one reason he entered maiden Acaffella ($4.80) in the $52,150 Angel Island Stakes at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday was to make an assessment of where he might run him later in the year. After Acaffella's sensational six-length victory in the 1 1/16-mile stakes race for...Read More
