Just like many of us betting away each weekend or each day that ends in letter “y,” Gulfstream Park is taking a gamble by opening their wagering windows a month earlier than usual. • DeadHeat · Thirst has had the talent all along and had very good reasons for his subpar performances. As I said, being by Bernardini, who is by AP Indy I would expect him to get better as the year goes on and as the distances stretch. Now it is time to see what goes on in the Haskell. IMO the only horse that can win there and be of a threat to him in the Travers would be Ruler on Ice. · 191 days ago ·

  • MarkRodriquez · Brian a study was done and reported in the Racing Form. Dr. Parkin of univ. of Glasgow's study came up with these results: Horses break down on dirt at a rate of 2.14 times per 1,000 starts. Horses break down on synthetic tracks at a rate of 1.55 per 1,000 starts. This report was widely circulated and was ignored by the dirt-loving horse media. The study looked at 750,000 starts over the past few years. Mathematically, that's a 50% higher rate that dirt has. Something ponder, and I guess the dirt-loving horse media loves it's wallet more than the jocks and horses. · 203 days ago ·

  • MarkRodriquez · And Kris F. is correct about Del Mar's Polytrack. They had a rash of breakdowns last year and already have a training death this year. Just because they are artificial doesn't mean they are safe. I'll say it again, why not install Hollywood Park's Cushion track instead? Great for the horses and great for the bettors. · 203 days ago ·

  • cmymcadoo · When Can we expect Un-"B"-lievable Stakes from Belmont? Will it be run on Bastille Day? I think you should run the whole alphabet. It would be tremendous fun! You can post a poll for 2 days prior to the running and maybe give away random gifts (hats, t-shirts, etc.) to one of those who picked the winners. · 224 days ago ·

I just want to say a few more things about this his before he fades from folks memories due to being pensioned. This horse ran the third fastest 1.5 mile time ever at Belmont. Secretariat is first at 2:24, Easy Goer is second at 2:26 and A.P. Indy is third with a 2:26 2/5ths. Plus the way he won that race at Belmont he really had to show deep gamness down the strech and really willed himself to the win and that great time. He was a great horse on the track and even better in the barn.
A.P. Indy will go down as one of the greatest producers of all time. His sons are reproducing like their sire. His producing ability reminds me of the way Mr. Prospector and his sons impacted the sport.
A.P. Indy has been pensioned.
A.P. indy would have been a easy triple crown winner if he didnt have a foot problem the morning of the derby

  • Arbouwkamp · I am not slamming Arazi. He was a nice 2yo and miler but he was no AP Indy. I knew this BEFORE the Derby and even after Arazi's BC win(I was there). His win was over hyped IMO. The best 2yo performance I had ever seen was Landaluce's 21 length win not Arazi's BC. Heck, when Arazi was in the BC mile in 92, I was very hopeful he would win....But then there was Lure. · 344 days ago ·

  • footlick · Arbouwkamp- M. Boutin didn't want to ship for the BC, stating before they did it that Arazi had a hard European campaign and would be over the top. Mr Paulson was the one who decided to send him. If you thought AP Indy was a better two year old than Arazi, then more power to you. too bad he didn't ship to Longchamp, as well as Landaluce and prove it. If Arazi, winning in Europe and the US is over-rated, then they must be too because they didn't ship to Europe and emulate what he did. Arazi's whole 3 yr old year was mismanaged and a mess. Hold it against the horse if you want. Doesn't matter to me. · 344 days ago ·

Last weekend on the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) scene, the most impressive performance was the effort of the much-touted Brethren in the Sam F. Davis (gr. III, video below).
